Objective: To investigate the vasodilatory effect of Sipjeondaebo-tang by inhibiting RhoA activity in vascular cells during cold exposure. Methods: Human vascular endothelial cells and pericytes were pretreated with Sipjeondaebo-tang for 30 min, followed by incubation at 37 ℃ (control) or 25 ℃ (cold exposure) for 30 min. Activation of endothelin-1-mediated RhoA in pericytes was assessed by pretreating the cells with Sipjeondaebo-tang for 30 min, followed by incubation with endothelin-1 at 37 ℃ for 30 min. Western blotting was performed to measure the expression of active RhoA. Endothelin-1 and nitric oxide release from endothelial cells was examined with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. The formation of stress fibers and focal adhesion complexes was analyzed by immunocytochemistry. Results: Cold treatment activated RhoA in both pericytes and vascular endothelial cells, whereas Sipjeondaebo-tang treatment inhibited this activation. Sipjeondaebo-tang treatment also reversed the cold-mediated production of endothelin-1 and nitric oxide. Cold exposure promoted the formation of stress fibers and focal adhesion complexes by increasing the expression of phospho-focal adhesion complex kinase, whereas Sipjeondaebo-tang treatment suppressed this response. Conclusions: These findings suggested that Sipjeondaebo-tang inhibits cold-induced RhoA activation and its related pathway components, including endothelin-1 and nitric oxide, in vascular cells. Therefore, Sipjeondaebo-tang could be beneficial for the treatment of Raynaud’s phenomenon.

To restore visual sensation of blind patients, we have proposed a fully implantable retinal prosthesis comprising an three dimensionally (3D) stacked retinal chip for transforming optical signal to electrical signal, a flexible cable with stimulus electrode array for stimulating retina cells, and coupling coils for power transmission. The 3D stacked retinal chip is consisted of several LSI chips such as photodetector, signal processing circuit, and stimulus current generator. They are vertically stacked and electrically connected using 3D integration technology. Our retinal prosthesis has a small size and lightweight with high resolution, therefore it could increase the patients` quality of life (QOL). For realizing the fully implantable retinal prosthesis, we developed a retinal prosthesis module comprising a retinal prosthesis chip and a flexible cable with stimulus electrode array for generating optimal stimulus current. In this study, we used a 2D retinal chip as a prototype retinal prosthesis chip. We fabricated the polymide-based flexible cable of $20{\mu}m$ thickness where 16 channels Pt stimulus electrode array was formed in the cable. Pt electrode has an impedance of $9.9k{\Omega}$ at 400Hz frequency. The retinal prosthesis chip was mounted on the flexible cable by an epoxy and electrically connected by Au wire. The retinal prosthesis chip was cappted by a silicone to pretect from corrosive environments in an eyeball. Then, the fabricated retinal prosthesis module was implanted into an eyeball of a rabbit. We successfully recorded electrically evoked potential (EEP) elicited from the rabbit brain by the current stimulation supplied from the implanted retinal prosthesis module. EEP amplitude was increased linearly with illumination intensity and irradiation time of incident light. The retinal prosthesis chip was well functioned after implanting into the eyeball of the rabbit.

In the oriental medicine, the biological mechanism and pathogenic change have been based on the meridian. A Liver channel of those belong to the wood in the five element system, the Leg channel of the twelve primary channels, Absolute Yin(厥陰) in the three Yin channels and connect with Liver organ. Through the study on a liver channel, the results were as follows. Leg Absolute Yin is indicated for disease affecting the lower abdomen, uro-genital system, knee and thigh. Symptons associated with mind regulation system : hypochondria, a feeling of restlessness and the deficiency of Liver Yin. Symptons associated with disease of Absolute Yin.

