Immunogenotyping using gene rearrangement analysis has emerged as a precise laboratory aid in the diagnosis and classification of malignant Iymphoid neoplasms. The lineage and clonality of the malignant Iymphoid neoplasms can be identified by the demonstration of rearrangements of antigen receptor genes of the immunoglobulin and T-cell receptor genes. The analysis of the gene rearrangements on the malignant Iymphoid neoplasms are also useful as a sensitive unique clonal markers to detect early recurrence in patients with malignant Iymphoid neoplasms after treatment. To analyze the sensitivity and specificity of gene rearrangements in the diagnosis of malignant Iymphoid neoplasms. 24 cases of malignat Iymphoma were examined by Southern blot hybridization using CTβ-T cell receptor β chain gene-DNA probe and JH-immunoglobulin heavy chain gene-DNA probe. The results of the immunogenotypings using Southern blot hybridization disclosed high correlation between the immunophenotyping using immunohistochemical stain with monoclonal antibodies (B-cell Iymphoma 84.2%. T-cell Iymphoma 75% ). The analysis of the gene rearrangement of the angioimmunoblastic lymphadenopathy(AILD) and unclassifiable Iymphoma using immunohistochemical stain could resolve the monoclonality and lineage . Rearranged bands to the CTβDNA probe were observed in one case out of 2 cases of AILD. One case of unclassifiable Iymphoma showed rearranged bands to the CTβ DNA probe. There were no rearrangements in reactive follicular Iymphoid hyperplasia and paracortical Iymphoid hyperplasia. In conclusion, DNA gene rearrangement study should be applied to differentiate the clonality and cell lineage in the malignant Iymphoma with indistinctive immunophenotype.
肝吸蟲症에 있어서 Praziquantel 投與 前後의 抗體價變動에 관한 硏究

The changes of antibody to adult worm of Clonorchis sinensis were studied using ELISA before and after treatment. Sera from 93 cases of confirmed human clonorchiasis were examined before treatment and at six months after treatment with a single dose of praziquantel 40 mg/kg bwt. Serum IgG level against C. sinensis (mean absorbance values at 488 nm) of 30 healthy controls from non-endemic area were 0.202±0.099, Sera of clonorchiasis patients showed significantly higher level of serum IgG (1.397±0.583) before treatment comparing with those of healthy controls. At after treatment the IgG levels were lower (0,858±0.408) than those of before treatment. At before treatment, the serum IgG level was highest in the group of very heavy infection (1.937±1.428), followed by heavy (1.860±0.297), moderate (1.491±0.579) and light (1.109±0.507) infection. The serum IgG level decreased significantly in heavy infection group (1.015±0.448) and in very heavy infection group (1.143 0.506) after treatment, then followed by moderate infection group (0.849±0.412) and light infection group (0.753±0.341). The egg discharge of thirty four out of ninty three clonorchiasis patients was negatively converted in stool examination and showed much decreased serum IgG level (0.718±0.356) as well as in the egg reducted fifty nine patients (0.943± 0.409). And the high antibody level groups showing the absorbance value higher than 1.50 (n=45) revealed more significant decrease of serum IgG level after treatment than the low antibody level group with less than 1.50. Conclusively, it was observed that serum specific IgG level was decreased at six months after treatment and the decreasing tendancy was more significant in higher E.P.G. group.

We have encountered a rare case of symmetrical peripheral gangrene complicating Escherichia coli sepsis in a 47-years-old male. He was successfully treated with antibiotics, anticoagulants, and vasodilator. To our knowledge, this is the first report on symmetrical peripheral gangrene complicating E. coli sepsis in Korea.

In this paper, we proposed the algorithm which extracts the contour lines in the contour map and reconstructs the broken ones. The contour lines is extracted by the algorithm using fairing method. Then the broken lines by symbols and the height number datum are reconstructed by using the Bezier polynomial function. In the reconstruction process, the control points which is searched by tracking the extracted contour lines are used. The reconstruction results is affected by the selection of the control points. The best selection is the choosing respectively the position of 6/10 between starting point and the cross point and between ending point and the cross one. The proposed algorithm has solved the problems with the conventional method by the division of the processing steps between the main contour lines and others. In the simulation results, the proposed method can be used in the digital elevation map generation. Also because the proposed one is consist of the automatic processing step, all the results can be obtained by the processing of computer.
The Effect of Dongchongxiacao (Paecilomyces japonica) on Ultraviolet B-Induced Skin Damages in Mouse

