      • 비강 및 비인두에 발생한 도립유두종과 편평상피암종의 p53단백 및 세포증식능에 관한 연구

        The inverted papilloma and squamous cell carcinoma are common neoplasia in the sinonasal cavity and nasopharynx, but the incidence of these tumors are very low and the study on the oncogenesis or biological activity of the tumor cells are not well known. This study was designed to evaluate the oncogenic roles of the p53 gene and the proliferative activity of the tumor cells in the inflammatory polyp, inverted papilloma and squamous cell carcinoma. The experiment was carried by the immunohistochemical stains about the p53 protein, PCNA and Ki-67, histochemical stain about the AgNORs. and flow cytometric analysis about the DNA ploidy using the formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissues. The frequency of the expression of p53 protein was 0%(0/16 cases) in the inflammatory polyps, 18.8% (3/16 cases) in the inverted papillomas, and 87.5%(14/16 cases) in the squamous cell carcinomas. The labelling index(%) of the PCNA and Ki-67 was 5.3% and 3.3% in the inflammatoy polyps, 29.6% and 25.2% in the inverted papillomas, and 51.9% and 36.8% in the squamous cell carcinoma. The expression of the PCNA and Ki-67 was distributed in the periphery of the tumor islands of the inverted papilloma and was distributed in the both of center and periphery of the tumor islands of the squamous cell carcinoma. The number of nuclear AgNORs was increased in the order of inflammatory polyps (0.96), inverted papillomas(1.34) and squamous cell carcinoma(2.09). The frequency of the DNA aneuploidy was 0%(0/16 cases) in the inflammatory polyps, 18.8%(3/16 cases) in the inverted papillomas. and 12.5%(2/16 cases) in the squamous cell carcinomas. Above results indicates that the changes of the p53 gene and proliferative activity of the tumor cells are involved on the oncogenesis and the biological activity of the inverted papilloma or squamous cell carcinoma in the nasopharynx and sinonasa cavity.

        In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

        Protective Effect of Heme Oxygenase-1 on High Glucose-Induced Pancreatic β-Cell Injury

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>Glucose toxicity that is caused by chronic exposure to a high glucose concentration leads to islet dysfunction and induces apoptosis in pancreatic β-cells. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) has been identified as an anti-apoptotic and cytoprotective gene. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether HO-1 up-regulation when using metalloprotophyrin (cobalt protoporphyrin, CoPP) could protect pancreatic β-cells from high glucose-induced apoptosis.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was performed to analyze the CoPP-induced mRNA expression of HO-1. Cell viability of INS-1 cells cultured in the presence of CoPP was examined by acridine orange/propidium iodide staining. The generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) was measured using flow cytometry. Glucose stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) was determined following incubation with CoPP in different glucose concentrations.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>CoPP increased HO-1 mRNA expression in both a dose- and time-dependent manner. Overexpression of HO-1 inhibited caspase-3, and the number of dead cells in the presence of CoPP was significantly decreased when exposed to high glucose conditions (HG). CoPP also decreased the generation of intracellular ROS by 50% during 72 hours of culture with HG. However, decreased GSIS was not recovered even in the presence of CoPP.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Our data suggest that CoPP-induced HO-1 up-regulation results in protection from high glucose-induced apoptosis in INS-1 cells; however, glucose stimulated insulin secretion is not restored.</P>

        The concept of using a therapy that might downsize or downstaging a cancer is not unique in oncology. Whereas chemotherapy is mostly used in other types of neoplasm, various types of neoadjuvant therapy have been extensively investigated prior to surgery in such solid tumors as breast cancer. In prostate cancer the real benefit of NHT prior to radical prostatectomy is far from proven. The initial thoughts that hormone-withdrawal therapy would convert extracapsular prostatic tumors into organ-confined ones have quickly dissipated. Only a few points are generally agreed regarding the effect of neoadjuvant therapy before radical prostatectomy. One involves a clinical downstaging that has been found in pathological examination in the majority of cases. This significant downstaging usually holds truth for clinical T2 diseases, but not necessarily for clinical T3 disease. The precise role of hormone therapy prior to surgery or radiotherapy is a topic of considerable controversy, and none of the studies conducted thus far has produced definitive answers. Therefore, at present these modes of treatment should be included in protocols. New trends include the use of both neoadjuvant therapy in the same patients, but data are not yet available. Other areas of research, including endpoints, comparison of drug efficacy, and effects on quality of life are certainly of importance in the management of prostate cancer. One should not forget these important issues.

