A Safe-haven Property of Cryptocurrencies: Evidence in Vietnam Stock Market During Pandemic Crisis

The study investigates the dynamic correlation of cryptocurrencies and equity in Vietnam and tests the safe-haven property of them from the perspective of the stock market in Vietnam during the pandemic crisis by applying the dynamic conditional correlation (DCC) GARCH model and regression with a dummy variable, respectively. This study employs time series data on the daily dataset from September 2014 to September 2021 with the focus on the two most popular cryptocurrencies - Bitcoin and Litecoin. The results show that the dynamic conditional correlations between cryptocurrencies and equity in Vietnam increased during the pandemic, however, in most periods, positive dynamic correlations often dominate. Besides, the regression results also indicate that Bitcoin and Litecoin act as weak safe-haven investments for stocks in Vietnam during the COVID-19 turmoil. They are more suitable for diversification purposes although the dynamic correlations between them and the stock index in Vietnam vary stronger during the pandemic crisis than before. The findings of this study suggest that in the period of pandemic crisis, cryptocurrencies are not concerned as effective safe-haven assets for stock in Vietnam. Instead, cryptocurrencies are only playing a potential role in diversification benefit in this economy.
Snail1 is stabilized by O-GlcNAc modification in hyperglycaemic condition

Protein O-phosphorylation often occurs reciprocally with O-GlcNAc modification and represents a regulatory principle for proteins. O-phosphorylation of serine by glycogen synthase kinase-3β on Snail1, a transcriptional repressor of E-cadherin and a key regulator of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) programme, results in its proteasomal degradation. We show that by suppressing O-phosphorylation-mediated degradation, O-GlcNAc at serine112 stabilizes Snail1 and thus increases its repressor function, which in turn attenuates E-cadherin mRNA expression. Hyperglycaemic condition enhances O-GlcNAc modification and initiates EMT by transcriptional suppression of E-cadherin through Snail1. Thus, dynamic reciprocal O-phosphorylation and O-GlcNAc modification of Snail1 constitute a molecular link between cellular glucose metabolism and the control of EMT.
Effects of seasonal variations on sediment-plume streaks from dredging operations

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>When mixtures of aggregates and water dredged from the seabed are discharged at the surface into the adjacent water from a barge, coarse sediments sink immediately and fine sediments are suspended forming a plume. Recently, elongated plumes of fine sediment were observed by satellites near a dredging location on the continental shelf. Such plume streaks were longer in certain conditions with seasonality than expected or reported previously. Therefore, the present work studied the appearance of sediment plume with field measurements and numerical simulations and explains the seasonally varying restoring force and thicknesses of the surface mixed layer resulting from the vertical density distribution near the surface, along with mixing by hydrodynamic process. The resulting mixtures, after vertical restoring and mixing with the surroundings, determine the horizontal transport of suspended sediments. A numerical model successfully reproduced and explained the results from field measurements and satellite images along with the seasonal variations.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Image captured by a satellite reported the unexpectedly long streaks of sediment plume from a dredging site. </LI> <LI> Elongations of plume depend on the seasonal variations of density differences between the mixtures and surface waters. </LI> <LI> While a long streak is observed, restoring force is too weak to sink the mixtures of sediment and water to the bottom. </LI> <LI> Seasonal variations of the surface mixed layer thickness significantly affect the development of the elongated plumes. </LI> </UL> </P>

저자들은 본원에서, 제대주위 피부종양으로 재발된 난소암 1예를 경험하였기에 간단한 문헌고찰과 함께 이에 보고하는 바이다. We present a case of recurrent cutaneous metastasis which origniated from an internal organ. The patient had been a 63 years old female who had had ovarian carcinoma stage III and total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingooophorectomy, partial omentectomy, pelvic lymphadenectomy and chemotherapy had been done. She presented a nodule measuring 1×1cm on her umbilical area. Histopathologic findings were consistent with metastatic papillary serous cystadeno-carcinoma and clinically it was associated with carcinoma of the ovary.
The effect of trapped charge on silicon nanowire pseudo-MOSFETs.

