        Changes in αB-crystallin, tubulin, and MHC isoforms by hindlimb unloading show different expression patterns in various hindlimb muscles

JENB., Vol. 18, No. 2, pp.161-168, 2014 [Purpose]αB-crystallin is a small heat shock protein that acts as a molecular chaperone under various stress conditions. Microtubules, whichconsist of tubulin, are related to maintain the intracellular organelles and cellular morphology. These two proteins have been shownto be related to the properties of different types of myofibers based on their contractile properties. The response of these proteinsduring muscular atrophy, which induces a myofibril component change, is not clearly understood. [Methods] We performed 15days of hindlimb unloading on rats to investigate the transitions of these proteins by analyzing their absolute quantities. Proteincontents were analyzed in the soleus, plantaris, and gastrocnemius muscles of the unloading and control groups (N = 6). [Results]All three muscles were significantly atrophied by hindlimb unloading (P < 0.01): soleus (47.5%), plantaris (16.3%), and gastrocnemius(21.3%) compared to each control group. αB-crystallin was significantly reduced in all three examined unloaded hindlimb musclescompared to controls (P < 0.01) during the transition of the myosin heavy chain to fast twitch muscles. α-Tubulin responded onlyin the unloaded soleus muscle. Muscle atrophy induced the reduction of αB-crystallin and α-tubulin expressions in plantar flexormuscles with a shift to the fast muscle fiber compared to the control. [Conclusion] The novel finding of this study is that bothproteins, αB-crystallin and α-tubulin, were downregulated in slow muscles (P < 0.01); However, α-tubulin was not significantly reduced compared to the control in fast muscles (P < 0.01).       • 水素 이온 濃度變化가 平滑筋 細胞膜에서의 KCI 誘導 Ca-Uptake에 미치는 影響

        For the purpose of studying the properties of calcium channel, the effect of pH on the KCl induced Ca-uptake in the isolated porcine intestinal sarcolemmal vesicles, which were loaded with high KCl was investigated. The obtained results were as follows; 1. Ca-uptake in the membrane of depolarized state by high KCl, compared with that of polarized state by low KCl in the medium was increased significantly(increased about 95.7% for 30 seconds, pH 7.4). 2. Ca-uptake in the membrane of predepolarized state by high KCl, compared with that of polarized state by low KCl was also increased significantly but less than that of depolarized state by high KCl (increased about 66.7% for 30 seconds, pH 7.4). 3. Influence of pH on the Ca-uptake of various membrane state was increased or decreased according to pH changes. Ca-uptake in the membranes of incubated at pH 6.0 was decreased about 48.5%, but increased about 10% and 36% at pH 8.0 and 9.0 respectively, compared with that incubated at pH 7.4. 4. KCl-induced Ca-uptake at the various pH conditions, was not inhibited by the pretreatment of diltiazem(10^-6M). From the above results, it was concluded that KCl-induced Ca-uptake at the various pH conditions in the isolated sarcolemmal membranes, prepared from porcine intestinal smooth muscle, was not mediated through channels which are inhibited by organic Ca-antagonists.

      • 저전력 직접 가변 안테나 변조를 위한 DGS 가변 임피던스 선로에 관한 연구

        In this paper, we proposed a variable-impedance microstrip circuit using DGS (Defected Ground Structure) and control device. The proposed variable-impedance transmission line with a simple planar antenna can change the resonant frequency and the input impedance of antenna to achieve the DAM (Direct Antenna Modulation). As an application example of the variable-impedance microstrip, we have implemented the ASK modulation of RF signal for the low-power consumption RFID applications. The experimental results show that a patch antenna with a resonant frequency of 2.45 GHz and a 30 MHz bandwidth can transmit a 1 Mbps digital modulated signal with the ultra low-power consumption.

        일차 양측성 구순열의 일단계 재건에 대한 증례보고

        Bilateral cleft lip reconstruction can be performed in one-or two-stages. The choice depends on the surgeon's proficiency and experience. However the type and severity of the cleft must be considered. Complete or incomplete symmetric, bilateral clefts in which the premaxilla is within the alveolar arch or slightly protruded can be successfully treated with simultaneous lip reconstruction on both sides. There are some advantages that one-stage lip reconstruction facilitates creation of a symmetric and balanced lip, retraction of protruding premaxilla and the parent's psychologic satisfaction. However, there are some disadvantages such as micrognathia of the upper jaw by severe scar formation and poor adaptation of flap margins by severe tension. The surgeon must be able to judge and exploit the advantages offered by one-stage approach. We present the case report of one-stage reconstruction of primary bilateral cleft lip with literature reviews.

