Interleukin-2 (IL-2) induces T cell proliferation in an autocrine manner and provides a means by which antigen triggered T cells can be clonally expanded in vitro. During the following activation, the activity of IL-2 is mediated by specific high affinity IL-2 binding membrane receptors which are expressed shortly after activation. In this process, a 42 KD-fragment (soluble IL-2R) is continuously cleaved off and circulates as a soluble marker of T lymphocyte activation. Elevated level of soluble IL-2R has been identified in the serum of patients with malignant autoimmune and allergic disorders, systemic parasitic infection, undergoing graft versus host disease, acute or chronic lymphocytic leukemia and HIV-infection. ADA (adenosine deaminase) completes the process of differentiation of T cell and is essential for progression of T cell maturation. Therefore level of ADA is to correlated with magnitude of T cell immune response. The fact that expression of sIL-2R and ADA activity increases in peripheral blood T-lymphocytes of patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis suggests that T cell activation might have a major role in the pathogenesis of pulmonary tuberculosis. In order to evaluate the T cell immune response in pulmonary tuberculosis, we measured the serum concentration of sIL-2R and ADA activity in 17 patients with current pulmonary tuberculosis, 10 chronic inactive pulmonary tuberculosis, 10 as normal controls. (1) Current pulmonary tuberculosis had significantly higher levels of sIL-2R (237.24±95.47)when compared with those of inactive tuberculosis (78.6±11.06). and the control (68.17±15.4) group. (2) ADA activity in current pulmonary tuberculosis was significantly increased (34.41±20.63) when compared with those of inactive tuberculosis (24.7±14.36) and control (17.65± 5.94) group. (3) There was good correlation between sIL-2R concentration and ADA activity in serum in current pulmonary tuberculosis group. (4) sIL-2R concentration and ADA activity was decreased significantly 6 months after anti-tuberculosis drug medication. In conclusion, sIL-2R concentration and ADA activity in serum in current pulmonary tuberculosis group was increased when compared with those of inactive pulmonary tuberculosis and the control group. By the way, T cell mediated immune response was enhanced in current pulmonary tuberculosis, but in inactive chronic pulmonary tuberculosis who had treated by antituberculosis drug medication, the concentration of sIL-2R and ADA activity was nearly normal.

The purpose of this study are to develop a SDSS (Spatial Decision Support System) that can incorporate diverse opinions of stakeholders related the designation of protected areas (PA), and to employ the model for the readjustment of the boundary line of the Jirisan National Park of Korea. The SDSS would lead to more rational and less controversial decision-making during the expansion or removal of PA in Korea. Research methods are as follows. Firstly, to select evaluation criteria for SDSS for PA designation by using expert interview and literature survey. Secondly, to measure their preferences on the designation of additional PA or the removal of a part of PA based on the opinions of various stakeholders such as local residents, environmental groups, or public officials. Thirdly, to produce conservation priority maps based on a multi-criteria decision making technique. The SDSS would be used to rational decision making for the expansion of PA or the release of a certain part of PA by reflecting diverse preferences on biodiversity conservation and economic interest of residents. The visualization of conservation priority maps would also increase the efficiency of such decision making processes. The evaluation criteria for the expansion of PA for biodiversity conservation includes vegetation conservation value, wildlife conservation value, and the habitats of key species. The evaluation criteria for the removal of PA includes the proximity to roads and the boundary of PA, land use types, and conservation zoning of the PA. Preference weights are based on data collected from the Jirisan National Park. Both the conservation priority and removal priority maps are based on land parcels so that property rights of all parcels would be correctly represented.

Notes on bird species newly recorded in Korea

A total of 527 species of birds have been recorded in Korea. We summarize the records of three genera and six species that have been newly reported in Korea, discovered through the avian monitoring programs carried out by The National Institute of Biological Resources from 2013 to 2016. These six newly recorded species are; Ring-necked Duck (Aythya collaris), Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis), Bufflehead (Bucephala albeola), Black-winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus), Mongolian Lark (Melanocorypha mongolica) and Crested Myna (Acridotheres cristatellus). One Ring-necked Duck was observed on March 23, 2014 in Jungrangcheon Stream. One male Lesser Scaup was recorded on February 24, 2014 in Gyeongpoho Lagoon. A male bufflehead was first seen in Yeongrangho Lagoon on January 26, 2013. The Black-winged Kite was first observed on January 23, 2013 at the Gangseo Wetland Ecological Park. One Mongolian Lark was also recorded on May 11, 2016 and May 12, 2017 in Marado Island. The Crested Myna was first observed on April 20, 2016 in Seomando, Island.

