        Aerobic exercise training enhances cell proliferation and reduces IL-2 and IL-6 cytokine production in spleen of high fat diet-induced obese mice

        This study investigated the effect of aerobic exercise training on immune cell proliferation and inflammatory cytokine production in the spleen of high fat diet-induced obese mice. C57B1J6 male mice (4 weeks aged. n20) were fed a high fat diet (45% fat) for 5 weeks so that obesity was led intentionally. Then, these obese mice were divided into 2 groups: control group (CON. n10) or exercise group (EXE, n=l0). EXE performed treadmill running for 30-60 min/day at 10-22 m/min, 0% grade, five times per week for 8 weeks. After 13 weeks, all the splenocyte was collected and Con A (Concanvalin A 10 ㎍/ml) was used to stimulate the cell proliferation. MTS and BIOPLEX assay were used for cell proliferation and cytokine production. Independent t-test was used and a p-value under 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. In the results, body weight, IL-2 and IL-6 production were significantly reduced and Splenocyte proliferation was significantly increased after 8 weeks of exercise training. These findings suggest that aerobic exercise training has a positive effect for improving the obese-induced immune dysfunction.

      • 컴퓨터 赤外線 全身體熱撮影과 FNT을 통해 살펴본 Bell's palsy에 대한 침치료의 臨床的 考察

        Object : This study is designed to evaluate the clinical therapy of acupuncture by the data of DITI(Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging) and FNT(Facial Nerve stimulation Test) examination and the changes of clinical symptoms after the therapy of acupuncture in the patients with Bell's palsy. Contents : The conservative therapy with acupuncture was performed during 1-8weeks. The acupuncture points of S4, S6, G14, S2, BL2, SI18, TE23, LI4 and S36 were used. In the pre- and post therapy, DITI examinations was performed in patients who had Bell's palsy and were treated by acupuncture, and then tried to correlate the results of clinical symptoms with the difference of thermographic findings. And FNT examinations were performed in the same patients above, and then tried to correlate the results of clinical symptoms with the difference of nerve response findings. Setting : The standard routine thermographic examination with thermography (DITI) and nerve response with FNT(Facial Nerve Stimulation Test) were performed in the 16 patients with Bell's palsy at pre- and post acupuncture. Patients : Thermographic imaging of 16cases was analyzed. They had diagnosed Bell's palsy. They were treated by acupuncture and moxibustion therapy in Wonkwang Oriental Hospital from Jauary, 1999 to February, 2000. Results : 1) The results of treatment showes that 56.25% of patients achieved clinical excellent recovery and 31.25% achieved good recovery. After compairing the DITI results before and after treatment, we found 43.75% of patients achieved excellent recovery and 43.75% achieved good recovery. 2) After compairing the FNT results before and after treatment, we found 25% of patients achieved excellent recovery and 56.25% achieved good recovery. Conclusion : 1) Acupuncture showed good results over 87.5% in clinical evaluation and 87.5% in DITI. Thermographic examination showes terapeutic effect of acupuncture treatment. 2) Acupuncture showed good results over 87.5% in clinical evaluation and 81.25% in FNT. FNT showes nerve response recovery effect of acupuncture treatment.

      • Spontaneous Additive Nanopatterning from Solution Route Using Selective Wetting

        <P>Nanopatterns of functional materials have successfully led innovations in a wide range of fields, but further exploration of their full potential has often been limited because of complex and cost-inefficient patterning processes. We here propose an additive nanopatterning process of functional materials from solution route using selective wetting phenomenon. The proposed process can produce nanopatterns as narrow as 150 nm with high yield over large area at ultrahigh process speed, that is, the speed of solution dragging, of up to ca. 4.6 m·min<SUP>-1</SUP>. The process is highly versatile that it can utilize a wide range of solution materials, control vertical structures including pattern thickness and multistacks, and produce nanopatterns on various substrates with emerging form factors such as foldability and disposability. The solution patterning in nanoscale by selective wetting is enabled by corresponding surface energy patterns in high contrast that are achieved by one-step imprinting onto hydrophobic/hydrophilic bilayers. The mechanisms and control parameters for the solution patterning are revealed by fluid-dynamic simulation. With the aforementioned advantages, we demonstrate 25 400 pixel-per-inch light-emitting pixel arrays and a plasmonic color filter of 10 cm × 10 cm area on a plastic substrate as potential applications.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

        Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

        복어중독에 의한 가사 상태에서 소생한 1예

        Tetrodotoxin is a neurotoxin produced by about 90 species of puffer fish and causes paralysis of central nervous system and peripheral nerves by blocking the movement of all monovalent cation. Ingestion of tetrodotoxin produces clinical manifestations such as paresthesias(within 10-45 min), vomiting, lightheadedness, salivation, muscle twitching, dysphagia, difficulty in speaking, convulsion and death that expressed by cardiopulmonary arrest with loss of brain stem reflex sometimes. Tetrodotoxin prevents or delays ischemia induced neuronal death by way of following 3 mechanisms. Firstly, it reduces the energy demand of the brain tissues. Secondly, it delays or even prevents anoxic depolarization. Finally, it deminishes ischemia induced cell swelling and cerebral edema. We report a case of puffer fish poisoning which presented with cardiopulmonary arrest and loss of brain stem reflex, but completely recovered by aggressive cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

