Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1997. 99 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 45(45.5%) were PPNG. Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

최인호 소설에 나타난 종교적 세계관과 성찰의 서사

본고에서는 최인호의 작가 의식을 지배하고 있는 종교적 세계관을 통해 1970~80년대의 시대에 대한 성찰을 시도하고자 했다. 먼저 ‘실존 탐구와 기독교적 사유’에서는 기독교의 윤리의식과 사상이 어떻게 작품의 주제와 연결되고 있으며, 주인물의 내적 변화에 관여하는지를 알 수 있다. 다음으로 ‘구도적 열망과 실천 자세의 모색’에서는 『길 없는 길』의 ‘경허’를 통한 참된 ‘나’와 중생을 위한 구체적인 ‘실천’에 관한 물음을 던진다. 이를 통해 현실을 직시하고 비판적으로 대처하는 실천적인 지식인의 모습을 강조한다. 이러한 고찰은 당대 사회의 부조리를 비판하고 종교적 정신으로 대안을 찾으려는 공통점이 있다. 여기에는 현실적 삶의 제한성을 극복한 본질적 삶에 대한 내적인 욕구가 반영되어 있다. 또한 개인의 구제와 사회의 구제는 불가분의 관계에 놓여 있다는 것을 다시 한 번 확인하게 한다. 이와 같이 최인호의 소설에 나타난 종교적 세계관을 통해 당대의 시대를 성찰해 보는 것은, 자본주의 근대화의 극복과 당대 시대에 대한 최인호의 문학적 고민을 알 수 있게 한다. 더 나아가 최인호의 문학세계를 폭넓게 논의해 보는 계기를 준다. This is an article about the religious outlook and mind of an author, Choi, In-ho who is one of famous writers in the 70-80's in Korea. Some of his books, The Urban Hunter and A windmill in my heart are stories that are based on an Christian recognition and ontological looking. One of his book, The Pathless Way, is a story that is based on a Buddhist idea and view. These books are reflected different religious agenda, especially Catholic or Buddhism but a similar theme what is a way of researching oneself of leading characters desperately. Among of these are stories about serious social problems. These are caused a serious capitalism and an brutal industrialism in Korea at that time. The observation of Choi, In-ho through his books proposes to solve problems of social absurdities with religious spirits. As a result, books of Choi In-ho reflect on the contemporary era through the religious world view. And then he tries to see the essence and the worth of the human-life in the modernization of capitalism society in his books. His own literary thinking is about the need of religious pure mind. He focuses Catholic ideology as well as Buddhist idea. These kind of literary thinking make his literary world view put on his books. His novels are the so-called process of finding a way. These novels are processes of the realization of himself as well as readers in social absurdities. This article will be an opportunity to discuss about novels of Choi In-ho actively.

Natural products used as a chemical library for protein–protein interaction targeted drug discovery

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Protein–protein interactions (PPIs), which are essential for cellular processes, have been recognized as attractive therapeutic targets. Therefore, the construction of a PPI-focused chemical library is an inevitable necessity for future drug discovery. Natural products have been used as traditional medicines to treat human diseases for millennia; in addition, their molecular scaffolds have been used in diverse approved drugs and drug candidates. The recent discovery of the ability of natural products to inhibit PPIs led us to use natural products as a chemical library for PPI-targeted drug discovery. In this study, we collected natural products (NPDB) from non-commercial and in-house databases to analyze their similarities to small-molecule PPI inhibitors (iPPIs) and FDA-approved drugs by using eight molecular descriptors. Then, we evaluated the distribution of NPDB and iPPIs in the chemical space, represented by the molecular fingerprint and molecular scaffolds, to identify the promising scaffolds, which could interfere with PPIs. To investigate the ability of natural products to inhibit PPI targets, molecular docking was used. Then, we predicted a set of high-potency natural products by using the iPPI-likeness score based on a docking score-weighted model. These selected natural products showed high binding affinities to the PPI target, namely XIAP, which were validated in an <I>in vitro</I> experiment. In addition, the natural products with novel scaffolds might provide a promising starting point for further medicinal chemistry developments. In order to analyze and compare the desulfurization characteristics of five different kinds of domestic limestons, a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) was used in this study. Calcium carbonate contents of the domestic limestone varied from 91 to 96 wt%. Experimental temperature and sulfur dioxide concentration of 850 ℃ and 2,750 ppm, respectively were selected to simulate commercial operation conditions. In this study, the calcination and desulfurization reaction of limestones were simultaneously occurred and investigated to simulate in-situ desulfurization reaction in commercial circulating fluidized bed combustors. In addition, desulfurization reactivities of limes having the average particle sizes of 37.5, 90.5, 159, 356 and 750 μm were investigated. Desulfurization reactivities via simultaneous calcination and desulfurization reactions were 5-20% lower than those of using general desulfurization reactions.

Power Distance, Collectivism and Corruption: An Analysis Using Hofstede’s Cultural Dimensions Index and Corruption Perception Index

Purpose – Among the many factors affecting corruption, cultural factors cannot be overlooked. This study examines if there is any relationship between culture and corruption. For this purpose, Hofstede’s cultural dimension index and the Corruption Perception Index (CPI) for 116 countries were used. Design/Methodology/Approach – This study used secondary data published by two institutions: Hofstede Insights and Transparency International. First, the latest Power Distance Index (PDI) and Individualism Index (IDV) of 116 countries were obtained from Hofstede Insights. Second, the latest 2021 CPI of 116 countries was gained from Transparency International. Two hypotheses were developed. To examine the relationship between the variables, a correlation analysis was adopted. Findings – According to the analysis results, hypothesis 1 received statistical support indicating more corruption tends to occur in countries with high power distance culture. Hypothesis 2 is also accepted that more corruption occurs in countries with a strong collectivism culture. Research Implications – The result of this study implies that centralization of power into the higher echelons may hinder effective communication within organization, and often leads to strategic decision-making errors and even corruption. In addition, excessive in-group collectivism is an obstacle to monitoring and blocking internally generated corruption and sometimes demands individual sacrifice.

