      • Trithioformaldehyde(TTFA)가 백서에서 사염화탄소 투여에 의한 간 손상에 미치는 영향에 대한 형태학적 연구

        Carbon tetrachloride is not only toxic to the liver causing centrilobular necrosis and fatty change, but also harmful to the kidney, the lung and the nervous system. It causes hepatic injury constantly regredless of the routes of administration, so that it is used in the animal model of toxic hepatic injury. It is metabolized by microsomal enzyme, cytochrome p-450, to produce trichloromethyl and monoatomic free radicals, which have toxic effects on cell membrane and cytoplasmic organelles. Their toxic effects can be lessened by antioxidant vitamin E or methionine and glutathione Trithioformaldehyde(TTFA) is a synthetic cyclic aliphatic compound containing three sulfur atoms. This study is done to evaluate the protective effects of TTFA on the hepatic injury caused with carbon tetrachloride by light and electron microscopic examination. The results are as follows. 1. TTFA administration increased SGPT and SGOP compared to the control group. 2. Pretreatment of TTFa before carbon tetrachloride administration decreased SGOT and SGPT compared to the carbon tetrachloride alone administration. 3. TTFA administration brought slightly irregular hepatic cell cords light microscopically and dilattion of RER and mitochondria electron microscopically. 4. Carbon tetrachloride administration brought extensive severe centrilobular hepatic necrosis and fatty change light and electron microscopically. 5. Pretreatment of TTFA before carbon tetrachloride administration brought centrilbular necrosis but the fatty change was minimal compared to carbon tetrachloride alone administration. Electron microscopically, the cell necrosis and degeneration were also in lesser degree compared to the carbon tetrachloride alone administration. The above results suggest that TTFA might lessen the hepato-toxic effects of carbon tetrachloride, but further studies are needed to elucidate it.

      • Technical Change and Policy Implications for Developing Environmentally-Friendly Agriculture in Korea

        Environmentally Sustainable technologies may be broadly categorized as end-of-pipe technology and clean technology. Progress towards sustainable technologies in agriculture must call on farmers, agricultural economists, scientists, and government to act as partners in a process of technical change. Within this partnership approach, the government`s role has a vital role to play in promoting the integration of both technologies and disseminating those technologies. As an integrated approach to establish sustainable technologies, Korean-type precision farming such as the integrated pest and nutrient management (IPNM) has the potential to make a major contribution towards improving agricultural practice and then increasing efficiency and reducing the impacts on the environment from agro-chemical wastage.

        DRG 지불제도 도입에 따른 의료보험청구 행태 변화

        Objectives : To evaluate the impacts of the DRG payment system on the behavior of medical insurance claimants. Specifically, we evaluated the case-mix index, the numbers of diagnosis and procedure codes utilized, and the corresponding rate of diagnosis codes before, during and after implementation of the DRG payment system. Methods : In order to evaluate the case-mix index, the number of diagnosis and procedure codes utilized, we used medical insurance claim data from all medical facilities that participated in the DRG-based Prospective Payment Demonstration Program. This medical insurance claim data consisted of both pre-demonstration program data (fee-for-service, from November, 1998 to January, 1999) and post-demonstration program data (DRG-based Prospective Payment, from February, 1999 to April, 1999). And in order to evaluate the corresponding rate of diagnosis codes utilized, we reviewed 820 medical records from 20 medical institutes that were selected by random sampling methods. Results : The case-mix index rate decreased after the DRG-based Prospective Payment Demonstration Program was introduced. The average numbers of different claim diagnosis codes used decreased (new DRGs from 2.22 to 1.24, and previous DRGs from 1.69 to 1.21), as did the average number of claim procedure codes used (new DRGs from 3.02 to 2.16, and previous DRGs from 2.97 to 2.43). With respect to the time of participation in the program, the change in number of claim procedure codes was significant, but the change in number of claim diagnosis codes was not. The corresponding rate of claim diagnosis codes increased (from 57.5% to 82.6%), as did the exclusion rate of claim diagnosis codes (from 16.5% to 25.1%). Conclusions : After the implementation of the DRG payment system, the corresponding rate of insurance claim codes and the corresponding exclusion rate of claim diagnosis codes both increased, because the inducement system for entering the codes for claim review was changed.

      • Thermosensitive Biodegradable Poly(organophosphazene) Gels and Their Blends

        Thermo-sensitive poly(organophosphazene) hydrogels with hydrophilic α-amino-ω-methoxy-poly(ethyleneglycol) (AMPEG), hydrophobic amino acid esters (L-isoleucine ethyl ester) and glycine lactate ethyl ester as a side group have been synthesized. The poly(organophosphazenes) were characterized by 1H-, 31P-NMR spectroscopies and GPC. The viscosities of the gels were measured by viscometer along with the temperature changes. The poly(organophosphazenes) synthesized form solutions in water at low temperature while they form gels as the temperature increases showing lower critical solution temperature. To control the gelation properties we have studied polymer blends system. We grouped the polymers synthesized in two group such as hard polymers with low Tmax and high Vmax and soft polymers with high Tmax and low Vmax. When these polymers were blended at the appropriate ratio, the blended aqueous solution changed into a transparent hydrogel at the targeted body temperature. According to DSC and IR measurements, the two polymers were blended homogeneously.

