Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the behavioral and emotional problems associated with nocturnal enuresis in Korean children. Methods : Three hundred eighteen children with nocturnal enuresis, together with their parents, completed the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), Disruptive Behavior Disorder Scale according to DSM-IV (DBDS), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC), and Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale (PHCSC). Ninety-three normal students were selected as the control group. Results : Compared to the normal control group, the mean scores with regard to the withdrawn, social problems, attention problems, delinquent behavior, aggressive behavior, externalizing problems and total problems profiles were significantly higher in the nocturnal enuresis group according to the CBCL results. The nocturnal enuresis group also scored significantly higher in the ADHD and ODD profiles of the DBDS. The nocturnal enuresis group was more depressed and anxious than the control group according to the results of the CDI and STAI. The mean score of the PHCSC was significantly lower in the nocturnal enuresis group when compared to the normal control group. Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that children with nocturnal enuresis in Korea have clinically relevant behavioral and emotional problems. The findings support the link between nocturnal enuresis and psychopathology in Korean children.
Effect of water on the formation of nanostructured mesoporous titania

Mesostructured titania was prepared by a sol-gel process and the main purpose of this study is to elucidate the effect of water on the crystal structure, specific surface area, pore size, and morphology of the material. We adopt the poly (alkylene oxide) triblock copolymer of F108 as a template to form mesoporous titania. The resulting mesoporous titania, calcined at 300 ℃ to remove the template, was composed of a crystalline titania matrix containing pure anatase nanocrystals and bicrystalline (anatase and rutile) nanocrystals for samples prepared with full ethanol and with an amount of water replacement,respectively, as shown by XRD, Raman and TEM investigations. The mesoporous titania was shown to have a high specific surface area of 565.4 m^2/g and the average pore diameter is 5.2 nm, with a pore volume of 0.76 cm^3/g after it is calcined at 300 ℃ with bicrystalline frameworks when the ethanol solvent is replaced with 25% water. These results show that the hydrolysis reactions have great signifi-cance, and this nanostructured material is of interest for photocatalysts, photoelectrochemical solar cells and other photonic devices.
Prevalence of high-risk human papillomavirus infection in sexual assault survivors in South Korea

목적: We examined the prevalence of HPV infection in adult and adolescent sexual assault survivors. 방법: This was a retrospective study and we reviewed medical records of sexually assaulted victims who visited the Sunflower center of Southern Gyeonggi for Women and Children Victims of Violence.Demographic characteristics including the features of assault as well as datas on HPV and Chlamydia infection were obtained from medical records. The liquid-based cytology (LBC) test was performed using the Pap brush<sup>®</sup> (Sang A Medical, Seoul, Korea) and the Cervex-Brush<sup>®</sup> (Rovers Medical Devices, BV, Oss, The Netherlands). High-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) detection was performed using the commercially available Hybrid Capture 2 assay<sup>®</sup> (HC2; Digene Corp., Gaithersburg, MD, USA). All statistical analyses were conducted using SAS. Chi-square and Fisher’s Exact test were used to compare the distribution of categorical variables between groups. 결과: Among 153 women who were examined with sexual assault evidence collection kit, 145 women underwent HPV testing. High risk HPV DNA was detected in the genital samples of 57 women (39.3%). Women in twenties had highest prevalence of 43.5%. Demographic characteristics and features of assault were not significantly associated with HPV infection. The prevalence of history of sexual intercourse was significantly higher in HPV postive survivors compare to HPV negative survivors (94.7% vs. 73.9%, p=0.001). The incidence of chlamydial infection was also higher in HPV positive survivors comapred to HPV negative survivors (15.8% vs. 6.8%, p=0.074) 결론: This is the first study to report the prevalence of HPV infection in adult and adolescent sexual assault survivors. In this study, 39.3% of 145 women was HPV positive. Our results also showed that HPV positive survivors had a greater chance to be exposed to other sexual transmitted infection such as chlamydial infection. Our results provide evidnece for necessity of routine HPV vaccination in sexually assaulted victims.