The rs196952262 Polymorphism of the AGPAT5 Gene is Associated with Meat Quality in Berkshire Pigs

High-quality meat is of great economic importance to the pig industry. The 1-acylglycerol-3- phosphate-O-acyltransferase 5 (AGPAT5) enzyme converts lysophosphatidic acid to phosphatidic acid in the mitochondrial membrane. In this study, we found that the porcine AGPAT5 gene was highly expressed in muscle tissue, influencing meat characteristics, and we also identified a non-synonymous single-nucleotide polymorphism (nsSNP) (rs196952262, c.673 A>G) in the gene, associated with a change of isoleucine 225 to valine. The presence of this nsSNP was significantly associated with meat color (lightness), lower cooking loss, and lower carcass temperatures 1, 4, and 12 h after slaughter (items T1, T4, and T12 on the recognized quality scale, respectively), and tended to increase backfat thickness and the waterholding capacity. These results suggest that nsSNP (c.673A>G) of the AGPAT5 gene is a potential genetic marker of high meat quality in pigs.

菜豆 在來種 特性에 關한 硏究 : 第Ⅰ報 生態型과 成熱群의 分類 Ⅰ. Classifications of ecotypes and maturity groups

菜豆의 在來種特性을 調査하여 人工交配및 遺傳硏究의 參考에 供하고자 우리 고장의 菜豆在來種을 蒐集하고 그들의 生態型과 成熱群을 分類한바 그結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 1. 開花日數短縮率은 I(5以下)‥2,176, II(5∼10), III(10以上)‥13.492의 3階級으로 分類되었고 2. 結實日數短縮率은 a(1以下)는 없고 b(1∼4), c(4以上)‥4.303의 2階級으로 分類되었으며 3. 生育日數短縮率은 1. (3以下)‥1.000 2(3∼7), 3(7以上)‥8.785의 3階級으로 分類되었다. 4. 供試品種의 生態型은 Ib₁, IIb₁, IIb₂, IIIb₁그리고 IIIc₃의 5生態型에 屬했으며 所屬品種은 各各 No. ⑧,⑥,③ㆍ④ㆍ⑤ㆍ⑦ㆍ⑨,②,①이었다. 5. 成熱群은 生育日數의 長短에 따라서 I, II, III, IV, V의 5個群으로 分類되었으나 所屬品種은 I(極早生)‥No.②,③,④,⑤,⑥,⑦,⑨, II(早生) No.⑧, V(極晩生) No.①이었다. 6. 生態型과 成熱群과의 關係는 相關關係를 볼수 없었고 (γ=0.335) 7. 生育日數短縮率과 生態型, 開花日數및 生育日數와 成熱群, 結實日數및 開花期間과 成熱群間에 높은 正의 相關關係가 있고 關係生育日數와 成熱群사이에는 (-)의 높은 相關關係가 存在하였다. Experiments were carried out to classify the ecotypes and maturity groups for artificial crossing and hereditary study of local kidney bean varieties. Local kidney bean varieties used as the materials were 9 varieties, as shown in Table 1, collected from Chinju, Korea. These varieties were grown in the Experimental Farm, Chinju National Agriculture College, Korea. Seed sowing was conducted at 8 times from April 3 to July 18, at 15 day-intervals, in 1968. The classification methods of ecotypes and maturity groups applied in this study, and the results obtained are summarized as follows; 1. Ecotypes were classified from the standpoint of the shortened ratio of flowering dates, the shortened ratio of seed forming periods, and the shortened ratio of maturity dates as shown in Table A. All varieties were classified into 5 ecotypes of Ib₁, IIb₁, IIb₂, IIIb₁ and IIIc₃ symbols: So these local varieties were divided into Ib₁(No.⑧), IIb₁(No.⑥), IIb₂(No.③,④,⑤,⑦,⑨), IIIb₁(No.②), and IIIc₃(No.①), respectively (Table 3). 3. Durations from sowing to maturity were from 71 to 120 days in May sowing plots of all varieties. From the standpoint of the durations, maturity groups were classified into 5 groups from group I, extreme early, to group V, extreme late, but major varieties (No.②,③,④,⑤,⑥,⑦,⑨) belong to one maturity groups of I symbol (Table 4). 4. In this study, it was observed that there were little relations between ecotypes and maturity groups (Table 5), but there were some close relations between the ecotype and shortened ratio of maturity dates, and between the maturity groups and some characters in the growing and ripening process of the kidney bean varieties (Table 6).

박막 크로멜-알루멜 열전퇴형 교류-직류 변환기

A planar chromel-alumel multijunction ac-dc converter was fabricated on a LPCVD Si_(3)N_(4)/SiO_(2)/Si_(3)N_(4)-diaphragm, prepared by silicon bulk micromachining, which thermally isolated a bifilar evanohm-heater and the hot junctions of a chromel-alumel thermopile from the silicon substrate. The voltage responsivity, the ac-dc transfer error, and the fluctuation of the output thermoelectric voltage of the converter were investigated. The respective voltage responsivities in air and in a vacuum of the converter were about 3.16 mV/mW and 9.41 mV/mW. The ac-dc voltage and the current transfer errors in air were about ±1.5 ppm and ±0.7 ppm in a frequency range from 10 Hz to 10 kHz, respectively. The fluctuation of the output thermoelectric voltage from 5 seconds to 120 seconds after preheating in air for 5 seconds was about 0.06 % for a heater input of dc 1 V.

