Reading Yeats’s Letters Written in France

예이츠(W. B. Yeats)는 평생 프랑스, 파리를 10여 차례나 방문하여, 길게는 46일간 체류하면서, 많은 문인들과 신비주의자들과 교류하고, 공연을 보고, 작품을 쓰거나 구상하며, 대마초 -당시는 불법이 아니었지만- 를 피우기도 한다. 그러나, 흥미롭게도, 그가 장기간 머물고 있던 때는, 자신의 평생의 연인인 모드 곤이 파리에, 혹은 노르망디에 거주하고 있었다. 물론, 최초로 파리에 머물 때는 메이더스의 집에 머물었고, 그 다음에는 호텔 꼬르네이유라는 문인들이 모이는 곳에서 작품을 쓴다는 목적이었다. 그러나, 모드 곤과의 첫 키스가 있은 직후는, 파리의 그녀의 집에서, 또 마지막 청혼을 할 때는 노르망디의 그녀의 집에서 머문다. 그리고, 예이츠가 조지와 결혼한 후에는 9년간 파리를 방문하지 않는다. 훨씬 후 병이 나자 치료하려 프랑스 남쪽을 찾고, 나중에는 그곳에서 사망하고 묻힌다. 그러나, 모드 곤에 이끌려, 파리를 방문하지만, 예이츠는 이곳에서 많은 것을 얻어간다. 파리에 머물면서 쓴 그의 편지는, 당시의 그의 심경, 상황, 문학관, 예술관, 등등 많은 것을 엿볼 수 있게 해준다. 이 논문은 이미 많이 다루어진 인물 보다는, 덜 다루어진 사람들과의 교류를 보여주는 편지의 소개에 중점을 둔다. Reading the letters written by Yeats while in Paris, along with the notes to them fully footnoted by the editors gives a lot of new insights into Yeats the man and his milieu. The Yeats's Paris periods have a lot to offer, as studies on them have not been done extensively and deeply. The image of John O'Leary as a writer has turned to be darker, as the fact is revealed that Yeats had kept himself from reviewing his book itself; instead, he had been diplomatic enough to focus on O'Leary's personality. Only did he comment on his capacity as writer after he died. That Yeats smoked all his life, which is new to me, and took hashish, though it was not illegal then, in Paris could be linked to his lung congestion later on. We could further develop the subject of Yeats and the French poets, Mallarme and Verlaine. The correspondence between Robert Bridges and Yeats can lead to further research into their poetics. Finally, the taste of Yeats in art can be understood by looking into the artist Althea Giles and other artists. The new books, The Collected Letters of W. B. Yeats will make a lot of contribution to deepen the studies of Yeats and his poetry and prose work. I look forward to further publication of more books covering his middle and last periods.

MPLS 트래픽 엔지니어링을 위한 레이블 할당 방법

본 논문에서는 MPLS망에서 효과적인 트래픽 엔지니어링을 위하여 IP 플로우 모델에 기반한 레이블 할당 방법을 제안하고 성능을 분석하였다 지속시간이 길고 많은 패킷들을 포함하고 높은 전송률을 보이는 베이스 플로우들은 전체 트래픽 로드의 많은 부분을 차지하고 있기 때문에 네트워크에서 장기적인 혼잡현상을 발생시키는 주요원인이 된다 따라서 트래픽 기반 레이블 할당방법에 의해 분류된 베이스 플로우들을 네트워크 혼잡시 우선적으로 우회 LSP에 할당하는 명시적 경로 설정 방법을 이용하여 혼잡 현상을 빠르게 해결할 수 있다 제안한 레이블 할당 방법은 X/Y 플로우 판별자와 라우팅 테이블을 이용하는데 베이스 플로우를 판별하기 위하여 패킷수 기반과 cut-through ratio 기반 방법을 제안하여 비교하였다 제안한 방법들은 2계층으로 스위칭 되는 패킷수의 비율(Cut-throguh Rtatio)을 크게 떨어뜨리지 않고 할당되는 레이블 수를 최소화시킨다. In this paper, label assignment schemes considering the IP flow model for the efficient MPLS traffic engineering are proposed and evaluated. Based on the IP flow model, the IP flows are classified into transient flows and base flows. Base flows, which last for a long time, transmit data in high bit rate, and be composed of many packets, have good implications for the MPLS traffic engineering, because they usually cause network congestion. To make use of base flows for the MPLS traffic engineering, we propose two base flow classifiers and label assignment schemes where transient flows are allocated to the default LSPs and base flows to explicit LSPs. Proposed schemes are based on the traffic-driven label triggering method combined with a routing tabel. The first base flow classifier uses both flow size in packet counts and routing entries, and the other one, extending the dynamic X/Y flow classifier, is based on a cut-through ratio. Proposed schemes are shown to minimize the number of labels, not degrading the total cut-through ratio.

