<P>Electrically driven hybrid light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) consisting of quantum dots, wires, and wells based on the nanometer‐sized pyramid GaN structure are reported by Taek Kim, Yong‐Hoon Cho, and co‐workers on page 5364. The LEDs exhibit mixed emissions from InGaN quantum dots, wires, and wells formed at the tops, edges, and sidewalls of the pyramids, respectively. The hybrid LEDs containing low‐dimensional quantum structures provide a broad‐band, highly efficient visible lighting source. </P>
제주에서 플러그묘의 육묘일수가 양배추 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향

양배추 플러그 육묘시 적정 육묘일수를 구명하기 위하여 시험을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 플러그묘가 육묘일수에 관계없이 노지육묘묘에 비해 정식시 뿌리의 손상이 적어 활착율이 높았다. 2. 정식초기에는 대묘를 정식한 노지육묘묘의 초장이 길었으나 정식 후 시간이 경과 할수록 플러그묘의 초장이 길어졌다. 3. 2월 수확시 상품수량이 가장 많았으며 25, 30일 플러그묘인 경우 구중은 차이를 보이고 있지 않지만 열구율이 적어 상품 수량이 많았으며 노지 육묘묘에 비해 각각 29.1%, 35.6%의 증수효과를 나타냈다. This experiment was carried out to determine the optimum age of transplant and plugseedlings on plant growth and marketable yields of cabbage in Cheju Island. Plugseedlings raised cabbages taking root rates were compared with outdoor seedling rates after planting. Shortly after planting, the plant height of large outdoor seedlings increased. However, with the passage of time after planting, the plant height of plugseedlings was greater than that of outdoor seedlings. Marketable yields were greatest at February harvest. There was no difference between 25 and 30 days old plugseedlings for head weight and head cracking rates decreased. The yields of 25 and 30 days old plugseedlings increased by 29.1% and 35.6%, respectively, compared to outdoor seedlings.
ZnSe 단결정에 대한 열자극 발광과 열자극 전류의 동시측정

두 종류의 ZnSe 분말을 사용하여 sublimation 방법으로 성장한 ZnSe 단결정(as grown)에 대하여 TSC와 TSL을 동시 측정하였으며, PL과 DLTS를 측정하였다. PL 측정으로 I_1, I_2와 DAP 발광을 관측하였으며 DLTS에 의한 깊은준위를 관측하였다. TSL과 TSC의 동시 측정으로부터 얻은 그로우 곡선을 점근 해법으로 분해하여 세개의 준위를 얻었으며 그들의 활성화에너지값은 0.22 eV, 0.30 eV, 0.39 eV이었다. PL spectrum과 열자극 완화과정의 동시 측정 결과로부터 0.22 eV 근방에 impurity에 의한 주게준위와 native defect에 의한 받게준위가 각각 전도대의 아래와 가전자대의 위에 존재하는 것으로 판명되었다. DLTS 측정과 동시측정 결과로부터 0.30 eV와 0.39 eV의 준위는 V_se vacancy와 관련되는 주게 준위임을 알았다. Simultaneous measurements of TSL were carried out on ZnSe single crystals grown by high pressure Bridgman technique and the PL and DLTS signals were observed. Photoluminescence spectrum at 10 K on the ZnSe crystal reveals I_1 and I_2 lines, as well as DAP emission line. DLTS spectrum on the ZnSe crystal show electron trap at 0.33 eV. Two TSC and TSL peaks were observed near 215 K and 230 K, which are identified as having originated from two donor trap levels at 0.30 eV and 0.39 eV, respectively, below the bottom of the conduction band. We also observed single TSL and TSC peaks at 150 K which were identified as having originated from a donor and acceptor trap levels at about 0.22 eV below the conduction band and over the top of the valence band, respectively.

This paper describes an unscented Kalman filter approach to estimate the bias in magnetic field measurements. A microelectromechanical systems attitude heading reference system (MEMS AHRS) was used to measure the magnetic field, together with the acceleration and angular rate. A magnetic field is usually used for yaw detection, while the acceleration serves to detect the roll and pitch. Magnetic field measurements are vulnerable to distortion due to hard-iron effect and soft-iron effect. The bias in the measurement accounts for the hard-iron effect, and this paper focuses on an approach to estimate this bias. The proposed method is compared with other methods through experiments that implement the navigation of an underwater robot using an AHRS and Doppler velocity log. The results verify that the compensation of the bias by the proposed method improves the navigation performance more than or comparable to the compensation by other methods.

<P>The immoderate growth of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) formed at the interface of a solder metal and the substrate during soldering can, degrade the mechanical properties and reliability of a solder joint in electronic packaging. Therefore, it is critical to control IMC growth at the solder joints between the solder and the substrate. In this study, we investigated the control of interfacial reactions and IMC growth by the layer-by-layer transfer of graphene during the reflow process at the interface between Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu (in wt %) lead-free solder and Cu. As the number of graphene layers transferred onto the surface of the Cu substrate increased, the thickness of the total IMC (Cu6Sn5 and Cu3Sn) layer decreased. After 10 repetitions of the reflow process for 50 s above 217 degrees C, the melting temperature of Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu, with a peak temperature of 250 degrees C, the increase in thickness of the total IMC layer-at the interface with multiple layers of graphene was decreased by more than 20% compared to that at the interface of bare Cu without graphene. Furthermore, the average diameter of the Cu6Sn5 scallops at the interface with multiple layers of graphene was smaller than that at the interface without graphene., Despite 10 repetitions of the reflow process, the growth of Cu3Sn at the interface with multiple layers of graphene was suppressed by more than 20% compared with that at the interface without graphene. The multiple layers of graphene at the interface between the solder metal and the Cu substrate hindered the diffusion of Cu atoms from the Cu substrate and suppressed the reactions between Cu and Sn in the solder. Thus, the multiple layers of graphene transferred at the interface between dissimilar metals can control the interfacial reaction and IMC growth occurring at the joining interface.</P>
270-W 15-kHz MOPA System Based on Side-pumped Rod-type Nd:YAG Gain Modules

We have developed a 270-W 15-kHz MOPA system based on side-pumped rod-type Nd:YAG gain modules. The master oscillator is a 3-W 15-kHz TEM00 Nd:YVO4 laser with a pulse duration of 30 ns. To preserve the high beam quality during the amplification, we use image relay and polarization rotation which can simultaneously compensate for thermal lensing and thermal birefringence generated in the rod-type gain modules. After the amplification to 270 W with six rod-type gain modules, the beam quality factor (M2) of the amplified laser beam is 5-10, and the pulse duration is maintained at 30 ns.

The causes of osteolytic lesions found in radiological examinations are not quite certain. Therefore, to determine the appropriate treatment method, various approaches and analyzes are required to find the real cause. Hyperparathyroidism is one of the diseases which forms osteolytic bone lesions so-called brown tumor. A 55-year-old woman who had painful osteolytic bone lesions in both hip joint areas was diagnosed as parathyroid carcinoma after serial work-up. She underwent parathyroidectomy and follow-up imaging showed a decrease in brown tumor size and bone consolidation in the subchondral bone destruction area. Proper evaluation of osteolytic bone lesions helps to avoid unnecessary operative treatments and the first choice for the treatment of osteolytic bone lesions caused by parathyroid carcinoma is parathyroidectomy.