        이차구순열 결손의 치료

        Despite the current accomplishments with the repair of cleft lips, the surgical management of the nasal deformity remains a functional and aesthetic dilemma for patients, their families, and reconstructive surgeons. Recent improvements in the understanding and technical execution of te primary cleft lip repair have significantly reduced secondary sequelae and the consequent need for secondary surgical correction. But, secondary surgical corrections are necessary according to numerous factors. Such factors include the secondary surgical corrections are necessary according to numerous factors. Such factors include the severity of the initial deformity, the surgical plan, precision of execution of the primary repair, and success of the postoperative management. We preformed the secondary correction of cleft lip and palate in 11 patients via various methods. In conclusion, primary repair of cleft lip and palate patients is the most important to prevent the secondary deformities, and most of cleft lip and palate with secondary deformities must be treated with combined cheiloplasty and rhinoplasty.

      • 뇌경색을 후유증으로 남긴 뇌형 말라리아 1예

        저자들은 53세 남자로서 파키스탄을 여행한 직후 열대열원충으로 인한 뇌형 말라리아가 발병되어 혼수에까지 이르렀고, 적절히 치료하였으나 뇌기저핵의 경색과 신경학적 휴우증을 남겼던 1례를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. In recent years, the incidence of imported cases with falciparum malaria has been increasing in Korea due to marked increase in travel to malarious area without adequate prophylaxis. Cerebral malaria is and encephalophaty which can complicate some patients infected with Plasmodium falciparum leading to significant mortality. We report a case of 53 year-old male with cerebral malaria who was thought to be infected in Pakistan. Blood smear showed typical intra-erythrocytic ring form trophozoites and banana-shaped gametocytes of P. falciparum. The patient had been in comatose state for a week despite immediate treatment with meloquine. After improvement of his consciousness, however, aphasia and quadriparesis persisted and brain MRI showed subacute infarction of both basal ganglia (globus pallidus and putamen). To our knowledge, this is the first case of cerebral malaria complicated with cerebral infarct reported in Korea.

        This work was conducted to study the distribution of velocity field in the inlet region of evaporator for automobile HVAC(Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning). By experimental and numerical simulation method, we found out that the installation position of evaporator in cool air blowing system had optimal value. Also, the porous media assumption of evaporator in computational domain assured to valid when compared with experimental results. Finally, the diffusing scroll which proved to be very efficient and silent by experimentally.

      • Fill Dam의 漏水原因과 遮水에 關한 硏究

        In general, leakage of fill dam causes not only fall in economic field in problem of storage efficiency but also collapse of embankment dams. This leakage path can be embankment dams, joining part between embankment dams and foundation ground and foundation ground. Fissure which nearly happens in embankment dams, one of leakage causes of fill dam turned out that load transfer by differential settlement between different core and rip rap with each other is chief cause offerer. This phenomenon turned out to be so dangerous in early containing water. Futhermore, it induces hydraulic fracturing and has considerable influence on stability of embankment dams. Hydraulic fracturing is that fissure happens either in rock mass or internal embankment dams by hydraulic pressure and when dam is filled with water, means that core is torn horizontally by hydraulic pressure. Initial proposed mechanisms of hydraulic fracturing are for the most part supposed things in the process for investigating either leakage or cause of failure by internal erosion and are considerably qualitative but since finite element in moving analysis is used, have begun to be analyzed quantitatively. In this paper, the cause of leakage and the process of occurrence of leakage are examined, and measures which can predict and prevent leakage in advance is presented. Also a impervious method improved is presented after investigation of the methods which have been applied to fill dam to cut off leakage. As an impervious method, grouting after grasping the cause of leakage and flow channel with geophysical investigation is better efficient than only to reinforce part in which erosion or fissure happens.

      • Genetic algorithm을 이용한 supply chain network에서의 최적생산 분배에 관한 연구

        Recently, a multi facility, multi product and multi period industrial problem has been widely investigated in Supply Chain Management (SCM). One of the key issues in the current SCM research area involves reducing both production and distribution costs. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum quantity of production and transportation with minimum cost in the supply chain network. We have presented a mathematical model that deals with real world factors and constraints. Considering the complexity of solving such model, we have applied the genetic algorithm approach for solving this model computational experiments using a commercial genetic algorithm based optimizer. The results show that the real size problems we encountered can be solved in reasonable time.
