Homeotropic orientations of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) are investigated on fluorinated diamond-like carbon (FDLC) films that are exposed to an Ar ion-beam. These novel investigations result in the realization of a completely dry processing technique for both the thin film deposition and alignment steps. FDLC films are selected on the basis of the characteristics of the homeotropic alignment layer with regard to the relationship between surface tension and LC orientation. Extreme hydrophobic property from the CFx bonding on the surface contributed largely to the uniform vertical LC alignment. Ion beam process which was treated after FDLC deposition generates suitable pretilt angle tram the surface normal. Selected pretilt angles in the range of 71~90˚could be obtained with ion beam irradiation. These pretilt angles had sensitive dependences on the thin film composition and the angle of ion-beam irradiation.

A human study of the effects on hemodynamics of caffeine and epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate (EGCG) was performed. Caffeine tablets (200 mg) were orally administered to healthy males aged between 25 and 35 years 30 min after oral administration of EGCG tablets (100 and 200 mg). The increase in BP induced by caffeine was inhibited when co-administrated with EGCG. We found that caffeine slightly decreased heart rate (HR) in the volunteers. Although EGCG enhanced HR reduction, the effect was not significant. In addition, caffeine increased blood catecholamine levels, but EGCG inhibited the increase in noradrenaline, adrenaline and dopamine levels induced by caffeine. Whether EGCG decreases the elevated HR and systolic perfusion pressure, and ventricular contractility induced by adrenergic agonists in the isolated rat heart was investigated. The modified Krebs–Henseleit solution was perfused through a Langendorff apparatus to the isolated hearts of rats. HR, systolic perfusion pressure, and developed maximal rates of contraction (+dP/dtmax) and relaxation (-dP/dtmax) were increased by epinephrine (EP) and isoproterenol (IP). In contrast, EGCG decreased the elevated HR, systolic perfusion pressure, and left ventricular ±dp/dtmax induced by EP and/or IP. In conclusion, EGCG could attenuate the hemodynamics stimulated by caffeine through decreasing catecholamine release.

Purpose: C1q nephropathy (C1qN) is a rare glomerulonephritis characterized by mesangial deposits, predominantly C1q, without the evidence of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It showed various clinical courses, however, the clinicopathologic features of C1qN have not been well defined as yet. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinicopathologic features of 11 patients (0.8%) diagnosed as C1qN among 1,403 patients aged 18 years who had undergone renal biopsy due to primary glo ≥-merular disease from Jan. 2000 to Jan. 2009. Diagnostic criteria of C1qN were as follows; 1) the presence of dominant or co-dominant immunofluorescence staining for C1q in the mesangium, 2) corresponding mesangial dense deposit by electron microscopy, and 3) lack of clinical evidence of SLE. Results: The male-to-female ratio was 6:5 and their mean age was 41.1±22.6 yrs (range, 19-69 yrs). Eight patients presented with urinary abnormalities and three with nephrotic syndrome. At the time of biopsy, three patients had hypertension. The mean value of 24-hour urine protein was 4.4±5.5g/day (range, 0.5-18.5g/day). On light microscopy, normal glomerular architecture (4/11) and segmental sclerosis (7/11) were observed. Complete or partial remission was achieved in six of the seven patients treated with immunosuppressive agents (steroid and/or immunosuppressants). Among these patients, two using steroid monotherapy had relapsed. The mean follow-up duration was 14±11 months (range, 2-31 months) and renal function deterioration was observed in three patients. Conclusion: C1qN showed various clinical manifestations and prognosis. Therefore, additional studies are needed to fully define the clinicopathologic features.

본 연구에서는 소수다공성 중공사막을 이용한 분리막 접촉기를 이용하여 바이오가스 내 이산화탄소를 제거하여 연료로 사용할 수 있는 고순도 바이오메탄을 생산하고자 하였다. 분리막 접촉기는 다공성 분리막의 세공을 통하여 기/액접촉이 효율적으로 이루어지므로 흡수법에 비해 작은 장치규모로도 바이오가스 정제가 가능하며, 기체와 액체의 직접접촉을 통해 흡수제에 대한 용해도가 큰 기체성분을 제거하기 때문에 빠른 물질전달 속도를 갖는 장점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 폴리프로필렌 중공사막을 이용하여 분리막 접촉기 모듈을 제작하여 시험하였다. 바이오가스 정제를 시험하기 위해 모델가스를 이용하였으며, 기체 유량, 액체 유량, 접촉기 모듈 형태, 운전압력을 변화시키며 시험하였고, 이를 통해 최적의 분리조건을 탐색하였다.

