        Growth Inhibition of Colon Cancer through Inactivation of STAT3 Pathway by IL-10 and IL-1ra Released from Murine Macrophage

        The objective of this study was to determine the effect of macrophages on growth of human colon cancer cells. The results showed that co-culture of colon cancer cells with macrophages inhibited the growth of colon cancer cells (HCT116 and SW620) depending on the number of macrophages, RAW 264.7 cells, and activated THP-1 cells accompanied by down regulation of pSTAT3 in cancer cells. We also found that expression and release of cancer cell growth inhibitory cytokines, IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) and IL-10, was increased in macrophages. Blocking of the STAT3 pathway with specific inhibitor and siRNA of STAT3 abolished the growth of colon cancer cells and expression of IL-1ra and IL-10. In addition, neutralization of IL-1ra and IL-10 with antibodies resulted in reversal of macrophage-induced inhibition of cancer cell growth. These data showed that IL-1ra and IL-10 released from macrophages inhibit growth of colon cancer cells through inhibition of the STAT3 pathway

        원발성 중추신경계 임파종 : 치료 및 생존율 Treatment and Survival Rate

        The authors report on 17 patients having primary central nervous system(CNS) lymphomas between January, 1981 and August, 1992. All patients were treated at Seoul National University Hospital. Only three cases underwent surgery only and fourteen cases underwent surgery and radiation therapy with or without chemotherapy. There were no immunosuppressive patients. Sixteen patients were analyzed for survival studies, because one case was lost during follow-up. The median survival time(MST) was 26 months and one- and two-year survival rates for the 16 patients were 87.5% and 65.6% respectively. The rate of survival was analyzed according to possible prognostic factors ; age and sex, multiplicity and location of tumors, preoperative Karnofsky performance score(KPS), pathological subclassification, type of surgery, preoperative steroid therapy, postoperative adjuvant therapy, extent of radiation, chemotherapy and the degree of response to treatment at three months follow-up. Postoperative adjuvant therapy and the degree of response to the treatment correlated with survival. Fourteen patients who underwent postoperative adjuvant therapy had a median survival time of 63 months. The one- and two-year survival rates were 100% and 75% respectively compared to the MST of 1.5 months with survival rates of 0% and 0% retrospectively for the two patients who did not. A higher long term survival rate was observed in the group with better immediate responses. In nine of 16 patients with complete responses, the MST, one-, and two-year survival rates were 63 months, 100%, and 83% respectively. The authors suggest that preoperative application of steroids may be considered in case of clinically suspected primary CNS lymphomas. It is concluded that after obtaining the tissue diagnosis of primary CNS lymphomas, radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy should be performed until the complete response.

      • 人體 胃癌 및 胃炎에서의 CEA의 表現에 對한 免疫酵素 組織學的 硏究

        Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) isolated from adenocarcinomata of human digestive system and fetal or embryonic gut tissue is one of tumor associated antigens. In recent years, extensive studies to detect CEA in the blood as well as in the tissue of various conditions have been reported. However, characterization of CEA in the tissue of stomach cancer, common malignant tumor in Korea, has rarely been investigated. The author performed peroxidase-antiperoxidase immunohistologic study with anti-CEA antibody to determine the presence of CEA in 51 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma and 18 cases of chronic gastritis. All tissues examined were obtained with endoscopic biopsy, fixed in 10% formalin and embedded in paraffin. The findings were analysed and results obtained are as following. 1. CEA positive reaction to anti-CEA antibody was noted in 45 of the 51 cases with gastric cancer (88.2%). 2. Patterns of positive reaction to anti-CEA antibody of 45 CEA positive adenocarcinomas were focal in 9 cases (20.0%), moderate in 10 cases (22.2%) and diffuse in 26 cases (57.8%). 3. Comparing the pattern of CEA positive reaction with histologic differentiation of cancer cell, the differentiated type showed diffuse linear pattern along membrane the surface and undifferentiated type revealed focal positive pattern in the cytoplasm. 4. Of 18 cases with chronic gastritis, 8 cases of non-specific gastritis and 10 cases of intestinal metaplasia, CEA poistive reaction to anti-CEA antibody was noted in 4 cases at the lesion of intestinal metaplasia. The results obtained above suggest that presence of CEA in gastric cancer is detected 88% of cases, variable in pattern, partly depending on morphologic differentiation, and even exhibit in goblet cells in some intestinal metaplasia which is believed to be a precancerous condition of stomach cancer.

      • MWPC 위치검출기의 X-선 천체물리학에의 응용

        1983 년경 국내에서도 과학탐사 로케트와 인공위성이 발사될 예정에 있으며 이에 따라 X-선 천체물리학을 위한 방사선 센서의 국내 개발이 시급히 요청되는 바이다. 따라서 현재 방사선계측에 많이 이용되고 있는 방사선 센서들 중 국내에서 개발되어온 MWPC위치검출기를 소개하고 인공위성 혹은 과학탐사로케트에 탑재되어 X-선 천체물리학연구에 이용될 경우 연구 개발되어 나가야 할 방향을 제시하고자 한다. Domestic sounding rocket and scientific satellite are scheduled to launch around 1993. The development of radiation sensor is required to observe X-rays coming from celestial bodies by the use of those space vehicleS. In this study we introduce the multi-wire position sensitive detector and the future works of onboard detector for X-ray astrophysics.