<P>The effects of organic molecules grafted on top of silicon nanowires are modeled as the oxide trap charges (Qot) and interface trap charges (Qit). The device investigated here is a pseudo-MOSFET with a thick bottom oxide (200 nm) and only a thin native oxide (5 nm) on top. With Qot = -5.0 x 10(11) cm(-2) and the U-shaped distribution of interface trap density (Dit) as a function of trap energy (Et), the structures are reproduced through the conventional technology computer aided design (TCAD) simulation tool, and the channel is imaginarily divided into several sections (5 x 5 regions) to apply the localized traps. The electrical parameters are extracted from the each part to quantitatively compare their effectiveness. The local position of the grafted molecules, modeled by these charges, is shown to result in strong variations in the relative change in the threshold voltage and subthreshold swing. These variations are explained by the surface depletion and scattering near the edges of the etched device and the series resistance effect.</P>

$quot;Preoperative serum samples were collected from 78 patients with pelvic masses. Using immunoradiometric assays, tumor-associated antigens CA 125, CA 15-3, and TAG 72 were measured to evaluate the usefulness af these markers in differentiating benign from malignant pelvic masses. Serum CA 125 levels were elevated above 65 U/ml in 85% of 33 patients with malignant pelvic masses, and in 24% of 45 patients with benign pelvic masses. Elevation of CA .1.5-3($gt;30 U/ml) and TAG 72($gt;10 U/ml) levels occurred in 45% and 30% of patients with malignancies, And 9% and 4o of patients with benign masses, respectively. Serum CA 125 levels distinguished. most effectively between patients with malignant pelvic masses and those with benign pelvic masses, having a sensitivity of 85% and a specificity of 76% at the cut-off level of 65 U/ml. When differentiating 21 patients with epithelial ovarian cancer from 45 patients with benign masses, the CA 125 levels($gt; 65 U/ml) alone had a sensitivity of 95% and a specificity of 76%. Comparing to CA 125, sensitivities of CA 15-3 and TAG 72 were much lower, 57% and 48%, respectively. However, specificities of these two markers were much higher than CA 125, 91% and 96%, respectively, Coordinate elevations of CA l25($gt; 65 U/ml) and CA 15-3($gt; 30 U/ml) or TAG 72($gt; 10 U/ml) discriminated epithelial ovarian cancers from benign m es with a sensitivity of 62% and specificity of 90%. Among patients over 50 years of age, a sensitivity and a specificity increased to 79% and 100%, respectively. Consequently, combined use of CA 15-3 and TAG 72 with CA 125 can obtain an acceptable sensitivity and an excellent specificity in differentiating malignant from benign pelvic masses, particularly among patients over 50 years of age. Prospective studies will be required to examine the efficacy of combined use of additional markers with CA 125 in the screening of ovarian cancer.

최근 본원 산부인과에서 산전 초음파검사 결과 태아복수와 석회화, 음낭 수종 등의 소견이 있었던 태변복막염 환자를 제왕절개 수술로 분만후 신생아는 2차에 걸친 장문합 수술로 현재 특이 사항없이 성장하고 있는 태아 복막염 1예를 경험하였기에, 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Meconium peritonitis is rare and has been defined as a chemical inflammation of the peritoneum caused by the escape of sterile meconium into the peritoneal cavity of the fetus or newly born infant, resulting from the prenatal small bowel perforation associated with or without obstructive lesions and malformation. Prenatal ultrasonographic detection of the meconium peritonitis allows the preparation for the proper management which should be decreased the mortality and morbidity of the neonate. Recently, a case of prenatal meconium peritonitis which was diagnosed by ultrasonography at 40 gestational weeks in a 40 years old multipara was experienced at our department. We present this case with a brief review of literature.
