This paper presents the optimal treatment procedure and rational of combined wastewater with municipal, night soil, and animal waste, considering influent organic concentration of combined wastewater, sewer line system, and operating efficiency. Results indicate that aerobic digestion of night soil is recommended before combining with wastewater rather than pretreatment of night soil, even though the oxidation ditch operates in an extended aeration mode with long detention and solids retention times. Much attentions should be paid to the corrosive effects of contaminants from animal waste and night soil on the following treatment facilities. It is also expected that discharge standards of nitrogen and phosphorus will be strictly enforced in near future.

제주산 금귤을 소재로 한 금귤 젤리화 식품과 금귤-벌꿀절임을 제조하고, 이들의 물성, 기호성, 저장성 등에 관한 특성을 검토하였다. 젤라틴 2.5%와 물엿을 사용한 젤리화 금귤은 硬度가 195g-force이며, 탄성은 114%로서 後食用 製品으로 알맞은 것으로 평가되었다. 금귤-벌꿀절임은 20% 이내의 벌꿀을 함유한 제품이 官能評價에 좋은 結果를 얻었다. 加熱處理하여 밀봉한 製品은 32℃˚에서 20일간 貯藏하였을 경우에도 전혀 微生物 검출이 되지 않았으나, 加熱處理하지 않은 製品의 경우 製造工程 등에서 오는 汚染으로 인하여 벌꿀함유량에 관계없이 일부 微生物 增殖이 일어나 저장 및 유통중에 變質이 우려된다. In order to utilize Kumquats, a Fortunella variety produced in Cheju island, sensory evaluation and texture parameter of Kumquats processed foods were invesigated. Hardness and springiness of Kumquats jelly made with addition of 2.5% gelatin and maltose syrup was 195 g-force and 114% respectively, and the commodity was suitable for a dessert food in sensory evaluation. Kumquats slice contained below 20% honey was also evaluated as good for a tea of dessert food. Honey-Kumquats slice with heat treatment was safe for microbial growth during storge for 20 days at 32℃, but molds, bacteria and yeasts contaminated during processing were grown on Kumquats-honey commodities without heat treatment.

Cell growth and pigment productivity of Monascus anka KCCM 11832 and Monascus sp. has isolated from the Korean Maeju(soybean koji) were determined for effect of culture medium composition and incubation conditions. Increase of NH₄NO₃, and KH₂PO₄ concentration as mineral source promoted mycelium growth, and the highest cell growth was showed in the medium with 0.05% KH₂PO₄ when C/N ratio is 20:1, but pigment production was significantly inhibited at higher concentration than this level. Cell growth and pigment production in porato dextrose medium were higher than those in czapeck-dox broth and malt extract medium. In terms of temperature, the highest cell growth was showed at 34℃, but pigment productivity was the highest at 26℃.
마산만 퇴적물의 중금속 및 유기염화합물 오염에 관한 연구

마산내만 및 마산만 유임 주요하천의 오염퇴적물을 1988년 7월부터 1989년 8월에 걸쳐 채취하여 중금속 및 유기염소화합물을 분석하였다. 오염퇴적충의 뚜께는 10㎝에서 169㎝의 넓은 분포를 보였으며 조사지점의 중금속농도는 지점에 따라 많은 차이를 나타내었다. 특히 인근에 마산수출자유지역 및 조선산업이 위치한 조사 지점에서는 모든 중금속의 농도가 가장 높게 나타났다. 마산만 퇴적오염물 중금속 농도를 오염된 일본의 자료와 비교하였을때 Osaka만의 수온을 제외하고 모든 평균농도가 높게 나타났다. 유기염소화합물(PCB 및 DDE)의 농도는 주거지역 및 공장지대가 함께 위치한 산호천 및 마산시 연안지역에서 높게 검출되었다. 본 연구결과에 의하면 마산만과 같은 폐쇄성 해역에서 중금속 오염원으로 공장폐수가 고려될때는 퇴적된 오염물질의 중금속 분석이 좋은 척도가 철 수 있음을 시사하고 있다. Sediments were collected from Masan bay and two main waterways into Masan Bay in the period of July 1988 to August 1989 for the analysis of heavy metals and Organochlorine compounds. The polluted layer of black sludge had a wide range between 10㎝ to 169㎝ and the content of heavy motels was widely distributed from site to site. One site near the Masan free-export area and a shipmaking company was extremely contaminated by heavy metals. All the average concentration of heavy metals in the sediments from Masan Bay were higher than those from Japanese bays compared except Hg from Osaka Bay. Higher levels of PCBs and DDE were found in sediments from Sanho stream and along the coastal area of Masan city. The results obtained in this study imply that the heavy metal analysis of sediments may be a useful to reveal the pollution sources in a closed bay fuck as Masan Bay.

