      • A Study on the Functionality of Halophytes from Coast area of Jeollanam-do

        This study was undertaken to improve the perceived value of halophytes and contribute to the activity of the local economy by analyzing the antioxidant activity and mineral content of Suaeda japonica, Tetragonia tetragonoides, and Spergularia marina that grow wild on the mud flats and coastal areas. The total phenolic compound content found in each order is as follows: Suaeda japonica (3.674∼5.989 mg TAE/g dry wt.), Tetragonia tetragonoides (2.515∼4.471 mg TAE/g dry wt.), and Spergularia marina (2.450∼4.067 mg TAE/g dry wt.); DPPH radical scavenging and ABTS cation radical scavenging activities were also recorded in the same order. In the case of minerals, Iron(Fe) was relatively high in Suaeda japonica (960.1∼1,346.7 mg/kg), Manganese(Mn) in Tetragonia tetragonoides (197.1∼574.8 mg/kg), and Zinc(Zn) was relatively high in Spergularia marina (63.19∼216.56 mg/kg). It was confirmed that the mineral content of Suaeda japonica, Tetragonia tetragonoides, and Spergularia marina was significantly higher than that of Chinese cabbage, lettuce, leek, and spinach.

        자외선 (UVB) 노출 증가에 대한 피부암 위해도 예측 모델의 적용

        A decrease in stratospheric ozone probably caused by chloroflurocarbons (CFCs) emissions, has been observed large parts of the globe. It is generally accepted that if ozone levels in the stratosphere are depleted, greater amounts of shortwave ultraviolet radiation-B (UVB) will reach the earth's surface, resulting in increased incidence of nonmelanoma skin cancer. In this study, we evaluated several mathematical models, such as a power and an exponential model, and a geometric model considering the surface area of a human body part and ages for the prediction of skin cancer incidence caused by exposure to the UVB radiation. These models basically estimated the risk of skin cancer based on those measurements of the local ozone in stratosphere and UVB. Both were measured at a part of Seoul with a Dobson ozone spectrometer and Robertson-Berger UV Biometer for 1995. As a result, we calculated the point estimation applying a biological amplification factor (BAF), UVB radiation and other factors. We used a Monte-Carlo simulation technique with assumption on the distribution of each considered factor. The sensitivity analysis of model by there components conducted using Gaussian sensitivity method. The annual integral of UVB radiation was 2275 MED (minimal erythema dose)/yr. Also, an estimate of the annual amount of UVB reaching the earth's surface at a korea's latitude and altitude was 3328 MED/yr. The values of the radiation amplification factor (RAF) were ranged from 0.9 to 1.5 in Seoul. To give the effective factors required to model the prediction of skin cancer incidence caused by exposure to the UVB radiation in Korea, we studied the pros and cons of above mentioned models with the application of those parameters measured in Seoul, Korea.

      • 저먼 세퍼드에서 발생한 내측 갈고리돌기 유합부전을 컴퓨터 단층촬영술을 이용하여 진단한 증례

        A 4-year-old male German shepherd dog with reluctance to exercise, swelling of bilateral elbow joint and general depression was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. Swelling, alopecia and lichenification of bilateral elbow joint were observed on physical examination. Osteophytes, sclerosis and joint mouse of bilateral elbow joint were found on radiography. Deformation of medical coronoid process and soft tissue density swelling at caudal part of bilateral elbow joint were also observed on radiography. Computed tomography revealed fragmented medial coronoid process and osteophytes of bilateral elbow joint. Therefore this case was diagnosed as fragmented medical coronois process and degenerative joint disease.

        This study is about open and secondary level Home Economics Education which is applicable to field and which includes the characteristics, purpose and problems of each open education. secondary education and home economics education. Based on the ideology of open education, this study will identify the meaning of openness in terms of Home Economics Education reconstructing meaning. purpose, characteristics, curriculum paradigm and curriculum. The instructional model and module which use web, will be Presented as the results of the reconstruction works. The open instructional module in Home Economics Education, which will be operated on the web, is consisted of 1)setting the orientation of curriculum development, 2)instructional model development. 3)rebuilding the Home Economics Education curriculum 4)development of instructional modules and web-based materials and 5)construction of the web-site . Six instructional module begin with critical/emancipatory curriculum Paradigm in open Home Economics Education. use module as a unit of class management instead of 1 class. facilitates nest-type integration which is applied from open education keeping the nature of Home Economics Education. and focus on practical problem and problem solving through reconceptualization with dialectical perspective on individual, family and society.         Laser surface hardening is an effective technique used to improve the tribological properties and also to increase the service life of automobile components such as camshafts, crankshatfs, lorry brake drums and gears. High power CO_(2) lasers and Nd:YAG lasers are employed for localized hardening of materials and hence are of potential application in the automobile industries. The heat is conducted rapidly into the bulk of the specimen causing self-quenching to occur and the formation of martensitic structure In this investigation, the microstructrual features occurring in Nd:YAG laser hardening SM45C and STD_(11) steel are discussed with the use of optical microscopic and scanning electron microscopic analysis. Moreover, This paper describes the optimisation of the processing parameters for maximum hardened depth of SM54C and STD_(11) steel specimens of 4.5㎜, 10㎜ thickness by using CW Nd:YAG laser.

        Lesch-Nyhan 증후군 환아의 자해 예방 : A CASE REPORT

        Lesch-Nyhan 증후군은 purine의 대사장애를 보이는 질환이다. 신생아에서 대략 1:100,000 정도의 이환율을 보이는 X염색체 열성 유전 질환으로 남자에서 흔하며, purine의 대사에 관여하는 효소인 hypoxanthine guanine phospho ribosyl transferase(HGPRT)의 결손 또는 활성 감소 결과, 과도한 요산 형성 및 과요산혈증(hyperuricemia)이 일어난다. 이 질환은 임상적으로 정신지체, 무도증(choreoathetosis), 경련성 뇌성 마비, 심각한 자해 행위가 특징이다. 이 중 자해행위는 입술과 혀, 손가락을 깨무는 경우가 흔하고, 혀와 손가락이 완전히 절단될 수도 있다. 이 경우 자해로 인한 통증뿐 아니라, 상처 부위로의 2차 감염 및 연조직 결손으로 인한 심미성이 문제가 된다. 본 증례는, 상하악 유전치의 입술 깨물기 습관에 의해 하순이 심하게 손상된 Lesch-Nyhan 증후군 환아로서, mouth guard를 이용한 보존적인 방법과 소아정신과와의 협진을 통한 신경학적 약물치료로 자해에 의 한 손상을 방지하여, 단기간에 비교적 만족할 만한 결과를 얻었기에 이를 보고하는 바이다. Lesch-Nyhan syndrome is a rare disorder of purine metabolism, first described in 1964. The incidence is estimated to be 1:100,000 birth. It is an X-linked recessive disorder in which affected males have a virtually complete deficiency of the enzyme hypoxanthine guanine phosphorybosyl transferase(HGPT) . This enzyme deficiency gives rise to excessive uric acid production and consequent hyperuricemia. Lesch-Nyhan syndrome is clinically characterized by mental retardation, choreoathetosis, spastic cerebral palsy, and severe self-mutilation behavior. Patient with Lesch-Nyhan syndrome mostly bite their lip, tongue and finger. In severe cases, partial or total amputation of the lip and tongue is common. Self-inflicted bites are often further complicated by secondary infection to injuried site as well as pain. And tissue loss by biting results in esthetic problems. This report presents a Lesch-Nyhan syndrome patient with self-mutilation, who have a destruction of perioral tissue, especially the lower lip. He was treated successfully with soft mouth guard, psychological and pharmacological method.
