Translation competence has been an area that failed to receive much attention in translation studies due to inherent difficulties in research as well as lack of clear definition of translation competence. Recently, however, research in this area is gaining momentum along with active study in translation process. This paper, using TAP, looks into the process of Japanese-Korean translation conducted by professional translators, translation students of GSIT-HUFS (Graduate School of Interpretation and Translation, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies) and Japanese language learners. A qualitative analysis is provided on the utterances made by the three groups with different translation competence. As a result, while, translation behaviors such as automation were identified in all of them, specific tendencies were different according to translation competence. Different groups were also found to show different tendencies in the Internet search and translation strategies. The result of this study can be a basis to apply step-by-step approach to enhancing students' translation competence.

Cho, SangEun. (2007). Exploring how translation act changes according to development of translation competence: A qualitative analysis comparing results of a recent and a past TAP experiment conducted on a same subject. Conference Interpretation and Translation, 9(2), 241-261. Research on translation process is required in order to apply appropriate translation teaching according to a translator's developmental stage of his/her translation competence. From this perspective, studies have been made on the models of acquisition and development of translation competence. TAP is a research methodology over which there has been a temporary agreement on its effectiveness. This study compares the data obtained through a TAP experiment with two subjects conducted in 2004 and a recent follow-up TAP on the same subjects, so as to track any changes in the translation acts made over time as their translation competence developed, and thus to explore how translation competence development has affected translation process. It is hoped that the result of the study, which reveals differences in the translation act according to the development of translation competence can be directly applied to teaching translation students. It is said that Japanese-Korean translation is easier than other language combination. However, the closeness of two languages often results in translationese phenomena, which could affect the reduction of the readability of TT. This paper aims to find out how professional translators are sensitive to the interference and translationese problems through his/her translating process. Also, we could get implication about the relation of translationese phenomena an readability too, by using TAPs (Think-Aloud Protocols) and readability test. TAPs is thought to be the only method to investigate the process of the translating and the translators' 'black box'. The result of the test is that whether translators are aware the possibility of the interference and their mother tongue abilities affect the readability of TT. We found that Japanese-Korean translation have the problems of interference and translationese phenomenon, which could reduce the readers' readabilities.

Objectives: The research aims to investigate a) the effect of adulthood health problems on the three dimensions of disability(i.e., mental functions, activity capacity in daily movement, and participation frequency), b) the effect of formal/informal supports on the three dimensions of disability, and c) the moderating effects of formal/informal supports. Methods: Nationally representative sample of 1,075 adults with developmental disabilities aged 18 and over are analyzed from ‘2011 Policy Recommendations for Supporting People with Developmental Disabilities and their Families Based on a Needs Assessment Survey’. Based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, health condition is operationalized as the number of adulthood onset health problems; body function as mental functions(MF); activity as activity capacity in daily movement(AC); and participation as participation frequency in social activities(PF). Structural equation modeling is employed for the analysis. Results: The findings revealed that the number of adulthood health problems negatively affected MF and AC. Community services and informal support had positive influences on AC and PF. Finally, community services showed the moderating effect in the association between the adulthood health problems and PF. Conclusions: Theoretical, practical and policy implications regarding health promotion and decrease in disability were further addressed.
