Major cardiovascular complications of diabetes are coronary atherosclerosis, diabetic dilated cardiomyopathy, autonomic neuropathy and those are major causes of morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. Gated blood pool heart scan is noninvasive and useful method for evaluation of functional status of heart in diabetics. We evaluated 52 patients with diabetes and divided 3 groups. Group 1 were 11 patients without proteinuria or with proteinuria less than 550mng during 24 hours. Group 2 were 9 patients with proteinuria more than 550mg during 24 hours and group 3 were 32 patients with endstage renal diasese due to diabetes. We performed 99mTc-HSA cardiac gated blood pool scan and used left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF), peak ejection rate(PEF) to indices of LV systolic function and peak filling rate(PER) to index of LV diastolic function. The results were follows : 1) LVEF, PER were significantly lower in diabetics with ESRD than diabetics without ESRD, but there were no significant difference between normal controls and diabetics without ESRD 2) PFR was significantly lower in diabetics than normal controls, but there were no significant differences in diabetics with or without nephropathy. 3) There were negative correlation between PER, PFR and duration of diabetes. On the basis of results, PFR is a LV functional index of GBPS which can disclose early change of LV dysfunction in patients with diabetes.

Background : Serum osteocalcin is synthesized by osteoblast and has been shown to be sensitive indicator of bone turnover inpatients with various metabolic bone disease. In renal osteodystrophy, serum osteocalcin is elevated due to decreased renal clearance and elevated level of PTH. This study was done to evaluate the usefulness of serum osteocalcin as a marker of bone metabolism and the correlation with other biochemical markers of bone metabolism. Methods : We measured serum osteocalcin, calcium, phosphorus, ALP(alkaline phosphatase) and PTH(parathyroid hormone) in 37 patients with end stage renal disease on hemodialysis. Osteocalcin was determined by radioimmunoassay and PTH was determined by radioimmunometric assay. Results : 1) The mean level of serum osteocalcin in ESRD patients was 233.8± 218.2ng/ml which was significantly higher than that of controls(p<0.0001). 2) The mean level of serum PTH in ESRD patients was 40.5± 43.8pg/ml was significantly higher than that of controls(p<0.005). 3) There was a significant positive correlation between the level of serum PTH, ALP and the level of serum osteocalcin in ESRD patients. 4) By using multiple regression, PTH is most reliable factor that affect to elevated level of serum osteocalcin ( beta coefficient = 0.687, Sig T<0.05). Conclusion : Serum osteocalcin as a marker of bone metabolism in ESRD patients is more useful than other biochemical marker such as serum calcium, phosphorus, ALP and PTH is a most reliable factor that affect to elevated level of serum osteocalin.

본 연구보고서는 기부사용내역 불투명성 등으로 인해 감소 추세에 있는 기부금의 감소문제를 분석하고 이를 해결하기 위한 방안을 모색함. 연구의 목적은 Block Chain을 활용하여 기존의 기부시스템 개 선 및 새로운 기부시스템 도입에 있음. 기부문화 활성화를 위해서는 기부금 사용에 대한 신뢰성 확보가 필수적. 따라서 기부금 사용내역을 투명하게 관리하는 시스템이 필요함. 이를 위해 블록체인을 기반으로 한 새로운 기부시스템(New Donation System) 연구를 진행하였음. 새로운 기부시스템이 구축되기 위해서는 기부자,기부단체,정부가 서로 연계하여 블록체인을 기반으로 한 기부코인을 도입하고 이를 활용하는 금융 메커니즘의 적용이 필요함. 기부코인을 활용한 새로운 기부시스템이 도입된다면 우리나라의 기부시스템은 기존보다 진일보할 것이며 기부문화도 재활성화될 것으로 기대함.

