      • 전자식 ballast의 시험용 의사부하에 관한 연구

        형광들을 점등시키는 안정기의 역할은 형광등과 같이 부저항특성을 갖는 방전등에 과전류가 유입되어, 파괴되지 않도록 일정전압 및 전류를 유지시켜주는 것이다. 최근 사용되고 있는 전자식안정기는 25-30KHz의 주파수를 사용, 캐패시터에 의한 안정화전류를 유도하고 있다. 그러나 전자식안정기는 고주파를 사용하는 관계로 제품의 품질보증을 위한 제반 규정이 까다로워 생산자는 개개의 안정기를 실제 형광등을 사용하여 특성검사를 하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 전자식안정기 특성검사의 효율성을 제고하기 위해 실제 형광등과 동일한 특성을 갖는 의사부하의 설계에 관하여 연구하였다. 초기의 과도 조건을 고려하지 않는 정전압 특성을 갖는 의사부하를 설계하여 실험한 결과 제한된 조건하에서 사용될 수 있음을 확인하였다. The electronic ballast has a role of taking a stable current of fluorescent lamp, which has a characteristics of negative resistance. Recently, it has been designed and operated on using the regulated constant current with capacitor and high frequency of 25 to 30KHz. But a fabricated electronic ballast in an assembly line was difficult to test, because it used a high frequency and needed strict provisions. And then manufacturer is now testing each ballast with a real fluorescent lamp. In this paper, we studied that real lamp can be replaced by a dummy load with the same characteristics.

        브루셀라균에 노출된 미생물 검사실 직원들에 대한 예방적 항생제 요법과 혈청학적 추적검사

        The aerozolization is one of possible Brucella transmission mechanisms, particularly in air-borne exposed laboratory workers. In this study, seven laboratory workers were potentially exposed to B. abortus via aerosols. Two laboratory workers who sniffed an agar plate several times were considered to be at high risk for acquiring the disease, 5 workers who did not work directly with the strain were be considered at low risk of infection. Prophylactic antibiotics of doxycycline 200 mg/day and rifampin 600 mg/day were offered for 6 weeks in high risk workers and 3 weeks for low risk workers respectively. Enrolled workers were advised to check for serological testing of Brucella species every 3 weeks during a total period of 12 weeks. Compliance with taking medicine was 57.1% (4/7) and compliance for completing the serological tests was 85.7% (6/7). None of the laboratory workers developed clinical disease or tested positive serologically during 3 months of seroloaical testing and 1 year of clinical follow-up.

      • 강릉수력발전소 발전수 방류 전후의 남대천 수질과 미생물 분포

        강릉수력발전소의 발전수 방류가 강릉 남대천의 수질 및 미생물 분포에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 정점 3 상류지역의 발전수 방류는 수질에 상당한 영향을 끼쳐 정점 3 및 정점 4의 수질은 악화되고 정점 5, 정점 6 및 정점 7의 수질은 개선되었다. 미생물 분포도 이와 유사하여 정점 3 및 정점 4의 세포수는 상당히 증가한 반면 정점 5, 정점 6 및 정점 7에서는 대체적으로 감소하였다. 이 결과로 미루어보아 강릉수력발전소의 발전수는 희석효과에 의해 수질 및 미생물 분포를 변화시키는 것으로 사료된다. The effects of water discharged from Kangnung hydropower plant on the water quality and some bacterial population of Namdaecheon Stream, Kangnung were investigated. The water discharged above station 3 affected the water quality significantly; the water quality of station 3 and station 4 took a turn for the worse, however those of station 5, station 6 and station 7 changed for the better. It was also true with the bacterial population; The number of cells of bacteria increased in station 3 and 4, but the number significantly decreased in station 5, station 6, and station 7. The data suggested the idea that the water discharged from Kangnung hydropower plant changed the water quality and some bacterial population by dilution effect.

