Orthodontic treatment for middle-aged patients has become more commonplace with various reasons including improved socioeconomic status. Understanding of oral status and treatment modalities of middle-aged patients is mandatory for accurate diagnosis and proper treatment planning. This study investigated 100 consecutive patients aged 40s and 50s and 100 aged 20s who had been examined and diagnosed at the Department of Orthodontics, Chonnam National University Dental Hospital. The results were obtained as follows; 1. Gender distribution showed female outnumbered male patients in young-aged adult patients, but middle-aged patients showed similar male and female distribution. 2. The major concern seeking orthodontic treatment was esthetics not only in young-aged but also in middle-aged adult patients, and a number of middle-aged patients were concerned about oral health as well. 3. Considerable number of middle-aged patients were referred by other dental specialties while young-aged adult patients were more self-motivated for orthodontic treatment. 4. Middle-aged adult patients had more missing teeth and periodontal disease than young-aged adults. 5. The most frequently-observed problem was dental spacing in middle-aged patients while dental crowding in young-aged adult patients. Middle-aged patients showed higher prevalence of deep overbite and overjet while most of young-aged adults presented opposite direction of problem in overbite and overjet. 6. Limited orthodontic treatment was required rather than comprehensive treatment in middle-aged patients, and the most common tooth moving area was anterior part of dentition in case of limited treatment. Need of interdisciplinary therapy with other dental specialties was more common in middle-aged patients. 7. Intervention of specific technique such as invisible TP, passive bracketing, passive wire bonding, and lingual orthodontics was more required in middle-aged patients. Considering that middle-aged patients have different characteristics than young-aged adults, the results of the present study suggest that different treatment modalities are required in middle-aged orthodontic patients in order to manage them properly and efficiently.
Historical change and dialectal vaiations of English r
Young-Shik Hwangbo 한국음운론학회 1999 음성·음운·형태론 연구 Vol.5 No.1
Hwangbo, Young-Shik. 1999. Historical Change and Dialectal Variations of English r. Studies in Phonetics, Phonology and Morphology 5, 257-282. In this paper, I argue that historical change of r is due to the overall process in which r undergoes weakening. I propose that this weakening process results in demotion of faithfulness constraints relevant to r realization. It is shown that such analysis of r can explain why r-insertion always and necessarily follows r-deletion, and how such incompatible kind of rules can coexist in a dialect. In addition, it is shown that the rule-based approach to these phenomena is not very successful. (Seoul National University)
Tones bassed on tonal boundaries: North Kyungsang Korean nouns
Young-Shik Hwangbo 한국음운론학회 2000 음성·음운·형태론 연구 Vol.6 No.1
Hwangbo, Young-Shik. 2000. Tones based on tonal boundaries: North Kyungsang Korean nouns. Studies in Phonetics, Phonology and Morphology 6.1, 181-206. This paper deals with nominal tones of North Kyungsang Korean. It will be argued that tonal classes must not be specified by underlying tones themselves (the Underlying Tone Hypothesis), but by diacritic marks (the Diacritics Hypothesis). These diacritic marks are used by lexical constraints which control the position of tonal boundaries. The default tonal pattern is captured by the ranking of lexical constraints; a general constraint is dominated by other special constraints. Once the tonal boundaries are decided, the correct position of a H tone is simply decided by a few general constraints. The so-called 'Tone Doubling' (as in mucike 'rainbow') is proved to be a result of ordinary constraint interaction, more specifically, a way of avoiding NonFin violation. Tonal domains and nonfinality effects in the Samchuk dialect of Korean
Young-Shik Hwangbo 한국음운론학회 2003 음성·음운·형태론 연구 Vol.9 No.1
Hwangbo, Young-Shik. 2003. Tonal domains and nonfinality effects in the Samchuk dialect of Korean. Studies in Phonetics, Phonology and Morphology 9.1. 223-246. This paper deals with tones of the Samchuk dialect of Korean, focusing on typical tonal patterns of nouns. I claim that the underlying forms of Korean tone dialects are marked by tonal boundaries, which later define tonal domains. I argue, following Gim (1988, 1999), that in most cases the positions of tonal boundaries are predictable from Middle Korean side-dots, and thus that all modern tone dialects have the same location of tonal boundaries. In addition, I argue, following Hwangbo (2001), that the different tone realization between dialects results from different constraint ranking. I show that the interesting tonal phenomena of the Samchuk dialect can be explained in a principled manner if we have recourse to the tonal boundaries and tonal domains. More specifically, I show that 'post-accenting' and 'pre-accenting' observed in the Samchuk dialect can be explained as nonfinality effects within tonal domains. (Sungkyul University)

WMT is the multimedia streaming technology which transfer the audio and video on Internet or Intranet. Because WMT supports almost styles of local and streaming multimedia file, some developers build the radio and video broadcasting system at any web applications and sites. This paper shows the method of develop the realtime internet broadcastion system with WMT.
The House of the Seven Gables에 관한 연구
尹永植 순천대학교 어학연구소 1992 어학연구 Vol.4 No.-
The story of The house of the Seven Gables is the history of retribution for the sin over long and many generations. The theme of this romance has to do with inherited sin, the sin of aristocratic claims against an order which calls for a truer and higher evaluation of man, The sin of Colonel Pyncheon was greed for wealth, connected with a false and wrongful desire to live through his posterity. He intended to enrich his family, but on the contrary he brought a curse on them. The Maules' curse loses its strength only after Clifford and Hepzibah Pyncheon, two innocent persons, separated by many generations from Pyncheon Colonel, have bitterly suffered for the great part of their lives. The Pyncheons are fighting to keep up a seat of isolated superiority over their fellows in the society. The Family of the Maules, which survives in Holgrave, is an obvious contrast to the Pyncheons. While the Pyncheons are aristocrats, the Maules persistently plebian: carpenters, artisans, sailors before the mast. Matthew Maul's posterity " was supposed now to be extinct." Nevertheless, the Maules managed to take their revenges on the Pyncheos by means of mesmerism; a carpenter Maul mesmerized Alice Pyncheon to death, for one thing. The time of termination of the curse of old Mattew Maule was when at last one young Poebe from the Pyncheon family and another young Holgrave from the Maule family united in marriage against all adversity of their own and ancestors. One of his fruitful subjects in this work is the problem of moral growth. Holgrave is a character who achieves his moral growth, but Judge Pyncheon is not.