생쥐 위장관의 Interstitial cells of Cajal(ICC)에 대한 면역조직화학적 연구

Background and Objectives : Interstitial cells of Cajal(ICC) are the pacemakers in gastrointestinal tract that modulates gastrointestinal motiliey and these cells also transmit neural input from enteric nerves to smooth muscles. Recent work on tissues from patients with motility disorders that suggest that loss or defect in ICC could be related to pathophysiology in human and animal models. Immunolabelling of ICC in intestinal wall is recently developed by using specific marker, anti-c-kit antibody. Immunohistochemistry was done for ICC network in attempt to provide a morphological basis for the mechanism regulating gastrointestinal motility Methods : Cryosection was done, and whole-mount preparations of mouse stomach, gastrointestinal tract were immunolabelled using the anti-c-Kit. Immunolabelled ICC networks were observed under a confocal laser scanning microscopy. Results : According to three dimensional reconstruction study, we found that the c-Kit-positive celluar networks were widely distributed in the gastrointestinal muscle (1) circular muscle layer(IC-IM), (2) myenteric plexus(IC-MY), (3) deep muscular plexus(IC-DMP) in ileum, (4) submucosal plexus(IC-SMP) and longitudinal muscle layer(IC-LM) in colon. Conclusion : The characteristic profiles of ICC celluar networks provide a morphological basis upon the mechanism regulating gastrointestinal motility. Additional studies for the enteric nerves-ICC interaction are need to evaluate the detailed roles of Icc in gastrointestinal tract.

Hypoparathyroidism is usually the result of an inadvertent surgical removal of all the parathyroid glands, In some instances, not all the tissues are removed, but the remainder undergoes vascular supply compromise secondary to the fibrotic changes in the neck after surgery, Previously, the surgery for hyperthyroidism was the most frequent cause of acquired hypoparathyroidism. Idiopathic hypoparathyroidism is a relatively rare disease that is characterized by hypocalcemia and hyperphosphatemia due to a parathyroid hormone deficiency of an unknown cause, It usually develops at a young age, and shows various clinical symptoms and signs accompanied with hypocalcemia. In addition, it is rarely associated with polyglandular autoimmune syndrome during the follow-up. Hypocalcemia and idiopathic hypoparathyroidism associated with labor and lactation are rarely reported condition previously. We here describe a case of a woman in whom the symptomatic severe hypocalcemia appeared after her delivery. We reviewed all the previously reported cases and suggest a possible physiological explanation for the association between pregnancy, lactation, and the appearance of symptomatic hypocalcemia.

신고리 지역 기상관측을 통한 계절별 대기안정도 특성분석

In this study, we analyzed the characteristics of atmospheric stability to investigate local environment change at an atomic power plant in Gori region. The used data was obtained from field observation of major meteorological variables such as wind direction and speed, air temperature, relative humidity, and solar radiation using AWS (Automatic Weather System) in Gori region from February to September in 2003. As a result, when strong northerly winds (more than 4~6 m/s) and weak northwesterly winds (2~3m/s) blow, atmospheric stability was neutral and stable from winter to spring, respectively. Atmospheric stability (neutral) in summer was similar to that in two other seasons (winter and spring), but it was stable for weak southwesterly winds (2~3 m/s). Finally, atmospheric stability was neutral for strong winds (over 4~6 m/s) in fall without respect to wind direction, while that was stable for very weak winds (less than 2 m/s).

시스템 다이내믹스를 이용한 간호단위별 간호인력 산정에 관한 연구

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to forecast manpower by building the nursing manpower-staffing model(surgical-medical nursing unite). Method: The system dynamics approach was adapted to build a simulation model for calculating medical-surgical nursing manpower-staffing. The model was built up on Venism 5.0b DSS. Result: The results in the basic circumstance are in following. The level of nursing service quality, patientsatisfaction, and nurse job satisfaction maintains higher at medical-surgical nursing unit of the tertiary hospitals with the ratio of bed to nurse 2.5:1-3.0:1 than at any other situations. The level of nursing service quality, patient satisfaction, and nurse job satisfaction maintains higher at madical nursing unit of the secontary hospotals with the ratio of bed to nurse 3.0:1 and at surgical nursing unit of the secondary hospitals with the ratio of bed to nurse 3.0:1-3.5:1 than at any other situations in the fundamental from. The results in the simulation circumstance are in following, As author raises the operating rate of bed into 95-100%, and cut skilled nursing staff down, the level of nursing-service quality, patient satisfaction, and nurse job satisfaction drops slightly. Conclusion: In terms of economic efficiency on tertiary hospotals, the ratio of bed to nurse for the best reasonable medical-surgical nursing manpower-staffing is 3.0:1. In terms of economic efficiency on secondary hospitals, the ratio of bed to nurse for the best reasonable medical nursing manpower-staffing is 3.0:1 and surgical nursing manpower-staffing is 3.5:1

ATM망에서 비실시간 서비스를 위한 효율적 셀 제어 기법

The Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) service has been designed to accomodate non-real-time applications, such as TCP/IP based traffic in ATM networks. The GFR service not only guarantees a minimum throughput at the frame level, but also supports a fair share of available resources. In this paper, we propose a cell control algorithm which can improve the fairness and the throughput through the traffic control in GFR service. For the evaluation of a proposed scheme, we compare the proposed scheme with the existing scheme in the fairness and the throughput. Simulation results that the proposed scheme can improve the fairness and throughput than the existing scheme.
