Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma 1
1987 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.16 No.2
A case of pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma that occured in a 27-year-old woman is reported. Despite of cellular pleomorphism and presence of bizarre giant cells in the microscopic picture, the relatively favourable prognosis is the most important characteristic.
Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma 1
1985 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.14 No.2
The pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma is considered as a special subgroup of gliomas because of its distinctive characteristics regarding age, gross and microscopic features, and perhaps, most importantly, the relatively favorable prognosis despite of pleomorphism and bizarre giant cells in the microscopic picture. Because of rarity of this disease entity, we report a case of pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma with a review of literature.
Rapid Progression of Early Delayed Radiation Effect in Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma
Park, Kyung-Jae,Kang, Shin-Hyuk,Lee, Hoon-Kap,Chung, Yong-Gu The Korean Neurosurgical Society 2009 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.46 No.6
Early delayed radiation effects are known to occur within several months after completing radiotherapy for brain tumors. We present marked changes of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan that occurred one month after radiotherapy in a patient with a pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma, which was eventually diagnosed as an early delayed radiation effect. Such an early development of dramatic MRI change has not been reported in patients treated with radiotherapy for pleomorphic xanthoastrocytomas.
Pleomorhic Xanthoastrocytoma 1
1982 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.11 No.4
A case of pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma of the temporal lobe in a 27 year-old man who had severe frontal headache and diplopia is presented. Brain computed tomographic scan revealed a relatively well demarcated, slightly hyperdense mass with cyst surrounding low density in left temporoparietal area. After contrast enhancement, the mass is highly enhanced. The graish-brown, highly vascular mass was totally removed. Despite of their highly pleomorphic and bizzarre cytology, which suggests a malignant behavior, these tumors appear to have a relatively favorable prognosis.
Report of 2 Cases
1996 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.25 No.8
Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma is a recently characterized neoplasm with relatively favorable prognosis despite aggressive hstological features Two cases of pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma involving the left temporal lobe are reported, both occuring in adolescents. The tumor is considered to arise arise from the subpial astrocytes of the superficial cortex Electorn microscopic examination and irnmunoperoxidase stains for glial fibrillary acidic protein(GFAP) are helpful in making a definitive histologic diagnosis In contrast to malignant gliomas. pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma does not appear to require aggressive postoperative radiation therapy or chemotherapy Therefore, it is important to recoginze and identify this type of glioma as a distinct entity.
Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma 1
1988 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.17 No.5
The plemorphic xanthoastrocyotma has been known as a very rare type of glioma, which occurs mainly in the temporal lobe of the brain in young ages. It has distinctive characteristics regarding age, symptoms and signs, gross and microscopic features and relatively favorable prognosis despite of pleomorphism and bizarre giant cells in microscopic picture. The authors report a case of plemorphic xanthoastrocytoma presented with generalized seizure and review the past literatures.