The medical educators in Korean are acutely aware of the need for the revision of the medical education programs in Korea which have many drawbacks. In planning for a new medical curriculum, we examined the problems of the traditional curricula of medical schools in Korea, followed by a review of the integrated curricula of other countries. Finally, we have chosen a program that we consider best adaptable to the medical schools in Korea. We believe that the objectives of the new medical curriculum should be to prepare the student to acquire sufficient knowledge, skills, and attitudes which on graduation will allow him to further pursue various specialities of medicine, including areas of basic medicine and a career as a medical scientist. Our approach to medical education in that of (a) integrated teaching, (b) medically and patient oriented, (c) problem-oriented, (d) student-centered, (e) identifying both the core and marginal material in course content and (f) encouraging and motivating for self-learning. The major portion of the program for the new curriculum includes eight weeks of introductory course followed by 52 for the body system courses, which run on an interdisciplinary basis between basic sciences and clinical disciplines during the first two years. The student will then enter the final two years of clerkship with various clinical rotations. We also propose the establishment of a learning center where most of the audio-visual materials used in the curriculum will be shelved. Finally, We propose the administrative structure of the medical programme which will allow the interdisciplinary approach to medical education.

Many intracellular proteins and signaling cascades contribute to the sensitivity of N-methyl-D- aspartate receptors (NMDARs). One such putative contributor is the serine/threonine kinase, protein kinase C (PKC). Activation of PKC by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) causes activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and promotes the formation of new spines in cultured hippocampal neurons. The purpose of this study was to examine which PKC isoforms are responsible for the PMA-induced augmentation of long-term potentiation (LTP) in the CA1 stratum radiatum of the hippocampus in vitro and verify that this facilitation requires NMDAR activation. We found that PMA enhanced the induction of LTP by a single episode of theta-burst stimulation in a concentration- dependent manner without affecting to magnitude of baseline field excitatory postsynaptic potentials. Facilitation of LTP by PMA (200 nM) was blocked by the nonspecific PKC inhibitor, Ro 31-8220 (10ՌM); the selective PKCՄ inhibitor, rottlerin (1ՌM); and the PKCՅ inhibitor, TAT-ՅV1-2 peptide (500 nM). Moreover, the NMDAR blocker DL-APV (50ՌM) prevented enhancement of LTP by PMA. Our results suggest that PMA contributes to synaptic plasticity in the nervous system via activation of PKCՄ and/or PKCՅ, and confirm that NMDAR activity is required for this effect.
Condition Monitoring of Instrumentation Cable Splices Using Kalman Filtering

<P>A linear chirp reflectometry with chirp stretching processing is used to detect and to locate low-voltage control and instrumentation cable splices and fault. Time delay information in the reflected signal is transformed to the instantaneous beat angular frequency by stretching process and the instantaneous beat angular frequency is estimated by Kalman smoother in order to obtain the high resolution time-frequency spectrum of the nonstationary signal. Based on the estimated instantaneous beat angular frequency, the magnitude and phase difference of the reflection coefficient are estimated by Kalman filtering. To verify the performance of the proposed method, comparative experiments are conducted to detect and to locate the splice under different conditions in comparison with traditional time-domain reflectometry method and the proposed method. In addition, to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method, the experiments are carried out for the assessment of state of the shunt and serial faults on cable under test. The location and reflection coefficient of a nominal, water submerged, an opened splice, shunt fault and serial fault (10 Ω, 30 Ω, 50 Ω, 70 Ω, 90 Ω, 1 kΩ) are estimated by the proposed method. The proposed method exhibits advantages in that it uses the pulse compression to improve the range resolution and SNR of reflectometer simultaneously, and the proposed technique can accurately assess the state of the fault, which is closed to short fault or open fault.</P>