The effect of the fruiting bodies of Paecilomyces japonica (PJ), grown on silk-worm larvae on the changes of ultraviolet (UV) light B radiation-induced apoptotic sunburn cell (SBC) and epidermal ATPase-positive dendritic cell (DC) in SKH1-hr or ICR mouse were investigated. The mice were treated with UVB (200 mJ/㎠) and were sacrificed 24 hours later. PJ (50 ㎎/㎏ of body weight) or vehicle (saline) was given i.p. at 36 and 12 hours before irradiation, and 30 minutes after irradiation or PJ cream (0.2%) or cream base (vehicle) was topically treated at 24 hours and 15 minutes before irradiation, and immediately after irradiation. The skin of SKH1-hr mouse prepared from the back of untreated mice exhibited about 0.3 SBC/㎝ length of epidermis, and 24 hours after UV irradiation, the applied areas show an increased number of SBCs. But the frequency of UVB-induced SBC formation was reduced by intraperitoneal injection of PJ extract (p < 0.01). The numbers of DC in normal ICR mouse were 628.00± 51.56 or 663.20± 62.58 per ㎟ of ear epidermis. By 1 day after UVB treatment, the number of ATPase-positive cells/mrn? were decreased by 39.0% or 27.1% in i.p. or topical application group with vehicle. Treatment of PJ was associated with reductions of 30.8% in i.p, group (p < 0.05) and 8.4% in topical application group in the number of ATPase positive cells compared with the irradiation control group. The results presented herein that PJ administration could reduce the extent of skin damages produced by UVB.

<P>BACKGROUND: A number of distinct stress signaling pathways in myocardium cause cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. Class II histone deacetylases (HDACs) antagonize several stress-induced pathways and hypertrophy. However, cardiac hypertrophy induced by transgenic overexpression of the homeodomain only protein, HOP, can be prevented by the nonspecific HDAC inhibitors trichostatin A and valproic acid, suggesting that alternate targets that oppose class II HDAC function might exist in myocardium. We tested the effects of several HDAC inhibitors, including a class I HDAC-selective inhibitor, SK-7041, on cardiac hypertrophy induced by angiotensin II (Ang II) treatment or aortic banding (AB). METHODS AND RESULTS: Cardiac hypertrophy was induced by chronic infusion of Ang II or by AB in mice or rats and evaluated by determining the ratio of heart weight to body weight or to tibia length, cross-sectional area, or echocardiogram. Cardiac hypertrophy induced by Ang II or AB for 2 weeks was significantly reduced by simultaneous administration of trichostatin A, valproic acid, or SK-7041. Echocardiogram revealed that exaggerated left ventricular systolic dimensions were relieved by HDAC inhibitors. HDAC inhibitors partially reversed preestablished cardiac hypertrophy and improved survival of AB mice. The expressions of atrial natriuretic factor, alpha-tubulin, beta-myosin heavy chain, and interstitial fibrosis were reduced by HDAC inhibition. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that the predominant effect of HDAC inhibition, mainly mediated by class I HDACs, is to prevent cardiac hypertrophy in response to a broad range of agonist and stretch stimuli.</P>

Paddy and milled rice quality, milling characteristics, energy consumption of milling process were investigated using Dasanbyeo, Ansanbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo, Ilpumbyeo, and Donganbyeo varieties. Thousand grains weights of the varieties dried to 15% moisture content were 22.92-28.60g, with Dasanbyeo being the heaviest. Optimum clearance of rubber roller for obtaining maximum dehulling recovery was 30% of each rice variety thickness. At that time, perfect brown rice ratios of Dasanbyeo, Ansanbyeo, Hwaseongbyeo, Ilpumbyeo, and Donganbyeo were 95.24%, 98.86%, 95.97%, 97.75%, and 97.31%, respectively, and showed no significant differences among varieties. Ratios of removed rice bran after two times milling ranged 70.93-91.38%, with Dasanbyeo showing the highest ratio, and the average head rice ratio was 92.87%.

Cytogenetic and hematological analysis was performed in peripheral blood obtained from cattle bred in the high background radiation areas (HBRA, Goesan-gun, Cheongwon-gun,Boeun-gun) and a control area. The frequencies of gamma-ray induced micronuclei (MN) in the cytokinesis- blocked (CB) lymphocytes at several doses were measured in 3 cattle. An estimated dose of radiation was calculated by a best fitting linear-quadratic model based on the radiation-induced MN formation from the bovine lymphocytes exposed in vitro to radiation over the range from 0 mGy to 1,969 mGy. The measurements performed after irradiation showed dose-related increases in the MN frequency in each donors. The results were analyzed using a linear-quadratic model with a line of best fit of y = (0.0583 ± 0.0137)D + (0.0366 ± 0.0081)D² + (0.0093 ± 0.0015) (y = number of MN/CB cells and D = irradiation dose in Gy). MN rates per 1,000 CB lymphocytes of cattle from the Goesangun, Cheongwon-gun, Boeun-gun and the control area were 6.50 ± 2.72, 9.00 ± 4.50, 10.89 ± 4.23 and 9.60 ± 4.70, respectively. The MN frequencies of CB lymphocytes from cattle bred in 4 areas mean that the values are within the background variation in this experiment. The MN frequencies and hematological values were similar regardless of whether the cattle were bred in the HBRA or the control area.
