The maximum toxic contaminant levels for seawater quality are as follows : Cr^(6+) 50 ㎍/L, As 50 ㎍/L, Cd 10 ㎍/L, Pb l00 ㎍/L, Cu 20 ㎍/ L, and Zn 100 ㎍/L. Cyanide, organic -P, mercury and PCB should not be detected in seawater by the regulations and any maximun contaminant level of Alkyl Hg if not yet established in the regulations. However, these levels don't represent reasonable guidelines for conservation of seawater quality when compared to present status of coastal water quality. The contents of Cr^(6+), Cd, Pb, Cu, and Zn in seawater from the most contaminated Masan Bay are 0.10, 0.03, 1.92, 0.64 and 13.95 ㎍/L, respectively. Monitoring levels of seawater from Masan Bay, Jinhae Bay and Onsan Bay are much lower than maximum toxic contaminant levels, even though sediments and bivalves of Mytilus edulis obtained these local environments are extremely contaminated. Further studies are required to estabilish a new amended regulations for preventing from ecological degradation by food chain.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the variations of the soft tissue profile contour in relation to the skeletal patterns and to confirm the correlation of soft tissue angles to the sagittal or vertical skeletal elements. Lateral cephalograms of 79 cases which were older than 17 years in age, were traced and statistically analyzed. The obtained results were as follows 1. Nasolabial, interlabial, lower lip, mentolabial, and symphyseal angles showed the significant differences between SK. Class Ⅱ and SK. Class Ⅲ group, but nasofrontal, upper lip, mentolabial, and symphyseal angles showed the significant differences between high angle and low angle group. 2. ANB value showed the significant positive correlation to nasolabial, symphyseal, and interlabial angles and the significant negative relation to lower lip angle. 3. SN-GoMe value showed the significant positive correlation to mentolabial, symphyseal, nasofrontal, and upper lip angles. 4. Soft tissue profile contour in SK. Class Ⅱ group showed greater accordance to SN-GoMe value than those in SK. Class Ⅲ group.

Diverticular disease of the colon (DDC) the most common affliction in developed countries increases in in-cidence. It is an acquired disease where overactivity of smooth muscle of the colon causes mucosa and sub-mucosa to herniate through the muscle layer of the bowel. Starting from 1964 we have periodically carried out radiologic survey to acertain the tendency of DDC to gradually increase in the Koreans. Initially Kim reported the incidence to be 0.2% in 1964 but the incidence in 1979 increased to 2.5% as reported by Chung et al. As the third survey on the series of the study on DDC we have recently reviewed 1.859 consecutive new cases of double contrast barium enemas performed at the department of radiology Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital Catholic University Medical College during the 5 years' period from Feb 1983 to May 1987. The results were as follows. 1. The present study revealed an incidence 6.0% of DDC 7.2% in male and 5.0% in female (Table1) 2. The distribution of diverticula was 37.0% in ascending colon 13,6% in transverse colon 6.2% in descending colon 3.7% in sigmoid colon (Table 3). 3. The mean number of diverticula was 5 (Table 3) 4. the average age of patients with DDC was 50.5 years (Table 2). From the present study it has emerged that the diverticular disease of the colon in the Koreans is definitely on gradual increase with a significant change in the site of predominant involvement from the right to the left colon.

The sediments provide both short and long-term memory of contamination. Toxic compunds such as heavy metals exert chronic and lethal effects in animals and plants. Heavy metal contamination in sedments from Masan Bay was evaluated by ecological risk indices. The results were concluded that heavy metals contamination in sediments of Masan Bay was "heavily polluted level" by sediment quality guidelines. "considerable degree of contamination" by the degree of contamination (Cd). and "biological effect range between low and median (ERL-ERM)" by guidelines for adverse biological effect. Concentrationsl between effect range low and median represent a possible-effects range within which effects would occasionally occur.

Dietary intake of heavy metals by Korean Foods was estimated by means of total diet study analyzing typical diets prepared in 6 different regions of South Korea. The mean intake of metals(㎍/kg b.w./week) by Korean Foods was 20.9 As, 3,2 Cd, 0.41 Hg, and 21.2 Pb et al, respectively. The risk index in precent ratio of dietary intake to provisional tolerable weekly intake(PTWI) was computed on the basis of nationwide average values and showed 6~8% level in As, Hg and 45~85% in Cd, Pb all of which were below the toxicological standard PTWI proposed by FAO/WHO. However, diets suspecious of contamination far outlying the average intake were observed in cases of As and Hg in some regions, whereas Cd and Pb levels having the normal distribution exceeded the PTWI if the maximum intake was considered.
