The inhibition pattern of three inhibitors(tacrine, decamethonium and propidium) on the hydrolysis of various thiocholine ester substrates by eel acetylcholinesterase was comparatively examined. When the substrate was acetylthiocholine, it showed a similar competitive inhibition by tacrine inhibitor, and a mixed type inhibition by decamethonium and propidium inhibitors. When the substrate was pentanoylthiocholine, it showed an uncompetitive inhibition by tacrine, and a noncompetitive inhibition by decamethonium. When the substrate was laurylthiocholine, it showed mixed type and uncompetitive inhibition by tacrine, and a competitive inhibition by decamethonium and propidium. Those results suggest that the active of acetylcholinesterase has the existence of hydorphobic site besides the anionic and esteratic site.

The relationship between adolescent children and parents has a profound effect on not only the adolescents development into healthy adults but also the psychological welfare of the parent. A program focused to improve adolescents relationship with parents has not been developed until now. To achieve the educational goals enhancing mutual understanding, it is more effective to educate both the parents and adolescent childern. Thus, this study developed and carried out a program in which adolescent children and mothers, being fully in charge of raising children, participated. The study analyzed the program effects after implementing on 6 pairs of adolescent children and mothers. The results are as follows: 1) adolescent children and mothers placed high values on the fact that they can understand each other well, 2) both parties accepted each other by recognizing the inevitability of the generation gap, and 3) the program gave them a chance to admit that they should try to communicate openly. Most of all, adolescent children could find self-confidence while mothers could collect valuable data essential to raise children and build a new mother's role model adapting to social changes.
간암 환자에 합병된 Citrobacter braakii 패혈증 1례 보고

Citrobacter species is a gram-negative bacilli that can cause opportunistic infections in immunocompromised hosts. Citrobacter braakii refers to the genomospecies 6 of the Citrobacter freundii complex. There are no detailed studies on infections caused by this newly identified specific genetic species in Korea. We herein report a case of a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma who, after undergoing transcatheter arterial chemoembolization, developed biloma which later progressed to C.braakii sepsis and did not respond to treatment. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case in Korea on C. braakii infection resulting in septic shock in a patient with malignancy in Korea.

The purpose of the study was to examine the influence of extreme heat environmental on cardiorespiratory fitness and immune function in elderly women. The subjects of this study were eight post-menopausal elderly women without any metabolic disease. All eight subjects were asked to do treadmill exercise(modified bruce`s protocol) in the laboratory and experimental temperature within laboratory were adjusted to two condition: Extreme heat temperature(33±0.5°C), normal temperature(20±0.5°C) and maintained 50±3% humidity condition. Each experimental exercise were monitored and analyzed the change of NK cell and immunoglobulin(IgG, IgA, IgM). Cardiorespiratory fitness(respiratory quotient, total exercise time, heart rate) was a significant difference at exercise and recovery between two condition(p<.05). In extreme heat temperature, respiratory quotient and heart rate were more rapidly increased, resulted in significantly higher than normal temperature(p<.05). Immune function(immunoglobulin and NK cell) was significantly decreased at post-exercise compared to pre-exercise(p<.05), Immune function were significantly decreased in extreme heat temperature(p<.05). These results show that elderly women can decrease their cardiorespiraory fitness and immune function on extreme heat temperature.

<P>Cancerous inhibitor of protein phosphatase 2A (CIP2A) is overexpressed in most human cancers and has been described as being involved in the progression of several human malignancies via the inhibition of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) activity toward c-Myc. However, with the exception of this role, the cellular function of CIP2A remains poorly understood. On the basis of yeast two-hybrid and coimmunoprecipitation assays, we demonstrate here that NIMA (<U>n</U>ever <U>i</U>n <U>m</U>itosis gene <U>A</U>)-related kinase 2 (NEK2) is a binding partner for CIP2A. CIP2A exhibited dynamic changes in distribution, including the cytoplasm and centrosome, depending on the cell cycle stage. When CIP2A was depleted, centrosome separation and the mitotic spindle dynamics were impaired, resulting in the activation of spindle assembly checkpoint signaling and, ultimately, extension of the cell division time. Our data imply that CIP2A strongly interacts with NEK2 during G<SUB>2</SUB>/M phase, thereby enhancing NEK2 kinase activity to facilitate centrosome separation in a PP1- and PP2A-independent manner. In conclusion, CIP2A is involved in cell cycle progression through centrosome separation and mitotic spindle dynamics.</P>

Congenital non-parasitic splenic cysts comprise approximately 10% of all splenic cysts. Clinical manifestations in patients with splenic cyst are often nonspecific and ultrasound or CT is useful for its diagnosis. Total splenectomy has been the major way of treatment. However, currently, spleen-saving procedures are strongly recommended because of the immunological role of the spleen. One of such procedures, the percutaneous treatment with sclerosing agents has already been reported with a good result. In this report, we present a case of a 12×17 cm sized giant congenital splenic cyst treated with percutaneously using ethanol as a sclerosing agent. Seven-times of injections (total 140mL, 20mL/time, every 3 days) into the cystic cavity through the inserted catheter were performed for 3 weeks. After the treatment, the size of cyst decreased markedly in 8 months. On the basis of these results, we may conclude that the percutaneous ethanol ablation therapy is an alternative to surgical treatment for splenic cyst. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2001;38:300-303)