        Glucose Oxidase가 척수지각신경절세포에 미치는 영향과 천마의 효과에 관한 연구

        Objectives : To clarify the cytotoxic effect of glucose oxidase(GO) and protective effect of gastrodiae Rhizoma (GR) on spinal sensory ganglion(DRG) neurons, neurotoxicity mediated by GO was measured by MTT assay and neurofilament enzymeimmuno assay(EIA). Methods : DRG neurons were cultured in the media containing various concentrations of GO for 3 hours. In addition, neuroprotective effects of GR, on GO-induced neurotoxicity in DRG neurons were examined after DRG neurons were preincubated with various concentrations of GR for 2 hours before 15mU/ml GO for 3 hours. Results : GO decreased remarkably cell viability in dependently in these cultures, and also RG increased cell viability and amount of neurofilament in DRG neurons damaged by GO. Conclusion : It is suggested that GO has toxic effect in cultured mouse DRG neurons, and also RG was effective in the protection of GO-induced neurotoxicity in these cultures.

        이산화탄소 포집 및 저장기술(Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage, CCS)이 기후변화 대응 기술로서 국내외적으로 주목 받고 있다. CCS 기술은 발전소 및 제철소 등 대규모 발생원에 서 배출되는 CO2를 포집, 파이프라인이나 선박 등을 통해 수송, 그리고 이를 지중에 장기간 저장하는 저장공정으로 이루어진다. 본 연구에서는 CO2 해양지중저장 실용화를 위한 CO2 물성 특성, 수송·주입 공정설계, 선박 수송 안전성, 중간저장 개념설계 그리고 저류층 내 CO2 거동 안전성 평가를 위한 탄성파 모니터링 기술을 개발하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이에 대한 연구내용을 정리하고 주요 결과를 소개하고자 한다. Carbon dioxide Capture and Storage(CCS) is regarded as one of the most promising options to response climate change. CCS is a three-stage process consisting of the capture of carbon dioxide, the transport of CO2 to a storage location, and the long term isolation of CO2 from the atmosphere for the purpose of carbon emission mitigation. To carry out demonstration and commercialization of CO2 marine geological storage, property analysis focused on the hydrate phase equilibrium, process design of transport and injection, safety analysis of CO2 carrier, design of offshore intermediate storage facility and seismic wave propagation modeling were studied. In this paper, major results of these studies were introduced and summarized.

      • 배지의 무기염류와 sucrose 농도가 감자의 기내 shoot 증식과 기내경 삽목묘의 생존율에 미치는 영향

        감자의 virus-free 기내경 삽목묘의 효율적인 대량 생산 체계의 확립을 위하여 생장점 배양으로 얻어진 감자의 기내경의 증식과 기내경의 순화삽목을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 초대배양에서는 염류농도와 sucrose 농도가 높을수록 양호하였다. 즉, MS나 2MS에 sucrose를 6% 첨가한 배지에서 튼튼한 기내경이 생산되었다. 계대배양에서는 sucrose 농도가 높을수록 줄기의 길이는 단축되고 굵기는 커졌으며 생체중은 염류농도와 관계없이 3%의 sucrose가 첨가된 배지에서 무거웠다. 이들 유식물체의 경절을 삽목한 결과 계대배양 배지의 sucrose농도가 6%인 배지에서 생존율이 높은 경향이었다. In order to establish a mass propagation system of potato planting material, in vitro multiplication of virus-free shoot originated from meristem culture and sucrose concentrations on survival of cutting of the in vitro stem tried with various media containing different levels of MS salts(0.5x, 1x and 2x) and sucrose(1.0, 3.0, 6.0%), and the effects of MS salts elements were evaluated. Higher level of sucrose in the initial culture media favored the shoot growth, that is, both of 1MS and 2MS media containing 6.0% sugar produced stouter shoots. Higher level of sucrose in the subculture media also favored the development of compact stout shoots, but biomass production in terms of fresh weight was high on the media containing 3.0%sucrose, regardless of MS salts concentration. The survival rate of cuttings made of the in vitro stem segments tended to be higher in those obtained from subculture media containg 6.0%sucrose.

      • Seismic stratigraphic reconstruction of Plio-Quaternary depositional sequences on the continental shelf of Korea Strait

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The Korea Strait is a seaway connecting the East Sea with the East China Sea. The Plio-Quaternary stratigraphy and sedimentation on the Korea Strait shelf was studied using a dense network of high-resolution, single-channel seismic reflection profiles. The shelf sequences above the acoustic basement consist of seven depositional sequences separated by erosional unconformities corresponding to falls in sea level. Individual sequences are characterized by well-stratified and complex sigmoid-oblique prograding reflection configurations, reflecting a history of upbuilding and outbuilding in response to repetitive transgressive and regressive events driven by sea level changes. During the regression to lowstand of sea level, lowstand prograding wedges were formed seaward along the present shelf margin, whereas during the highstand of sea level, as in the present condition, highstand deposits were deposited in the inner shelf along the coast. However, as the subsequent regression began, the inner-shelf highstand deposits were severely eroded out and/or formed a condensed section. Volumetrically, the forced regressive and lowstand systems tracts are the most important components of the Korea Strait. Consequently, the Plio-Quaternary sequence in this area consists of a succession of stacked progradational lowstand wedges, mainly formed during the regression and lowstand of sea level.</P>