      • 대학생의 노인에 대한 태도에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to identify the perception, the future and images, and prejudice toward old people. And to examine difference the group of gerontological education (educated group) with the non-educated group. 189 students in K university were participated in this study. The educated group was composed 101 students who enrolled liberal arts course that learned this title. Data were collected from May to June, 2002. The results are as follows; 1) Many students perceived the elderly that was started 60~64 years. 2) The perception, the future and images, and prejudice of both groups were some positively. 3) Each variables were not significantly difference. But the mean level of the educated group were more higher. 4) The educated group was found significantly related to the perception and prejudice(r=.303, p=.002). The non-educated group was found significantly related to the perception and the future and image(r=.421, p=.000), the perception and prejudice(r=.321, p=.003), the future, image and prejudice(r=.272, p=.012).

      • 미세심공 드릴가공에 있어서 Be-Cu 재료의 절삭시 절삭조건에 따른 구멍 내면의 거칠기 변화에 관한 연구

        Recently micro deep hole drilling is required in the whole industry. However, micro deep hole drilling has still much difficulty because of the lack of drill rigidity and the interruption of chip. We treated a micro deep hole(diameter 0.35mm, depth 3mm) used in a connector jack pin. Therefore, a surface roughness is very important. In this paper, we studied on the variation of the surface roughness for cutting conditions during micro deep hole drilling of Be-Cu material. Most of all, we tried to drill on CNC for the realization of automatization.

        기저재용 광중합형 글래스아이오노머의 치질 및 복합 레진 인레이에 대한 접착양상

        연구는 간접 복합 레진 인레이 수복 시 기저재로 사용되는 광중합형 글래스아이오노머와 인레이 접착에 사용되는 레진 시멘트간의 접착 전까지의 시간 경과에 따른 전단 결합강도를 측정하고, 상아질과 글래스아이오노머, 글래스아이오노머와 레진 시멘트간 접착계면에 대해 SEM 관찰하였다. 2종의 광중합형 글래스아이오노머 시멘트 Fuji II LC (GC Co, Tokyo, Japan)와 Vitrebond (3M, Paul, Minnesota, U.S.A)의 시편을 제작하였다 5 mmx7 mm의 실리콘 주형에 Artglass (Heraeus Kultzer, Germany)를 이용하여 레진 인레이를 제작하였다. 글래스아이오노머 베이스를 각 각 1시간, 24시간, 1주 및 2주 동안 37℃ 증류수에 보관한 후 Variolink II (Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein)를 적용하여 인레이를 접착하였다. 만능 물성시험기(Model 4302, Instron, U.S.A)를 이용하여 결합 면에 1 mm/min의 속도로 1000 kg 하중을 가하여 전단 결합강도를 측정하였고, one-way ANOVA를 이용하여 통계 분석하였다. SEM 관찰을 위해 발거된 제 3대구치에 2급 와동을 형성하였고, 기저재로 광중합형 글래스아이오노머 시멘트를 적용하였다. 인레이를 접착한 시편을 수직 절단하여 상아질, 글래스아이오노머, 및 복합레진 인레이 간의 계면을 SEM (JSM-5400 Jeol, Tokyo, Japan) 관찰하였다. 시간 경과에 따른 글래스아이오노머와 복합 레진 인레이 사이의 전단 결합강도는 통계학적으로 유의한 차이가 없었으며, 기저재 재료에 따른 전단 결합강도의 유의한 차이도 없었으며 대부분 시편에서 글라스아이오노머 내부에서 응집 파괴 (Cohesive failure)가 발생하였다. SEM 관찰 시 글래스아이오노머와 상아질 사이에 약 30-20 rn 정도의 간극 (gap)이 형성되었으며 , 글래스아이오노머와 복합 레진 인레이 계면에서는 1시간 후 접착한 시편을 제외하고 간극은 발견되지 않았다. This study was done to evaluate the shear bond strength between light-cured glass ionomer cement (GIC) base and resin cement for luting indirect resin inlay and to observe bonding aspects which is produced at the interface between them by SEM. Two types of light cured GIC (Fuji II LC Improved, GC Co. Tokyo, Japan and Vitrebond, 3M, Paul Minnesota U.S.A) were used in this study. For shear bond test, GIC specimens were made and immersed in 37℃ distilled water for 1 hour, 24 hours, 1 week and 2 weeks. Eighty resin inlays were prepared with Artglass (Heraeus Kultzer Germany) and luted with Variolink II (Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein). Shear bond strength of each specimen was measured and fractured surface were examined. Statistical analysis was done with one-way ANOVA. Twenty four extracted human third molars were selected and Class II cavities were prepared and GIC based at axiopulpal lineangle. The specimens were immersed in 37℃ distilled water for 1 hour, 24 hours, 1 week and 2 weeks. And then the resin inlays were luted to prepared teeth. The specimens were sectioned vertically with low speed saw. The bonding aspect of the specimens were observed by SEM (JSM-5400, Jeol, Tokyo, Japan) .There was no significant difference between the shear bond strength according to storage periods of light cured GIC base. And cohesive failure was mostly appeared in GIC On scanning electron micrograph, about 30 - 120 ㎛ of the gaps were observed on the interface between GIC base and dentin. No gaps were observed on the interface between GTC and resin inlay.