이산화탄소의 효과적인 분리 및 포집을 위해서 등방성 다공성 구조의 폴리프로필렌(pp) 격자의 내부에 제올라이트 입자들이 표면 덮임 없이 균일하게 분포되어 있는 흡착투과중공사막(APM: adsorptive permeation hollow fiber membrane)을 개발하였다. 본 연구에서는 이산화탄소/질소 혼합물을 모사 기체혼합물로 사용하였는데, 공급되는 기체혼합물 모두가 APM을 투과하면서 이산화탄소는 APM 내 분포되어 있는 흡착제에 흡착되고 질소는 투과하여 배출된다. APM이 장착된 모듈을 제조하여 이에 대한 흡착투과실험을 수행하여 흡착투과 성능을 분석하였고 또한 포화 흡착된 APM을 진공압에서 탈착재생하여 그 결과를 재생효율과 에너지소모 관점에서 고찰하였다. Adsorptive permeation hollow fiber membrane (APM) has been developed for effectively separating CO2 from gas mixture. Inside the APM, zeolite 13X particles were uniformly dispersed without covering their surfaces by a symmetric porous structure of polypropylene lattice. In this study, CO2/N2 mixture was used as a simulated gas mixture. Separation was achieved by adsorbing CO2 on the zeolite particles in the APM and then permeating N2 into permeate side in passing all the feed gas through the APM. Adsorptive permeation tests were carried out with a set of APM modules, and the adsorptive permeation performances of the modules were analyzed from the test results. After saturation of the adsorbent with CO2, the APM was regenerated by desorption of CO2 from it through vacuuming both inside of outside of the APM hollow fiber, and the regeneration process of the APM by vacuuming was discussed in terms of regeneration efficiency and energy consumption.
한려해상국립공원 동부지역(지심도, 내도, 윤돌도, 송도, 갈도)의 관속식물상

This study was conducted to investigate the distribution of vascular plants in five islands of Jisimdo, Naedo, Yoondoldo, Songdo and Galdo in East Hallyeohaesang National Park. The Islands were surveyed from 2010 to 2011. The flora was classified to as: Jisimdo, 246 taxa; 85 families, 195 genus, 219 species, 3 subspecies, 24 varieties and 2 forma. Naedo, 143 taxa; 72 families, 127 genus, 131 species, 12 varieties. Yoondoldo, 84 taxa; 56 families, 73 genus, 219 species, 1 subspecies, 10 varieties. Songdo, 70 taxa; 33 families, 63 genus, 64 species, 6 varieties and Galdo, 93 taxa; 47 families, 84 genus, 84 species, 1 subspecies, 7 varieties, and 1 forma. Thus, a total of 380 taxa; 105 families, 272 genus, 334 species, 3 subspecies, 39 varieties and 4 forma were observed. A total of 8 and 6 taxa were found to be rare plants in surveyed areas and endemic to Korea, respectively. Distribution of floristic special plants in the surveyed area was divided into five classes (class Ⅰ- Ⅴ), 42 taxa; were in class Ⅰ, 1 taxa; was in class Ⅱ, 25 taxa; were in class Ⅲ, 4 taxa; were in class Ⅳ and 4 taxa; were in class Ⅴ. Total floristic special plants were 76 taxa. 한려해상국립공원 동부지역에 속해 있는 5개의 섬(지심도, 내도, 윤돌도, 송도, 갈도)에 대한 식물상을2010년부터 2011년까지 조사하였다. 본 연구 대상지역에 분포하는 관속식물의 출현은 지심도는 85과 195속 219종 24변종 2품종 3아종 246분류군, 내도는 72과 127속 131종 12변종 143분류군, 윤돌도는 56과73속 73종 10변종 1아종 84분류군, 송도는 33과 63속 64종 6변종 70분류군, 갈도는 47과 84속 84종 7변종 1품종 1아종 93분류군으로 모두 105과 272속 334종 39변종 4품종 3아종으로 총 380분류군이 출현하였다. 산림청 지정 희귀식물은 7종이 출현하였으며, 특산식물은 6종이 출현하였고, 식물구계학적 특정식물종은 Ⅰ등급에는 42종류, Ⅱ등급에는 1종, Ⅲ등급에는 25종류, Ⅳ등급에는 4종류, Ⅴ등급에는 4종류로 총 76종류가 출현하였다.

Systemic sclerosis is associated to lymphocytic infiltration and fibrosis of multiple organs. The cause of systemic sclerosis is autoimmune disorder, so systemic sclerosis may be associated with other connective tissue disease or endocrine disease which may be induced by autoantibody. In this case, we experienced 44 year-old woman who presented with sclerosis on hand and upper arms. In serum, tri-iodothyronine (T3), Ca^+2 and parathyroid hormone (PTH) are in high concentration, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and phosphate are in low concentration. She is diagnosed to hypothyroidism and hypoparathyroidism in systemic sclerosis. Hypothyroidism and hypoparathyroidism in systemic sclerosis may be rare. We report the case of hypothyroidism and hypoparathyroidism in systemic sclerosis with review of literature.