        Central diabetes insipidus (DI) is a syndrome characterized by thirst, polydipsia and polyuria. Langerhans cell histiocytosis is one of the etiologies of DI. Recently we experienced a central DI associated with Langerhans cell histiocytosis. The 44 years old female patient complained right hip pain polydipsia and polyuria. We carried out water deprivation test. After vasopressin injection, urine osmotic pressure was increased form 109mOsmol/Kg to 327mOsmol/Kg (300%). Brain MRI showed a thickened pituitary stalk and at hot bone CT.CT guided biopsy revealed abnormal histiocytes proliferation and abundant lymphocytes, The final diagnosis was central DI associated with systemic Langerhans cell histiocytosis invading hip bone, L-spine and pituitary stalk. Desmopressin and etoposide chemotherapy were performed to the patient.

        Black-white Reflective Liquid Crystal Display Prepared with Two Color Reflective Layers

        Black-white reflective cholesteric liquid crystal display was prepared with two color liquid crystal layers, the combination of yellow color liquid crystal and blue color liquid crystal. The rubbing of cholesteric liquid crystal panel affects the brightness and color spectrum due to increase the planar domain texture. The CIE chromaticity coordinate of white is (0.31, 0.31).

      • Process Innovation Improves Trial Operation Efficiency

        <P>Background: Despite the fact that unaddressed delays in clinical trial operation could severely compromise the overall effort invested, there seems to be a lack of concerted effort in reforming such delays. This study evaluated the composite effect of initiatives in reforming trial operation efficiency. Methods: A high-volume academic medical center in Korea has implemented various initiatives to improve the trial operation efficiency by expediting times from institutional review board (IRB) submission to approval, from IRB submission to trial open for subject enrollment, and from trial open to first patient-in. The initiatives include implementation of the protocol preliminary review, parallel processing of the clinical trial agreement review in line with the protocol submission to the IRB, and involvement of project manager for operational risk management. Times from IRB submission to approval, from IRB submission to trial open, and from trial open to first patient-in before and after implementation of initiatives were compared. Results: The median time required in IRB approval was meaningfully shorter in the postinitiative group (19 vs 14 days; P < .001). The median times from IRB submission to trial open for subject enrollment and from trial open to first patient-in were reduced significantly in the postinitiative group (trial open: 25 vs 18 days, P < .001; first patient-in: 111.5 vs 100 days, P = .014). Conclusions: The initiatives were effective in reforming trial operational efficiency. Additional studies to address the cause of operational delay and modifiable factors influencing subject enrollment are needed to further improve operational efficiency.</P>

      • Alcohol dependence treating agent, acamprosate, prevents traumatic brain injury-induced neuron death through vesicular zinc depletion

        <P>Acamprosate, also known as <I>N</I>-acetyl homotaurine, is an <I>N</I>-methyl-<SMALL>D</SMALL>-aspartate receptor antagonist that is used for treating alcohol dependence. Although the exact mechanism of acamprosate has not been clearly established, it appears to work by promoting a balance between the excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters, glutamate, and gamma-aminobutyric acid, respectively. Several studies have demonstrated that acamprosate provides neuroprotection against ischemia-induced brain injury. However, no studies have been performed evaluating the effect of acamprosate on traumatic brain injury (TBI). In the present study, we sought to evaluate the therapeutic potential of acamprosate to protect against neuronal death following TBI. Rats were given oral acamprosate (200 mg/kg/d for 2weeks) and then subjected to a controlled cortical impact injury localized over the parietal cortex. Histologic analysis was performed at 3hours, 24hours, and 7days after TBI. We found that acamprosate treatment reduced the concentration of vesicular glutamate and zinc in the hippocampus. Consequently, this reduced vesicular glutamate and zinc level resulted in a reduction of reactive oxygen species production after TBI. When evaluated 24hours after TBI, acamprosate administration reduced the number of degenerating neurons, zinc accumulation, blood–brain barrier disruption, neutrophil infiltration, and dendritic loss. Acamprosate also reduced glial activation and neuronal loss at 7days after TBI. In addition, acamprosate rescued TBI-induced neurologic and cognitive dysfunction. The present study demonstrates that acamprosate attenuates TBI-induced brain damage by depletion of vesicular glutamate and zinc levels. Therefore, this study suggests that acamprosate may have high therapeutic potential for prevention of TBI-induced neuronal death.</P>