다형성 교모세포종에서 광범위 전적출술후 단기 재발된 치험 1예

Glioblasty/ma Multiforme(GBM) is the one of the most common malignant tumors in central nervous system(CNS). The incidence of the tumor is about 12% of all CNS tumors and about 50% of all intracranial tumors. Though the development of the microsurgical technique, radiosurgical technique, and chemotherapy works effectively, complete cure of the GBM has not been achieved. It has been known that the prognosis of GBM depends on the extent of surgical tumor removal, remained tumor volume, radiation dose, and chemotherapy. Not only patient's age but also tumor characteristics such as MRI enhancement, angiogenesis and necrosis are also very important prognostic factors. Authors experienced very aggressive GBM in aged woman, who received gross total tumor removal, but refused other therapeutic motalities postoperatively. Very rapid recurrence of GBM and global cerebral edema in aged woman should be considered fatal. This case demonstrates the effectiveness of aggressive removal and the limited usefulness of neurosurgical tools in GBM recurrence. Authors would suggest that the early diagnostic effort and the verified neurosurgical therapy for malignant tumor are still strongly requested to make better prognosis.

류마티스 관절염 환자에서 발생한 Mycobacterium intracellulare에 의한 관절염 1예

비정형 항산균에 의한 근골격계 감염은 매우 드물며, 진단이 지연되는 경우가 많다. 저자들은 류마티스 관절염환자에서 수차례 스테로이드 주사 후에 생긴 M. intracellulare에 의한 관절염을 진단하고 수술적 치료없이 약물 치료만으로 좋은 결과를 보인 예를 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. Nontuberculous mycobacteria are ubiquitous organisms that are frequently present in the water, soil and animal reservoirs. Nontuberculous mycobacterial infections of the musculoskeletal system are rare and usually associated with predisposing factors, such as prior joint disease, trauma, use of intraarticular or oral corticosteroids, or an immunocompromised state. A sixty five-year-old patient with rheumatoid arthritis was hospitalized due to swelling on the left wrist. M. intracellulare was cultured from the aspirated joint fluid. The patient was successfully treated with clarithromycin, ethambutol, and rifampin. We report this case with review, emphasizing high suspicion for nontuberculous mycobacterial infection in patients with predisposing risk factors.

정신분열병 환자의 살인에 관한 연구 : 가족내 살인과 비가족 살인의 비교연구

Sixty schizophrenia patients who committed homicide and detained after January 1, 1993 were divided in two groups, depending on whether their victim was a family member or not. Below conclusions were deduced from the comparison of the two groups in terms including demographic characteristics, onset and duration of illness, IQ score, suicidal attempts, history of alcohol/drug abuse or past crime, neuropsychiatric ward admission history, living circumstance, conflict with the victim, and adolescent conducting behavior. 1. More in the family homiciding patients (FHP) group lived alone due their unmarried, divorced, or separated marital status than those in the non-family homiciding patients (NFHP) group. More in the FHP group were in married state than those in NFHP group. 2. more in the NFHP group stayed alone apart from their fmily, while more in the FHP group lived with their family. 3. Those in the NFHP group show more frequent suicidal attempts than those in the FHP group, implying they have difficulties in the control of their impulsive behaviors. 4. To prevent the crime, it is essential for the government to practice the systematic support and care of the schizophrenia patients who are living alone, especially those without relative.

전력증폭기의 선형성 개선을 위한 바이어스 회로 설계

전력증폭기에 적용할 수 있는 바이어스 회로를 설계하고 분석하였다. Current mirror바이어스 회로에 다이오드와 인덕터, 캐패시터로 구성된 저역 통과 여파기를 연결하고, 입력 신호의 포락선을 검출하여 바이어스 전압을 조절함으로써 전력증폭기의 선형성을 향상시켰다. 이 회로를 800MHz대역에서 동작하는 GaAsHBT전력증폭기에 응용하였다. 전원 전압은 3.6V이고 컬렉터 전류가 22mA일 때, 전력부가효율은 40.5%였고 5dBc 이상의 IMD3 특성을 개선할 수 있었다. A bias circuit, which could be applied to power amplifier, was designed and analyzed Diode and LPF(low pass filter) with inductor and capacitor are added in current mirror bias circuit. Using predistortion technique, the envelope of input signal is detected to control bias voltage of power amplifier for high linearity. This bias circuit is applied in GaAs HBT power amplifier and simulated at 800MHz. When supply voltage was 3.6V and collector current was 22mA, PAE(power added efficiency) was 40.5% and IMD3(third-order intermodulation distortion) characteristic was improved more than 5dBc.