        stock corporation system has been developed as a typical management of enterprises in modern times. This system can be said to be the results of our efforts made in the field of economic administration of corporations. a corporation is expected to have as many stockholdersas possible to get large working capital. stockholders should not participate in the management of the corporations. They elect directions or other officers who conduct and business Thus corporation system is expected to realize distinct seperation between property ownership and management of corporations. of late, however, there is a tendency that basic items of the affairs of corporations are decided at the meeting of stockholders, and thus the management of corporations has actually been under the influence of stockholder meeting. In exercising voting rights a stockholder should be free to express his own opinion according to his own judgement on his interests. But there remains theoretically various points to be disscussed for a stockholder to exercise his voting rights. This paper deals with various problems raised when a stockholder exercises his voting rights. Especially a the writer intends to disscuss inconsistent voting act of same stockholder. Generally a stockholder has as many votes in the corporations as he has shares of stock. He may cast his votes Inconsistently at will. 1. It is described in the introductory statement that there occur theoretically various problems to be discussed when a stockholder exercises voting rights. 2. Voting rights of stockholders are discussed as in the following. a) The voting right of a stockholder is the most important of all the rights of his in the corporation. b) a vote is legally the most basic the organ of the organ of the enterprise a stockholder casts his vote personally. The voting right is in nature a sort of property right and can be transferred another person. c) Generally each share of stock has own right to vote in the corporation. But here are sevral exceptions a share without voting right. a share which has no right to vote on special occasions, a share which has several votes, and so on. d) Voting rights of stockholders are exercised by means of voting acts to express stockholders, opinions on various items of the affairs of the corporation. e) Legal nature of exercising voting rights is discussed in various aspects. f) It is clarified here that a stockholder should be qualitied before he exercises his voting right. g) Difference between a signed and an unsined share of stock is exemplified. h) How to exercise voting right and how to vote by proxy are detailed in the paper. i) Discussions are made concerning about the restraiint to exercising voting rights in various cases. j) consistent voting act of a stockholder is descrided in comparison with inconsisent voting. 3. Inconsistent voting ot a stockholder is discussed as a core part ot this paper as seen in tne following. a) A stockholder may cast his votes inconsistently He may devide his votes into both approving opposing ones at will. b) Inconsistent voting may be necessary in several cases as exemplified in the paper. c) There are several claims and theories on the matter of inconsistent voting act. some scholars denounce such inconsistent voting act. others give assent to such voting. And others give partial support to inconsistent voting. 4. The writer, in conclusion, claims that inconsistent voting be approved in korea, although there are number of claims on the matter.

        For the purpose of treating the sludge which contains hazardous heavy metals, various kinds of studies were made on the unconfined compressive strength which various with the ratio of portland cement. Aluminum sulfate and sodium silicate, the effects upon cements binding influenced by moisture content, volatile solid and pH of sludge, and the amount of leaching solution which comes after cement binding. Erief results from the said studies are as following; 1. As a result of compression tests at various mixing ratio of binders, the highest intensity was found at the ratio of portland cement(0.4) + aluminum sulfate(0.05) + sodium silicate(0.05) + sludge(0.5). Generally the compressive strength tends to be in direct proportion with period of curing. 2. In case that sludge was binded at the same mixing ratio of binders to sludge, the compressive strength was increased and the amount of leaching solution was decreased at low content of moisture and volatile solid and high pH of sludge. 3. while the compressive strength is over than 9.0㎏/㎠, the hazardous heavy metals are not leached from the brick. 4. As the C/S ratio of binders was increasing, the amount of leaching hazardous heavy metals was decreasing. When binders were mixed at the ratio;portland cement+Aluminum sulfate(0.1)+Sodium silicate(0.1) and the C/S ratio of binders were 0.5, leaching solution amount was minimum. 5. The compressive strength of the sludge in the moisture content of 70% to 75% is made of over than 10㎏/㎠ at the curing of 28 days. When binders were mixed at the ratio; portland cement were over 0.5 of the C/S ratio, portland cement+Aluminum sulfate(0.1) were over 0.35 of the C/S ratio, portland cement+Sodium silicate(0.1) were over 0.35 of the C/S ratio and portland cement+Aluminum sulfate(0.05)+Sodium silicate(0.05) were over 0.25 of the C/S ratio.

