        Correlations Between Fasciology and Yin Yang Doctrine

        The aim of this study is to explore the correlations between fasciology and yin yang doctrine. Professor Yuan developed fasciology by three-dimensional reconstruction of connective tissue (fascia) in the trunk and limbs of the human body and tracing back to tissue origins in light of biological evolution and developmental biology. Fasciology states that the human body can be divided into two systems: the supporting-storing system and the functional system. This article elaborates on the roles of the two systems and their mutual relationship. The two systems are used to analyze the yin,the yang, and their relationship. The two systems are promoted but also restricted in different contexts. The supporting-storing system is formed by undifferentiated connective tissue and provides undifferentiated cells and nutrients for differentiated cells of the functional system. Thus, the supporting-storing system could be classified as quiet, similar to yin. The functional system continuously maintains the various functional activities of the human body. Thus, the functional system could be classified as active, similar to yang. In interpreting the yin yang doctrine from the point of view of fasciology, yin can be compared with the supporting-storing system and yang can be compared with the functional system.

        Asymmetric Structures of a Squall-Line MCS over Taiwan with Significant Hydraulic Jumps

        On 19 April 2019, a mature squall-line mesoscale convective system (MCS) with the characteristics of a leading convective line and trailing stratiform landed on Taiwan, resulting in strong gust wind and heavy rainfall. This squall-line MCS became asymmetric after landfall on Taiwan. Two sets of idealized numerical simulations (mountain heights and low-level vertical wind shear) using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model were conducted to examine the impacts of realistic Taiwan topography on a squall-line MCS. Results showed numerous similarities between the idealized simulations and real-case observations. The low-level Froude number which considered the terrain height ( Fmt) was calculated to examine the blocking effect of the Taiwan terrain, and the cold pool (determined by − 1.5 K isotherm) was found to be completely blocked by the 500-m height contour. The northeast-southwest orientation of the Snow Mountain Range (SMR), and the north–south orientation of the Central Mountain Range (CMR) led to the upwind side asymmetry. On the other hand, the lee-side asymmetry was associated with different intensities and occurrence locations of the hydraulic jump between the SMR and southern CMR, and the cold-pool Froude number ( Fcp) indicated the flow-regime transition from subcritical to supercritical.

        This study suggests a procedure for construction flexible information systems for material requirement planning(MRP) under the circumstances of small and medium enterprises. To this end, a methodology in algorithmic expression is presented, in which learning curve is applied for calculating the practical lead-time, and real-time calculation of inventory for parts is performed condering all possible situations occurred in manufacturing as well as procurement sites. Finally, a case study is carried out for a small and medium enterprise producing several type of valves for ships in order to demonstrate the procedure proposed.

        교정용 밴드 제거 후 미생물 분포 및 치주 조직의 임상적 변화

        본 연구는 밴드 제거 직후 및 4주 경과 후 치주조직의 임상적인 환경변화와 미생물 분포 변화를 알기 위해 시행하였다. 최후방 구치에 밴드를 포함하는 고정식 교정 장치를 장착하고 교정 치료를 1년 이상 시행한 17명의 환자를 대상으로 하였다 (평균 나이 22세, 남자 6명, 여자 11명). 최후방 구치의 밴드를 제거한 직후와 제거 후 4주가 경과한 다음에 치주조직의 탐침 깊이와 출혈 빈도를 측정하였으며, 치은 연하의 치태를 채취하여 미생물의 분포를 조사하였다. 치주질환에 관련성이 깊은 미생물 중 Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, Treponema denticola를 직접 Polymerase Chain Reaction 방법으로 존재 여부를 확인하였다. 밴드 제거 직후와 제거 후 4주가 경과한 시점의 치주조직의 탐침 깊이와 출혈 빈도, 병원성 미생물의 존재 여부를 통계적으로 비교하였다. 탐침 깊이와 출혈 빈도는 모두 하악 좌측 구치 협면에서 감소율이 가장 크게 나타났고, 상악 우측 구치 설면에서 감소율이 가장 작게 나타났다. 병원성 미생물 중 T. denticola가 밴드 제거 4주 후에 가장 높은 감소율을 보였으며, 하악보다 상악에서 감소율이 더 크게 나타났다. 이는 비록 밴드를 장착하여 치주 환경이 불량해졌다 하더라도 올바른 구강 위생 관리가 시행된다면 밴드를 제거한 후 정상적인 치주 상태로 회복될 수 있음을 예시한 것으로 생각되었다. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical and microbiological changes in periodontal tissue around the banded molars after debanding. Methods: This study included 17 young adult patients treated with fixed orthodontic appliances including bands on the last molars more than 1 years. Probing depth and bleeding frequency were measured and plaque samples were collected from the last banded molars in all quadrants of each patient. All the data were collected immediately after debanding and 4 weeks after debanding. Results: Using polymerase chain reaction based on 16S rDNA, the presence of Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia and Treponema denticola was detected. After debanding, probing depth, bleeding frequency, and prevalance of periodontopathogens were reduced. Probing depth and bleeding frequency were most decreased in the buccal site of the mandibular left molar and were least decreased in the lingual site of the maxillary right molar. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that proper management of oral hygiene after debanding can recuperate unfavorable periodontal condition caused by orthodontic treatment.

