        Spawning Behavior, Egg Development, Larvae and Juvenile Morphology of Hyphessobrycon eques (Pisces: Characidae) Characidae Fishes

        Hyphessobrycon eques is a famous fish for ornamental fish market and aquarium. They are inhabit in regions of Amazon and Paraguay River basin. Serpae fishs were investigated 2–3 males are chased to female, and then males attempted to simulate the females abdomen. After fertilization, eggs were kept in incubators at 28oC. The fertilized eggs had adhesive and demesal characteristics and had a mean diameter of 0.92 ± 0.01 mm. Larvae hatched at 16 hrs post fertilization. The hatched larvae averaged 2.90 ± 0.16 mm in total length (LT). Complete yolk sac resorption and mouth opening occurred on the third day post hatching. At 45 days post hatching, the larvae were 12.5 ± 1.60 mm LT and had reached the juvenile stage.

        태권도 돌려차기 시 기술 수준에 따른 몸통, 골반, 지지 다리의 운동학적 변인 비교

        이 연구의 목적은 태권도 돌려차기 시 기술 수준에 따른 몸통, 골반, 지지 다리의 운동학적 변인을 비교 분석하는 데 있다. 본 연구를 위해 블랙 벨트 소지자로서 기술 수준에 따라 중급자10명, 상급자 9명이 실험에 참여하였다. 3차원 동작 분석 시스템을 사용하여 골반, 몸통, 지지다리의 방향각을 산출하였다. Start, Toeoff, MKF, Max, Impact, Min에서 그룹 간의 평균 방향각을 비교하기 위하여 독립표본 t-검정을 하였다. MKF, Impact, Min에서 골반의 좌측 기울어짐 각도가 그룹 간의 유의한 차이가 나타났다. Start와 Max에서 지지 다리의 엉덩관절 굴곡 각도와 MKF에서 지지 다리의 엉덩관절 외전 각도 사이에 유의한 차이가 있었다. 이상의 결과를 볼 때, 상급자들은 푸쉬단계에서 엉덩관절의 굴곡 각도가 증가 되었고, MKF에서는 외전 각도가 감소하였다. 또한, 스트라이크 단계에서 골반의 좌측 기울어짐 각도는 감소하였다. The study purpose was to investigate skill level differences on trunk, pelvis, and supporting leg kinematics in a Taekwondo roundhouse kick. 10 intermediate and nine expert male black-belt holders executed roundhouse kicks at a target. Orientation angles of the pelvis, trunk, and supporting -thigh, -shank, and -foot were obtained through a three-dimensional video motion analysis. Orientation angles at Start, Toeoff, Maximum Knee Flexion(MKF), Impact, Maximum angle(Max), and Minimum angle(Min) were compared between groups using independent t-tests(p<.05). Significant differences between groups were found in the pelvis left lateral tilted position at MKF, Impact, and Min; significant differences were also found in the supporting hip joint flexed position at Start and Max, and abducted position at MKF. It was concluded that higher performers increased the hip joint flexion angle in the Push phase, decreased abduction angle at MKF, and decreased the pelvis left tilted angle in the Strike phase.

        Gryllus bimaculatus extract protects against palmitate‑induced β‑cell death by inhibiting ceramide synthesis

        Type I diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune disease characterized by the destruction of β-cells, leading to severe insulin deficiency. Environmental factors and genetic predisposition are implicated in β-cell destruction, which is the final step in a cascade of complex events. Possible triggers of β-cell destruction are activation of Fas, activation of perforin, increased generation of reactive oxygen species, increased production of inflammatory cytokines, and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. In this study, we examined whether Gryllus bimaculatus (GB) extract could prevent palmitate-induced β-cell apoptosis. Exposure to GB extract prevented palmitate-induced death of MIN6 cells, a mouse pancreatic β-cell line. Palmitate increased total ceramide levels with the elevation of ceramide synthase (CerS)1, CerS4, and CerS6 expressions. Treatment with GB extract decreased the levels and expressions of ceramides related to insulin resistance. CerS4 and CerS6 overexpression, but not CerS1 overexpression, increased palmitate-induced MIN6 cell death by increasing ceramide synthesis. Oppositely, inhibition of ceramide synthesis by fumonisin B1 treatment partially recovered palmitate-induced MIN6 cell death. Furthermore, GB extract reduced ER stress (phosphorylation of PERK and eIF2α), NF-κB–iNOS signaling, and the phosphorylation of MAP kinase (JNK, p38). GB extract reduced pro-apoptotic Bax protein expression but increased anti-apoptotic Bcl2 expression. In addition, CerS4 and CerS6 overexpression aggravated impairment of insulin secretion by palmitate, but GB extract recovered it. In conclusion, GB could be a functional food that improves palmitate-induced β-cell death and insulin secretion.

        This study is to provide a evaluation method for the penetration depth of emulsified refined bio diesel(ERBD)applied to a surface of the concrete by using water absorption capability of the concrete. The concrete applied with ERBD was immersed at water for 1 min., 5min., and 10 min. and then was checked the brightness with elapse of time. Test results indicated that there was clear difference between ERBD part and non ERBD part in concrete specimen after measuring the brightness until 120min.