The purpose of this study is to present major performance of advanced facade systems including Double-skin facade, air flow window and air barrier system so that architects and engineers can use as a preliminary standard when adapting these systems to medium or large-sized office buildings. These systems are known as a well performing building element because of natural ventilation. energy savings and aesthetic appearance. But. the high construction cost and few application case in our country makes careful engineering more important. As a result, this study presents major performance matrix and characteristics of each system.

N/A Objectives: Cerebral infarction as a macrovascular complication in patients with diabetes mellitus is frequent. However, mechanisms for the development of cerebral infarction were not well known until today. The aims of this study were 1) to determine the relationship between the fibrinogen Bβ448 polymorphism and fibrinogen levels in patients with cerebral infarction, and 2) to assess usefulness of fibrinogen Bβ448 polymorphism as a marker of cerebral infarction in patients with diabetes mellitus. Methods: We studied 60 diabetes mellitus patients, 26 diabetes mellitus patients with cerebral infarction, 17 cerebral infarction patients, and 121 normal controls, Fibrinogen Bβ448 genotype was determined by the PCR-RFLP method using restriction enzyme Mnl I. Results: Fibrinogen levels in each patient group were not significantly different from one another. Fibrinogen Bβ448 genotype frequencies of the patient groups did not significantly differ from those of the normal controls. Conclusion: This study didn't show the relationship between the fibrinogen Bβ448 polymorphism and fibrinogen levels in patients with cerebral infarction. Moreover, these data didn't suggest the fibrinogen Bβ448 polymorphism as a marker of cerebral infarction in patients with diabetes mellitus. Further studies are needed to find the other polymorphic sites of fibrinogen gene which can affect the levels of fibrinogen.

<P>BACKGROUND: An increase in the level of the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production has been reported in the peritoneal fluid (PF) of endometriosis patients. This suggests that changes in the vascular permeability and angiogenesis play an important role in the pathophysiology of this disease. This study examined the effects of the PF obtained from endometriosis patients on the release of VEGF by neutrophils and monocytes. METHODS: Neutrophils and monocytes were obtained from young healthy volunteers and cultured with the PF obtained from either endometriosis patients (EPF) (<I>n</I>=18) or a control group (CPF) (<I>n</I>=4). A human monocyte/macrophage cell line, THP-1, was cultured with either 10% EPF or 10% CPF. The PF and culture supernatants were assayed for VEGF using ELISA. Real-time PCR and Western blotting were used to measure the VEGF mRNA and protein expression level, respectively. RESULTS: The VEGF levels were higher in the EPF than in the CPF (591 ± 75 versus 185 ± 31 pg/ml, <I>P</I> < 0.05). However, the level of VEGF released by THP-1 cells in CPF and EPF was similar. The EPF induced the release of VEGF by neutrophils, but no VEGF was released by monocytes. The VEGF mRNA expression levels in the neutrophils were higher in the EPF, which was abrogated by cycloheximide, suggesting that the EPF induces the production of VEGF in neutrophils. Neutralizing antibodies against IL-8 and TNF-α did not completely prevent the EPF-induced release of VEGF by the neutrophils, even though these growth factors stimulated the release of VEGF by neutrophils. There was a positive correlation between the VEGF and IL-10 concentrations in the EPF (correlation coefficient=0.549, <I>P</I>=0.012, <I>n</I>=18), but the neutralizing antibody of IL-10 did not affect the release of VEGF by the EPF-treated neutrophils. CONCLUSION: The EPF induced the production and release of VEGF by neutrophils, suggesting that neutrophils may be a source of peritoneal VEGF. In addition, neutrophil-derived VEGF might be a marker for diagnosing endometriosis.</P>
