Surgery is the primary treatment for adenocarcinoma originating from the esophagogastric junction. However, many physicians attempt various endoscopic treatments for the cases of early adenocarcinoma and high-grade dysplasia of esophagogastric junction in order to avoid the high risk of complications associated with surgical resection. Recently, there is an increasing tendency to use endoscopic mucosal resection for the management of early esophageal cancer due to low morbidity and mortality rates. We report here on a case of early adenocarcinoma at esophagogastric junction successfully treated with endoscopic mucosal resection.

Indoor air quality is an important determinant of human health and comfort. However, the complexity of pollution sources and the multitude of parties responsible for creating indoor exposures makes the improvement of air quality difficult. The HVAC(Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning) system is important facility to provide comfortable environment passenger service. The Ministry of Environment is established “Indoor Air Quality Management guidelines in Public Facilities” in December 2006. Hereupon, the train and the subway are included. In this research air quality in the Subway compartment has been measured. As a result, the concentrations of PM10 and CO₂ were reached to 93% and 61% of the regulation values, respectively. Thus, the indoor air qualities of subway have been proved that they satisfy the recommended guidelines by the Ministry of Environment.
겨울철 온도와 습도변화에 따른 철도차량 실내 PMV 측정 분석

The indoor PMV(Predicted Mean Vote) in rolling stock is very important for the enhancement of the amenity and health of passengers. Many researchers have studied it not for train but for building. Thermal comfort in Rolling Stock is function of temperature, relative humidity, air current, radiation temperature, etc. So, in this study, we have performed thermal environment in rolling stock(Electric motor car, Saemaeul, Mugunghwa train), and verified the relation between the PMV from Nov.2007 and Feb.2008. As a result, the average PMV value for each trains are 0.2, -0.3 Electric motor car, 0.5, 0.1, 0.1, 1.1 for Mugunghwa, 0.3, 0.5 for Saemaeul.
Antioxidant Activities of Chlorophyta and Phaeophyta from Jeju Island

Antioxidative activities of Chlorophyta and Phaeophyta in Jeju Island were measured by superoxide anion ($O_2^{{\cdot}-}$), hydroxyl radical ($HO^{\cdot}$), hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) and DPPH free radical scavenging assays. Methanolic and aqueous extracts of the seaweeds were prepared at both temperatures, higher (70$^{\circ}C$) and room temperature (20$^{\circ}C$), and screened for the construction of an extract bank from seaweeds in Jeju Island. A variety of extracts showed positive effect against reactive oxygen species (ROS). Especially, Sargassum thunbergii methanolic extract at 70$^{\circ}C$ (70ME, 97.41%), S. fulvellum methanolic extract at 20$^{\circ}C$ (20ME, 84.66%), Codium fragile aqueous extract at 70$^{\circ}C$ (70AE, 96.61%) and S. thunbergii 20ME (97.44%) exhibited the highest scavenging activities against $O_2^{{\cdot}-}$, $HO^{\cdot}$, $H_2O_2$ and DPPH free radicals, respectively. Total phenolic contents also examined but did not show a positive correlation with ROS scavenging abilities (except for a few extracts). These results indicate that further investigation is needed to identify and purify the responsible antioxidative components.
ACF를 이용한 휘발성 유기화합물(VOCs)의 흡착/탈착 특성

기존에 주로 사용되었던 활성탄을 대체할 수 있는 활성탄소섬유를 이용하여 휘발성 유기화합물질의 흡·탈착 특성을 연구하였으며, 고정층을 이용하여 흡착 및 파과특성을 조사하였다. 활성탄소섬유중 ACFJ의 경우가 활성탄에 비하여 약1.15배 높은 흡착량을 보였으며, 흡착층의 온도가 증가함에 따라 파과시간 및 흡착량은 감소하였다. 또한 활 성탄의 경우 약 99%까지 탈착하는데 20분이 소요되었으며, 활성탄소섬유의 경우 약 99% 탈착되기까지 5분이 걸려 활성탄소섬유가 약 4배 빠르게 탈착됨을 알 수 있었다. We investigated the adsorption/desorption property of volatile organic compounds(VOC) by using activated carbon fibers(ACF) instead of activated carbon(AC) which is conventionally used. The adsorption behavior of the fixed bed and the breakthrough characteristics were also studied. As a result, ACFj showed 1.15 times higher adsorption amount as compared to AC. The breakthrough Point and adsorption amount of VOCs were decreased with the increase of temperature. In the case of AC, desorption time having 99% removal efficiency was about as minutes, but that of ACF was about 5 minutes at same condition.
신규 화장품 소재로서 Lactobacillus plantarum HDB1234 용암해수 발효물의 피부장벽강화 효과

In this study, we developed Lava-Dermabiotics HDB1234 using Lactobacillus plantarum HDB1234 and lava seawater fermentation technology to enhance skin barrier. The use of lava seawater increased the purity and concentration of nucleotides in Lava-Dermabiotics HDB1234 by using nanodrop 2000 spectrophotometer. Also, when 5%(v/v) Lava-Dermabiotics HDB1234 was treated, cytotoxicity on normal human epidermal keratinocytes (NHEKs) and human fibroblast cells was not observed by using MTT assay. The mRNA expressions of claudin-1 (CLDN-1), serine palmitoyltransferase (SPT), and filaggrin (FLG) on Lava-Dermabiotics HDB1234 treated cells were dose-dependent higher than those of non-treated cells. Especially, the protein expression of FLG was also confirmed by using western blotting and immunocytochemistry staining. These results indicated that Lava-Dermabiotics HDB1234 could be used as a potential cosmetic ingredient for skin barrier enhancement through CLDN-1, SPT, and FLG expression related to the formation of skin barrier.
초음파를 이용하여 제조된 Poly ( 2-ethylhexylacrylate ) 의 흡유능력

출발물질로서 2-ethylhexylacrylate, 가교성단량체로서 ethyleneglycoldimetha-crylate, 개시제로서 benzoylperoxide 및 현탁제로서 geltine을 이용한 현탁중합을 통하여 poly(2-ethylhexylacrylate)를 얻었고 또한 20 ℃에서 이들 중합체들의 흡유능력을 측정하였다. Poly(2-ethylhexylacrylate)의 흡유 능력은 초음파의 조사시간과 조사강도에 크게 의존함을 알 수 있었고, 최적의 제조조건은 초음파 조사시간 10 min, 조사강도 675 W이었고, 흡유능력은 등유, 중유, 원유의 순이었다. 또한 대부분의 기름은 60 min 이내에 포화흡유능력을 보였다. For the formation of poly(2-ethylhexy1-acrylate) polymer, the suspension polymerization was used with ultrasonic sonication. In the preparation of poly(2-ethylhexy1-acrylate) polymer, 2-ethylhexylacrylate as the starting material; ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate as the cross-linker; benzoylperoxide as the initiator; and gelatine were used. The oil-absorption capacity of the prepared poly(2-ethylhexylacrylate) polymer was measured at 20 ℃. It was shown that the oil-absorption capacity of poly(2-ethylhexylacrylate) polymer depended on the property of ultrasonic waves; the optimum sonication time and intensity of ultrasonic waves were 10 min and 675 W, respectively. The oil-absorption capacit, in the increasing order, was kerosene, bunker fuel oil B, bunker fuel oil A and crude oil. The oil-absorption capacity of these oils was saturated within 60 min at 20 ℃.