        Backgrounds: One of the main problems conditioning the outcome of islet transplantation is the ability to separate a sufficient number of viable islets with preserved function. Islet purification is critically affected by all of the isolation stages. Thus, it is necessary to set up the standard isolation method that islets are separate well from acinar without compromising islet yield and viability. Methods: Twenty three adult mongrel dogs were used for the experiment of total pancreatectomy with islet isolation. The islets were properly isolated by a modified Recordi method. The obtained islets were further purified by centrifugation on discontinuous gradients using cell separation system (Model 2991, Cobe, Lakewood Colo). We evaluated islet number (islet equivalent number, 150 um equivalents/kg of recipient body weight, IEq/kg), purity, cell volume, viabilty, recovery rate, and comparison of outcome according to the isolation conditions. Results: 1) The mean of islet numbers before purification were 13543±9431Eq/kg, digestion times were 13.8±2.6 min., digestion temperature was 37.4±0.2℃, purity was 59.7?.0%, viability was 90.0±2.1%, cell volume was 4.7±1.1 mL, islet number after purification were 4064±361 IEq/kg, and recovery rate was 29±2.9%. 2) Isolated islet numbers were different according to the degree of pancreas distension with collagenase, digestion temperature, and digestion time. 3) The best conditions for islet isolation were above 37.5℃ in temperature at recirculation of collagenase, within 12 min in digestion time and well distended pancreas with collagenase. 4) According to multiple regression adjusted by variable factors, the degree of pancreas distension with collagenase and digestion time were independently associated factors for successful islet isolation. Conclusions: In this study, we concluded that the degree of pancreas distension with collagenase and digestion time were independent factors for successful islet isolation and the best conditions for islet isolation were above 37.5℃ in temperature at recirculation of collagenase, within 12 min in digestion time and well distended pancreas with collagenase.

        Renal cell carcinoma can presents wide range of signs and symptoms, and commonly associated with paraneoplastic syndrome. Paraneoplastic manifestations are present in up to 20% of patients with renal cell carcinoma. There is convincing evidence that renal cell carcinoma tumor cells elaborate proteins that serve as mediators of endocrine (ex ; ectopic production of parathyroid hormone-related protein or erythropoietin) as well as nonendocrine paraneoplastic syndromes. A paraneoplastic syndrome may be the various clinical presentation of renal cell carcinoma in a significant number of patients, therefore mimicked other general disease. We report a case of renal cell carcinoma associated with paraneoplastic syndrome mimicking pyelonephritis.

        The purpose of this study is to analyze the visual variation of skilled and unskilled people, and to obtain data necessary for skill improvement of effective handball penalty throw. An eye tracker was used to collect eye movements, concentration points, directions, and paths during penalty throws. The results are as follows: 1) For skilled players, the place where they threw and the place where their eyes were focused matched. 2) There is no difference in the presence or absence of eye contact with the goalkeeper.

        Gelidium amansii Extract, a Potent α-glucosidase and α-amylase Inhibitor, Alleviates Postprandial Hyperglycemia in Diabetic Mice

        우뭇가사리(Gelidium amansi)는 홍조류로서 우뭇가사리과(Gelidiaceae)에 속한다. 현재까지 우뭇가사리의 항산화 및 항비만 효과 등의 기능들이 연구되었으나 식후 혈당 수치에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 Gelidium amansii extract (GAE)가 탄수화물 가수분해 효소(α-glucosidase, α-amylase)에 미치는 억제 효과 및 streptozotocin (STZ)으로 유도된 당뇨병 마우스의 식후고혈당에 미치는 완화효과를 조사하였다. 정상군과 STZ으로 유도된 당뇨병 마우스에 수용성 전분(2 g/kg body weight)을 경구투여한 후 GAE (300 mg/kg body weight) 또는 acarbose (100 mg/kg body weight)를 단독 또는 함께 투여하였다. 혈당은 꼬리채혈을 통해 0, 30, 60, 120분 간격으로 측정하였다. α-glucosidase와 α-amylase에 대한 GAE의 IC50 값은 각각 0.099±0.009 mg/ml와 0.178±0.038 mg/ml의 결과값을 나타내어, 양성대조군인 acarbose보다 더 효과적이었다. STZ으로 유발된 당뇨병 마우스의 식후 혈당 수치는 대조군에 비해 GAE 투여 시 유의적으로 더 낮았다(p<0.05). 또한 GAE 투여는 당뇨병 마우스에서 포도당 반응에 대한 곡선하면적 감소와 관련이 있었다(p<0.05). 이러한 결과는 GAE가 α-glucosidase, α-amylas와 같은 탄수화물 가수분해 효소를 억제함으로써 식후 고혈당을 완화시키는 유용한 천연기능성 식품이 될 것으로 사료된다. Gelidium amansii shows antioxidant and anti-obesity effects; however, the effect on postprandial blood glucose levels is not known. The objective of the present study was to investigate the inhibitory effect of Gelidium amansii extract (GAE) on carbohydrate-digesting enzymes and its ability to alleviate postprandial hyperglycemia in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice. Gelidium amansii was extracted with 80% ethanol and concentrated for use in this study. The α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibition assays were performed using the colorimetric method. ICR normal and STZ-induced diabetic mice were orally administered GAE (300 mg/kg body weight) or acarbose (100 mg/kg body weight) alone or soluble starch (2 g/kg body weight). Blood samples were taken from the tail vein at 0, 30, 60 and 120 min. Our results indicated that GAE markedly inhibited α-glucosidase and α-amylase activities with IC50 values of 0.099±0.009 mg/ml and 0.178±0.038 mg/ml, respectively, and was a more effective inhibitor than acarbose, the positive control. Further, the postprandial blood glucose levels of STZ-induced diabetic mice in the GAE-administered group were significantly lower than those of control group mice (p<0.05). Moreover, the area under the curves (AUC) significantly decreased with GAE administration in STZ-induced diabetic mice (p<0.05). These results indicate that GAE may be effective in decreasing postprandial blood glucose levels by inhibiting carbohydrate-digesting enzymes such as α-amylase and α-glucosidase. Therefore, GAE could be used as a potential functional food for alleviating postprandial hyperglycemia.