<P>Heat transported from deep within Earth's crust can be used to generate electricity or provide direct heating by circulating fluid through permeable fracture networks in hot rock. Because naturally permeable systems are rare, enhanced geothermal system (EGS) technology stimulates the creation of permeable pathways in otherwise impermeable rock by means of the injection of water under high pressure, creating new fractures and causing preexisting fractures to open. But several EGS projects have encountered problems of induced seismicity, particularly the moment magnitude (<I>M</I><SUB>w</SUB>) 5.5 earthquake in 2017 that occurred near an EGS drill site in Pohang, Republic of Korea (South Korea). Here we explore the implications of, and derive lessons from, the Pohang experience. The Pohang earthquake provides unequivocal evidence that EGS stimulation can trigger large earthquakes that rupture beyond the stimulated volume and disproves the hypothesis that the maximum earthquake magnitude is governed by the volume of injected fluids. Because that hypothesis tacitly underpins hazard-based methods used for managing induced seismicity, those methods must be revised and based on considerations of risk.</P>

From the dried flower-buds of Syzygium aromaticum Merr. et Perry (Myrtaceae), seven compounds, i.e., eugenol (1), oleanolic acid (2), kaempferol 7-O-metylether (3), 3,3`,4-tri-O-methylellagic acid (4), maslinic acid (5), β-sitosterol-3-O-glucoside (6), and isorhamnetin 3-O-glucoside (7) were isolated. Compound 1 showed cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitory activity.

A mixlure of cerebrosldes, called poke-weed cerebrosldes, was purified from Phytoluccae Radix (Phytolaccaceac) and characterized as I-O-B-D-glucopyranosides of phytosphingosine type ceramides comprised of a common long chain base (2S,3S,4R,8Z)-2-amino-8-octadecene-1,3,4-trlol and fatty acids. The fatty acyl chain of ceramide moieties was determined as (2R)-2-hydroxypentacosanoic acid, (2R)-2-hydroxylignoceric acid, (2R)-2-hydroxybehenic acid. (2R)-2-hydroxypalmitic acid, and palmltic acld. The poke weed cerebroside inhlbited the cyclooxygenase-2 dependent phase of prostaglandin D_(2) generation in bone marrow-derived mast cells in a concentration dependent manner with an IC_(30) of 6.2 ㎍/ml.

Carbon dioxide capture and sequestration (CCS) is a promising alternative for reduction of greenhouse gas emission. However, injected CO2 in deep formation has potential to leak into a shallow aquifer. Thus, although it is challenging, development of detection technologies in a shallow aquifer region is essential to assure the long term safety of a CCS project. Recently, field scale experiments were carried out around the world to identify CO2 leakage and to investigate effects on groundwater quality in shallow aquifers. From the literature, 8 controlled CO2 release test sites and 9 experimental cases were identified. In those sites, CO2 was artificially injected around the shallow aquifer region as CO2-infused groundwater phase or gas phase for identifying environmental effects caused by CO2 injection. This paper reviews the hydraulic heterogeneity, mineral compositions, monitoring systems, and environmental parameters required for leakage detection at each site. For constructing a controlled test bed, inclined wells, horizontal wells, and multiple injection wells were identified as reliable injection components. It was also identified that the injected CO2 migration and its effects were monitored through the constructed monitoring networks. The previous operation cases show that continuous monitoring of pH, electrical conductivity (EC), Ca and Mg concentrations is the most basic and important factor for leakage detection. Trace elements and isotopes were also widely used to determine the CO2 leakage. The Korea CO2 Storage Environmental Management (K-COSEM) research center is going to construct an environmental impact test (EIT) facility for developing CO2 leakage detection methods in a shallow aquifer region in Korea. The challenging issues will include the fate and transport of CO2 from the fractured zone to the saturated zone and to the unsaturated soil. Based on the lessons learned from the previous tests, environmental monitoring technologies will be developed through the analysis of the time series data of hydrogeochemical parameters for the planned EIT facility in Korea.
Design Modification of Marine Turning Gear Based on Spur Planetary Gear

A marine turning gear controls the position of the piston-crank mechanism by rotating the flywheel of the marine engine at a low speed, which is the main auxiliary machine that enables the disassembly and maintenance of the engine. In this study, the safety factor for surface durability and tooth bending strength was improved by the design modification of the marine turning gear based on the spur planetary gear. Angular velocity, torque, and efficiency of the turning gear were measured using a reliability evaluation tester, and a multibody dynamics model for analysis corresponding to the test results was developed. Finally, it was confirmed that the design improvements improved the tooth surface damage of the sun gear in the 3rd reduction stage.