Painterly Poeticizing in W. B. Yeats’s Poetry

예이츠(W. B. Yeats)는 화가를 아버지로, 화가 수업을 받은 시인이었다. 시인으로 성장하면서 문인 못지 않게 여러 화가들과 예술가적 환경에서 생활하였는데, 그의 저술 여기저기에 회화에 대한 언급이 많다. 따라서 그의 시의 형성에는 화가적 시학이 깊이 뿌리내리고 있다고 보아도 틀리지 않다는 전제가 이 논문의 바탕이 된다. 그리고 그의 시작 초기에 결정적 영향을 준 사람이 시인이며 화가인 영국의 대표적 낭만주의 시인인 블래이크(William Blake)이다. 예이츠는 이 시인을 두 번에 걸쳐 편집하고, 곧 이어서 두 편의 글 “회화의 상징성” (1898년)과 “시의 상징성” (1900년)을 발표한다. 이 작업을 통해 예이츠시의 골격이 형성되었다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 이 시기의 시들은 회화의 상징주의와 잘 비교 대조된다. 이 시기 이전의 예이츠는 힘이 부족한 것처럼 보인다. 예이츠시는 본질적으로 고전적인 회화적 형상성을 처음부터 보이나 상징적 특정이 가미되면서 시는 더욱 깊어진다. 예이츠 시의 또 다른 특성은 추상성이다. 이 특성은 예이츠가 의도적으로 시도했다기보다 선구적인 그의 기질이 이런 시를 만들게 했다고 보인다. 추상주의 미술은 아직 등장하지 않았으나, 예이츠는 “추상”이라는 용어를 종종 사용한다. 이러한 회화와 시 읽기에서 다루어지는 작품과 작가는 들라크루와(Delacroix)와 예이츠, 예이츠와 셰익스피어, 「레다와 백조」(Leda and the Swan)와 「비너스와 아도니스」(Venus and Adonis), 블래이크와 예이츠 및 「방울 달린 모자」(The Cap and Bells,) 귀스타브 모로(Gustave Moreau)와 예이츠, 모로의 회화작품들, 「쿨 장원의 야생 백조」(The Wild Swans at Coole)와 후기인상파 화가들 및 모로, 예이츠와 화가 시인 컴밍스(e e cummings) 등이다. W. B. Yeats was born a son of a painter father, John Butler Yeats. While growing up, he had been under the influence of painters, as well as of poets; as a result, Yeats often mentions things that have to do with art and artists in his writing. In view of this background, the basis of the thesis of the present paper focuses on the painterly poeticizing tendency in the poetry of Yeats. And the most important influence on his early poetic practice was William Blake, who was a poet and painter. He did his own illustrations to his poetry. Yeats edited Blake twice, and wrote two essays, “Symbolism in Painting” (1898) and “The Symbolisn in Poetry” (1900). Through this work, Yeats grew stronger in constitution. Compared with his earlier poetry, the poetry after his contact with Blake grows starker but richer, due to the symbolic enhancement. Yeats’s poetry is Classical in nature, if we borrow the term from the history of art; and it deepens with symbolism. Another characteristic in Yeats is the abstraction that Altieri and Albright discuss; Yeats did not yet see Abstract art appear, and yet he created poetry of “Abstract art.” His efforts to create a new poetry were about to be born, when he died. c c cummings may or may not surprise Yeats. The reading of the poetry and the paintings is done through dealing with Delacroix and Yeats; Yeats and Shakespeare; “Leda and the Swan” and “Venus and Adonis”; Blake and Yeats and “The Cap and Bells”; Gustave Moreau and Yeats, Moreau’s paintings; “The Wild Swans at Coole” and Post-Impressionist Painters and Moreau; Yeats and e e cummings.

A micropapillary variant of urothelial carcinoma (MPC) is a distinct entity with an aggressive clinical course. It has a micropapillary configuration resembling that of ovarian papillary serous carcinoma. Its cytologic features have rarely been reported. We report a case of MPC detected by urine cytology. A woman aged 93 years presented with a chief complaint of macroscopic hematuria. Cytology of her voided urine showed clusters of malignant cells in a micropapillary configuration. Each tumor cell had a vacuolated cytoplasm, a high nuclear:cytoplasmic ratio, and irregular hyperchromatic nuclei. An ureteroscopic examination revealed exophytic sessile papillary masses extending from the left lateral wall to the anterolateral wall of the urinary bladder. A transurethral resection of the tumor was carried out. The tumor was characterized by delicate papillae with a thin, well-developed fibrovascular stromal core and numerous secondary micropapillae lined with small cuboidal cells containing uniform low- to intermediate-grade nuclei and occasional intracytoplasmic mucinous inclusions. These tumor cells infiltrated the muscle layers of the bladder, and lymphatic tumor emboli were frequently seen. Recognizing that the presence of MPC components in urinary cytology is important for distinguishing this lesion from low-grade papillary lesions and high-grade urothelial carcinomas can result in early detection and earlier treatment for an improved treatment outcome.