        Analysis of Sacrococcygeal Morphology in Koreans Using Computed Tomography

        Background: The sacrococcygeal morphology of Arabs and Europeans has been studied using computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging to determine the cause of coccydynia. Studies have suggested differences in sacrococcygeal morphology among ethnic groups. However, there are no data on the sacrococcygeal anatomy of Koreans. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 606 pelvic CT scans that were taken at Cheju Halla General Hospital between 2008 and 2014. Fractures of the sacrum or coccyx were excluded. Differences in the sacrococcygeal morphology among age groups stratified by decade of life and between genders were analyzed using sagittal plane pelvic CT scans. The morphological parameters studied were the sacral and coccygeal curved indexes, sacrococcygeal angle, intercoccygeal angle, coccygeal type, coccygeal segmental number, and sacrococcygeal fusion. Results: The average sacral and coccygeal curved indexes were 6.15 and 7.41, respectively. The average sacrococcygeal and intercoccygeal angles were 110° and 49°, respectively. Type II coccyx was most common, and the rate of sacrococcygeal fusion was 34%. There was a moderate positive correlation between age and the sacral curved index (r = 0.493, p = 0.000) and a weak negative correlation between age and the coccyx curved index (r = –0.257, p = 0.000). There was a weak negative correlation between age and the intercoccygeal angle (r = –0.187, p = 0.000). The average intercoccygeal angle in males and females was 53.9° and 44.7°, respectively. Conclusions: The sacrum tended to be more curved and the coccyx straighter with age. The coccyx was straighter in females than males. Knowledge of the sacrococcygeal anatomy of Koreans will promote better understanding of anatomical differences among ethnicities and future studies on coccydynia.

        수직 연속주조 공정으로 제조된 Al-8Zn-2Mg-2Cu 빌렛의 표면 결함 형성에 미치는 주조 온도와 주조 속도의 영향

        7000계 알루미늄 합금은 다른 Al 합금에 비해 강도가 우수하여 주목을 받고있으며, 7000계 알루미늄 빌렛은 일반적으로 Direct-Chill (DC) 주조 공정을 통해 제조된다. DC 주조 공정으로 제조된 알루미늄 빌렛의 표면 결함은 주로 Exudation과 Meniscus freezing 현상과 관련이 있으며, 이는 합금 성분, 주조 속도 및 주조 온도의 영향을 받는다. 특히, 7000계 알루미늄 합금은 응고 과정에서 응고 온도 범위가 넓어 주조 결함이 발생하기 쉽다. 본 연구에서는 DC 주조 공정에 의해 제조된 Al-8Zn-2Mg-2Cu 합금 빌렛에 대한 표면 결함 변화에 대하여 조사하였다. 빌렛의 표면은 "Wavy" 또는 "Dot" 표면으로 관찰되었다. Wavy 표면은 낮은 주조 속도(200mm/min)와 온도(655℃)에서 Meniscus freezing 현상에 의해 형성되었으며, Concave 영역에서 Meniscus freezing 현상으로 인한 조성작 과냉으로 인해 미세한 수지상 조직이 관찰되었다. 반면에, 주조 온도가 높은 조건(675℃)에서는 Dot 표면이 기공 형성에 의해 형성되었으며, 높은 주조 속도(230mm/min)에서 제조된 Dot 표면을 갖는 빌렛에서는 높은 금속 수두압에 의해 Exudation 층이 형성되었다. Exudation 층의 Dot 영역과 Smooth 영역은 각각 미세한 수지상 형태와 주상정 형태의 조직이 관찰되었으며 이는 Dot 영역에서 가스 기공의 형성에 의한 결과이다. 7000-series aluminum alloys are noted for their superior strength compared with other Al alloys, and their billets are generally fabricated by direct-chill (DC) casting. Surface defects in a DC-cast aluminum billet are mainly related to exudation and the meniscus freezing phenomenon, which are influenced by alloy compositions, casting speed, and casting temperature. 7000-series aluminum alloys have a wide freezing range during solidification, which makes it easy for casting defects to occur. In this study, we investigated surface defect evolution in casting billets of Al-8Zn-2Mg-2Cu alloy fabricated by a DC casting process. The billets showed “wavy” or “dotted” surfaces. The wavy surface was formed by meniscus freezing at a lower casting speed (200 mm/min) and temperature (655 ℃). In the wavy surface, refined dendritic cells were observed in a concave region due to the constitutional supercooling caused by meniscus freezing. Meanwhile, at a higher casting temperature (675 ℃), the dotted surface was formed by pore formation. In the dotted surfaces in the billet formed at a high casting speed (230 mm/min), an exudation layer was formed by the high metallostatic head pressure. The dotted region and the smooth region had a refined dendritic morphology and a columnar morphology at the exudation layer, respectively. This is attributed to the formation of gas pores in the dotted region.

        선천성 안면기형을 동반한 증후군 환자의 악교정 수술

        There are various factors that have to be considered in orthognathic surgery for the syndromic patients with congenital facial deformities. The factors such as the shape of the jaws, pattern of mouth opening, masticatory muscle tension, degree of facial asymmetry, reconstruction of deformities and patient’s cooperation are required to be taken into consideration more than a routine treatment plan. For this reason, much more complex process, additional surgeries, and more precise and careful surgical planning are needed than general orthognathic surgery. Nearly all preparation procedures have been digitalized in recent orthognathic surgery cases. Computer-aided and 3D orthognathic surgery simulations allow for more precise model surgeries for syndromic patients with congenital facial deformities. The aim of this study is to examine the effective treatment method for syndromic patients with congenital facial deformities and discuss improvement of orthognathic surgery.