      • 경계선 검출 알고리듬의 검출 성능 평가를 위한 정량적인 측정 방법

        This research features a method that quantitatively evaluates the performance of edge detection algorithms. Contrary to conventional methods that evaluate the performance of edge detection as a function of the amount of noise added to the input image, the proposed method is capable of assessing the performance of edge detection algoritms based on chosen parameters that influence the performance of edge detection. We have proposed a quantative measure, called average performance index, that compares the average performance of different edge detection algorithms. We have applied the method to the commonly used edge detectors, Sobel, LOG(Laplacian of Gaussian), and Canny edge detectors for images that contain. straight line edges and curved line edges. Experimental results show that our method of quantitatively evaluating the performance of edge detection algorithms can facilitate the selection of the optimal edge detection algorithm for a given task.

      • 조명 변화에 강인한 효율적인 얼굴 인식

        This research features a new method for automatic face recognition robust to variations in lighting, facial expression and eyewear. The new algorithm named SKKUfaces (Sungkyunkwan University faces) employs PCA (Principal Component analysis) and FLD (Fisher's Linear Discriminant) in series similarly to Fisherfaces. The fundamental difference is that SKKUfaces effectively eliminates, in the reduced PCA subspace, portions of the subspace that are responsible for variations in lighting and facial expression and then applies FLD to the resulting subspace. This results in superb discriminating power for pattern classification and excellent recognition accuracy. We also propose an efficient method to compute the between-class scatter and the within-class scatter matrices for FLD analysis. We have evaluated the performance of SKKUfaces using YALE and SKKU facial databases. Initial experimental results show that the SKKUfaces method is computationally efficient and achieves much better recognition accuracy than Fisherface method especially for facial images with variations in lighting and eyewear.

      • 기록법과 빈도법에 의한 여대생들의 식생활 평가에 대한 비교연구

        This study was designed to compare the dietary intakes measured by two different dietary assessment methods, 7-day food record(FR) and semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire(SFFQ), in 32 young college women. The food and nutrient intakes from the two methods were statistically analyzed by Student t-test and Pearson's correlation coefficient(r) for the observation of differences and relations between two methods. The relationships between physical factors and dietary intakes were also analyzed by simple regression analysis. The results are s as follows : The daily mean intakes of foods and the number of food items derived from SFFQ were tended to be higher than those from FR. The calorie and nutrient intakes such as protein, Ca and vitamin C were also higher when measured by SFFQ. The correlation coefficients between dietary intakes derived from two different assessment methods were relatively low. The relationships between physical conditions, the menarche, and dietary intakes did not appear to be distinctive but physical factors such as body weight, height and BMI were affected by daily intakes of calory and protein as well as MAR derived from both SFFQ and FR. In this study, it has proven noteworthy that the dietary intakes would be overestimated when measured by SFFQ than by FR.