A Case of Reversible Parkinsonism Induced by Valproate in a Patient with Bipolar Disorder Kang-Uk Le, MD, PhD The author reports a case of reversible parkinsonism induced by valproate. The patient (61 years old male) with bipolar disorder developed typical parkinsonism from the initial period of valproate administration (dose:1500 mg, serum level:108.1 ug/mL)and disappeared rapidly after discontinuation of valproate. In psychiatric conditions such as bipolar disorder or other psychotic illnes, the possibility that the extrapyramidal sympoms be induced by valproate should be taken into careful consideration. In that case, carbamazepine can be recomended as a substitute medication. (Korean J Psychopharmacol 2004 ;15(1):107-111)
선진국 사례 벤치마킹을 통한 건설공사 사후평가 성과분석 체계 개발

Development of social overhead capital (SOC) requires huge national finance, and performance issues such as cost-efficiency, safety, and environment have been constantly raised. However, currently each construction client has limited access to its own projects’ performance without analytic methodology for industry-level comparisons and benchmarking for improvement. To overcome this problem, this study proposes a comprehensive performance analysis framework for post-evaluation of large-scale construction projects. To this end, this study performed a case study of advanced countries (the U.S., the U.K. and Japan) and consultation with related experts to develop a tailored performance analysis framework for the Post- Construction Evaluation and Management system in Korea. The developed framework covers three categories (project performance, project efficiency, and ripple effect), nine areas (cost, schedule, change, safety, quality, demand, benefit-cost ratio, civil complaint, and defect), and 31 detailed metrics. Using industry-level project performance database and statistical techniques, the proposed framework can be used not only to diagnose excellent and unsatisfactory performance areas for completed construction projects, but also to provide reference data for future similar projects. This study can contribute to the improvement of clients’ performance management practices and effectiveness of construction projects.
중국인 유학생의 지각된 차별감과 두려움이 대학생활만족에 미치는 영향 : 한국어능력의 조절효과를 중심으로

본 연구는 한국의 대학에 유학하고 있는 중국인 유학생들이 지각하는 차별감과 두려움이 대학생활만족에미치는 영향을 확인하고 학생들의 한국어능력이 이들 간의 관계에서 조절효과를 나타내는지 검증하고자 수행되었다. 연구를 위해 한국의 대학에 재학하고 있는 중국인 유학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하여, 24세 이하의 학생들로부터 수집된 203명의 응답 자료를 통계분석 프로그램 SPSS 22.0으로 분석하였다. 연구의 결과를 살펴보면 첫째, 유학생의 지각된 차별감과 두려움은 모두 대학생활만족에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 유학생의 지각된 차별감과 두려움이 대학생활만족에 미치는 영향 관계에서 한국어능력이 부정적영향을 완화하는 데 유의한 조절효과를 나타냈다. 본 연구의 결과는 중국인 유학생들의 대학생활만족 수준을높이기 위해 일차적으로 유학생들의 지각하는 차별감의 해소 및 두려움 완화가 중요한 요소이며, 지각된 차별감과 두려움으로 인해 대학생활만족 수준이 낮아지는 것을 완화하는 효과적인 방법으로 한국어능력 향상이 필요함을 시사한다. 이를 바탕으로 중국인뿐만 아니라 외국인 유학생들이 대학생활만족을 통해 한국 사회에 성공적으로 적응하고, 다문화사회의 건강한 구성원으로서 성장할 수 있도록 정서적·심리적 관리와 함께 한국어능력 제고의 필요성을 제안하였다. This study was conducted to confirm the effect of perceived discrimination and fear of Chinese international students studying at Korean universities on college life satisfaction and to verify whether students' Korean language skills have a moderating effect in their relationship. For the study, a survey was conducted on Chinese international students enrolled in Korean universities, and 203 response data collected from students under the age of 24 were analyzed with the SPSS 22.0 statistical program. As the results of the study, first, it was confirmed that both perceived discrimination and fear negatively impacted college life satisfaction among international students. Second, a significant moderating effect of Korean language ability was confirmed in the relationship between perceived discrimination and fear of international students on college life satisfaction. The results of this study suggest that in order to increase the level of satisfaction with college life by Chinese international students, the resolution of perceived discrimination and fear of international students are important factors, and that it is necessary to improve Korean language skills as a way to alleviate the decline in college life satisfaction due to perceived discrimination and fear. Based on this, it was proposed that both Chinese and other international students should enhance their emotional and psychological well-being, along with their Korean language skills, to successfully adapt to Korean society and become healthy members of a multicultural community through increased college life satisfaction