      • 탄소 나노튜브의 길이변화에 따른 물리적 특성에 관한 이론적 연구

        본 연구에서는 나노 단위의 소자개발을 위하여 (6, 6) 탄소 나노튜브의 유한길이에 따른 물리적 특성에 관해 알아보았다. 먼저 브레너 전위식을 이용하여 모자가 씌워진 탄소 나노튜브의 최적화된 구조를 얻어내었다. 그후 탄소 나노튜브의 최적화된 구조를 가지고 TBMD 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. TBMD 결과, 에너지 밴드갭은 길이에 따라 반비례하는 것을 알 수 있으며 특히 길이가 20 이하인 경우 탄소와 탄소간의 나타나는 π 결합의 영향으로 인하여 길이에 따라 에너지 밴드갭이 민감한 변화를 보이며 진동함을 알 수 있다. 여기서 (6, 6) 탄소 나노튜브의 에너지 배드갭은 0.3∼2.5 eV 정도임을 알 수 있다. The electronic properties of Carbon Nanotube(CNT) are currently the focus of considerable interest. In this paper, the electronic properties of finite length effect in CNT for carbon nano-scale device is presented. To Calculate the electronic properties of CNT, Empirical potential method (the extended Brenner potential for C-Si-H) for carbon and Tight Binding molecular dynamic (TBMD) simulation are used. As a result of study, we have known that the value of the band gap decreases with increasing the length of the tube. The energy band gap of (6,6) armchair CNT have the ranges between 0.3 eV and 2.5 eV. Also, our result are in agreements with the result of the other computational techniques.

      • Kainic acid 를 사용한 소뇌피질 단소엽의 손상이 고전적 순막조건화에 미치는 효과

        본 연구는 소뇌피질 단소엽의 손상이 고전적 순막조건화에 미치는 영향을 검증하기 위한 것이다. 소뇌피질 단소엽이 순막조건화에 필수적인 신경 구조물인가를 확인하고, 또한 순막조건화와 관련된 필수적인 기억흔적이 형성되는 신경가소성이 일어나는 부위인가를 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 토끼를 대상으로 순막조건화를 실시한 후 소뇌피질 단소엽을 파괴하였으며, 이어서 이전에 확립된 조건반응의 파지 및 재학습 여부, 그리고 전이효과를 검사하였다. 소뇌피질 단소엽의 손상은 신경섬유의 역행성 변성으로 인한 문제를 해결하고자 세포체만을 선택적으로 손상시키는 Kainic acid을 미세주입하였다. 실험결과, 소뇌피질 단소엽이 완전히 손상된 집단은 손상전에 확립된 순막 조건반응의 파지 및 재학습이 불가능하였으나 무조건반응은 영향받지 않았다. 한편, 단소엽이 아닌 다른 소엽에 동일한 양의 Kainic acid에 의한 손상을 받은 통제집단은 이전에 확립된 조건반응이 존속되었다. 이와같은 본 연구의 결과는 소뇌피질 단소엽이 순막조건화에 결정적인 신경구조물임을 밝힌 이전의 연구결과들과 일치하며, 조건화 동안에 기억흔적과 관련된 신경가소성이 소뇌피질 단소엽에서 일어난다는 가설을 지지한다. The present experiment purports to examine effects of the cerebellar cortical simple lobule(HVI) on the classical conditioning of rabbit's nictitating membrane responses(NMR). The study examined whether the lobule HVI is an essential structure for NMR conditioning and whether it is the localized site where the critical memory trace related to classical NMR conditioning is formed. Many of the previous studies which explored the function of the lobule HVI in the MNR neural circuit have employed aspiration lesion techniques. But the aspiration may also damage inferior olive, pontine nuclus and deep cerebellar nucleus by retrograde degenerations of neural fibers as well as the simple lobule. In this study, kainic acid was micro-injected into the lobule HVI in order to overcome such porblems because the kainic acid destroys selectively the cell bodies and leave the fibers intact. Subjects were 16 rabbits. All animals were trained using standard procedures for NMR conditioning. The conditioning involves a tone(1㎑, 85㏈ SPL, 350㎳) as the conditioned stimulus(CS) with a coterminating periorbital electric shock(3㎃, 100㎳) delivered at the right eye as the unconditioned stimulus(US). Following the conditioning, the simple lobule of the right side cerebellum was lesioned. After recovery, animals received 5 days training on the right side to test for retention and reacquisition of conditioned responses. Then, animals received an additional session in which training was switched to the left side. Results show that complete lesions of the lobule HVI abolished previously established conditioning and prevented subsequent reacqusition, while unconditioned responses to US were intact. Lesions of the other cerebellar lobules did not impair the conditioning. The results suggested that the simple lobule is an essential part for classical NMR conditioning and that neural plasticity related to memory trace during the conditioning occurs in the simple lobule rather than in the dentate-interpositus nucleus.