세계사 속의 5.18 -피털루, 잘리안왈라공원, 그리고 광주-

This paper aims to take a new look at the Gwangju massacre from the perspective of world history. To this end, we try to find common ground and differences between these three massacres by comparing the Gwangju massacre with the two other massacres caused by national violence, that is, the Petaloo massacre and the Jalianwala Bugh massacre. The Petaloo massacre refers to the accident that the military horsemen attacked tens of thousands of people who gathered at a Manchester square in August 1819 to demand parliamentary reform, and as a result, hundreds of people were killed or hurt. The Jalianwala Bugh massacre marks an incident in which many people were killed or injured when British troops fired indiscriminately in the process of forcibly disbanding a crowd driven by the New Year's celebration in April 1919. The two incidents were very similar in many respects to the Gwangju massacre. In other words, all three cases were caused by the state-violence, and people’s experiences and memories of the massacres have since served as an important driving power of the popular resistance movement. In the three cases, we can confirm that the ruling classes who carried out the violence at that time had a sense of strong contempt and hatred toward the people. Although the three incidents have something in common, there is a peculiarity only of the Gwangju uprising. That is the fact that the collective consciousness of ‘shame’ of those who witnessed and experienced the massacre in Gwangju in 1980 has since shaped a moral sense of collective mentalité toward political and social reforms, which has led the younger generation from the region to take the lead in the democratic movements in Korea. Through their participation and dedication, the Gwangju uprising was regarded as a national symbol of resistance to dictatorship, and has made the biggest contribution to the Korean democratic movement. This is the peculiarity of the Gwangju uprising. 이 논문은 세계사의 시각에서 광주학살을 새롭게 살피는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 국가 폭력에 의해 빚어진 다른 두 학살(피털루 학살 및 잘리안왈라 학살)과 광주를 서로 비교해 공통점과 차이점을 찾으려고 한다. 피털루 학살은 1819년 8월 맨체스터의 한 광장에 의회 개혁을 요구하며 운집한 수 만 명의 군중을 군 기마병이 공격 수백 명의 사상자가 발생한 학살을 가리킨다. 잘리안왈라 학살은 1919년 4월 신년맞이 축제에 몰린 군중을 영국군이 강제로 해산하는 과정에서 무차별 사격을 가해 많은 사람들이 죽거나 다친 사건을 뜻한다. 두 사건은 전개과정이 광주학살과 여러 가지 점에서 비슷하다. 즉, 이 세 사건은 모두 국가에 의한 폭력으로 빚어졌고, 그 학살의 경험과 기억이 그 후 민중의 저항운동의 중요한 동력으로 작용했다는 점에서 공통점을 갖는다. 세 사건에서 우리는 당시 폭력을 감행한 지배세력이 민중에 대한 멸시감과 강한 증오심을 가지고 있었음을 확인할 수 있다. 세 사건이 공통점을 가지고 있지만, 광주항쟁만이 가진 특이성이 있다. 그것은 1980년 광주에서 그 학살과 그에 대한 항쟁을 목격하고 경험한 사람들이 가졌던 집단적 부끄러움이 그 이후 사회변혁을 향한 도덕적 집단의식을 형성했으며, 이 집단의식이 그 후 이 지역 출신 젊은 세대가 한국 민주화운동에 주도적으로 함여하게 되었다는 사실이다. 이들의 참여와 헌신을 통해서 광주항쟁은 전국적으로 독재권력에 대한 저항의 상징으로 받아들여졌고, 그 이후 한국 민주화운동에 가장 커다란 기여를 했던 것이다.

This research was conducted to find out the club head and wrist movement of a professional golfer during the down-swing phase and how his or her wrist angle varied according to the wrist movement. The conclusions drawn from this research are as follows: 1.The wrist and club head showed the typical whip-like motion. 2.During the early stage of the down-swing the wrist displayed maximum acceleration, but decreased before the mid-point of the down-swing where the club becomes parallel with the ground surface. 3.The deceleration effect released the wrist which accelerated the club head speed. 4.The club head displayed maximum acceleration at the, mid-point of the down-swing and displaved maximum speed 0.025 second prior to impact.
