        Protection Against Electroshock- and Pentylenetetrazol-induced Seizures by the Water Extract of Rehmannia glutinous can be Mediated through GABA Receptor-chloride Channel Complexes

        Epilepsy is a brain disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by recurrent and unpredictable seizures that are usually controlled with antiepileptic/anticonvulsive drugs. However, most antiepileptic drugs produce various side effects such as tolerance and sedation. Thus, there is a growing interest for alternative anticonvulsive drugs, preferably from natural or herbal sources. In this study, we evaluated the anticonvulsive effects of Rehmannia glutinosa (RG). The anticonvulsive effect of RG extract was evaluated using electroshock- and chemical-induced seizure tests in mice. To identify its probable mechanism of action, the effects of RG extract on Cl- influx was measured in vitro. We found that RG extract has anticonvulsive effects against electroshock-induced seizures, as indicated by an increased seizure threshold in mice. The RG extract also decreased the percentage of seizure responses induced by the GABAergic antagonist, pentylenetetrazole. These results suggest that the anticonvulsive effects of RG extract are mediated through a GABAergic mechanism. In support of this mechanism, our in vitro test showed that RG extract increases intracellular Cl- influx. Furthermore, RG extract did not show sedative and/or muscle relaxant effects in the open-field and rota-rod tests. Altogether, these results confirm that RG extract could be a herbal anticonvulsant and a potential alternative for clinical use.

        Neurobiological Functions of the Period Circadian Clock 2 Gene, Per2

        Most organisms have adapted to a circadian rhythm that follows a roughly 24-hour cycle, which is modulated by both internal (clock-related genes) and external (environment) factors. In such organisms, the central nervous system (CNS) is influenced by the circadian rhythm of individual cells. Furthermore, the period circadian clock 2 (Per2) gene is an important component of the circadian clock, which modulates the circadian rhythm. Per2 is mainly expressed in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus as well as other brain areas, including the midbrain and forebrain. This indicates that Per2 may affect various neurobiological activities such as sleeping, depression, and addiction. In this review, we focus on the neurobiological functions of Per2, which could help to better understand its roles in the CNS.

        유럽 컨테이너 건축물의 사례분석을 통한 국내 적용방안

        The purpose of this study was to analyze the planning characteristics and it's application of container architecture as case study. Field survey was used to analyze the spatial planning characteristics in terms of development outline, appearance, exterior, floor plan and interior of eight famous cases in Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover, Amsterdam and Paris of Europe. The results of this study were as follows; Firstly, good examples of container architectures such as student housing, social service center, temporary medical facility and cruise terminal in Europe suggested the potential of domestic applicability in various purposes and development. Secondly, various types of freight container, building container and module frame system should be developed with their reprocessing environment. Thirdly, it is necessary for us to develop ISO type(20~40ft) container and standard plan with interior and storage design reflecting demands of residents. Finally, the use of container module will be an environmental-friendly alternative for its modularity and reusability, so it should be used as it is without severe deformation. The development of environmental friendly energy sources such as hydro and solar power is necessary for domestic container architecture as well. The container design should include the use of high quality of exterior finishing materials and the plan of aesthetical color planning to make the building a local landmark.

      • Histamine에 의한 위궤양 발생기전에 관하여

        Histamine and Reserpine increased gastric secretion and free acidity, as a result they produced peptic ulceration. Cimetidime, a H_2 receptor antagonist, blocked the increase of gastric secretion and acidity In this experiment, some aspects of histamine, reserpine, and cimetidine on gastric secretion and ulceration in rat were studied. The data reported showes that; 1) Histamine treated group increased gastric volume and free acidity, compared with those of control group. But total acidity was decreased. Gastric mucosa showed significant gross hemorrhage and ulceration 2) Reserpine treated group showed significant increase in gastric volume and pH, slight increase in free acidity. But Total acidity decreased remarkably. 3) In cimetidine pretreated groups, gastric volume, pH, and free acidity were not increased. Total acidity was decreased remarkably. Ulceration of gastric mucosa was slightly occured. In conclusion, histamine and reserpine increased gastric volume and free acidity. They produced peptic ulceration on the mechanism of H^+ion back diffusion. Cimetidine pretreated group blocked gastric ulceration.

        최근 공동주택 설계경기에 나타난 단위세대 계획개념 및 공간계획 특성

        The purpose of this study is to analyze the planning concept and spatial characteristics of the multi-housing units in prize-wining works of design competition since 2007. Literature review and content analysis were used for this study and 199units over 59㎡ were analyzed to review the planning concept, spatial composition and layout. The results of this study were as follows; 1)The planning concept of these units were divided into three aspects; that is, eco-friendly, rational and sustainable unit plan by means of functional, environmental-friendly and future-oriented aspects. 2)Most unit plans had 3LDK+2bath and 4Bay types including family room as a public space. This results shows that family-room and bathroom has recently become more important than number of rooms in multi-housing units planning. 2)In terms of the spatial composition of LDK and Master Bed room, LDK area become large, open type and master-zone were showed "bed room+dress and powder room+bath" type. 3)The entrance has a intermediated space as a balcony or a former space and the privacy of LDK space was protected from the entrance. This study has a significant meaning on grasping current trend in Korean multi-housing and to provide information for future direction on housing-unit design.

        Genetic analysis between FGD6 and aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease in a Korean population

        The human FYVE, RhoGEF and PH domain containing 6(FGD6) gene regulates mechanisms that are implicated in airway bronchospasm, and therefore, may be a risk factor for aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD). This study aims to investigate the association between FGD6 variations and AERD in a Korean asthma cohort. A total of 34 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected for genotyping based on previously reported polymorphisms in the HapMap database. Genotyping was carried out using TaqMan assay and nine major haplotypes from two haplotype blocks were obtained in 163 AERD cases and 429 aspirin-tolerant asthma (ATA) controls. Genotype frequency distributions ofFGD6 polymorphisms and haplotypes were analyzed using logistic and regression models. Findings from logistic and regression analyses revealed a lack of association of FGD6genetic variations with AERD and fall rate of FEV_1 (P >0.05 in co-dominant, dominant and recessive models). This preliminary report provides evidences that variations in the FGD6 gene do not influence the risk of AERD and its relevant phenotype in a Korean population. This report may contribute to the etiology of aspirin hypersensitivity in Korean asthma patients.

        무릎 관절 각도에 따른 교각운동이 정적 균형과 동적 균형에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 무릎 관절 각도를 달리한 교각운동이 정적균형과 동적균형에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 용인시 소재 O병원과 Y대학교에 재직, 재학 중인 건강한 직원과 학생 54명을 선정하여, 18명씩 3개의 그룹(60°, 90°, 120°)으로 나누어 주 5회 2주 동안 진행하였다. 정적균형 중 EO(Eye Open) C90A는 60°, 90°, EC(Eye Close) C90A는 60°, 90°, 120°, EO TL은 60°, 90°, EC TL은 60°, 90°, 120°에서 운동 전, 후에 유의한 차이가 있었으며(p<.05) 각도 사이에는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 동적균형은 전 방향에서 운동 전, 후와 각도 사이에 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<.05). 위의 결과로 보아, 교각운동은 60°, 90°, 120°에서 운동 전, 후에 모두 효과가 있었지만, 90°에서 시행하는 것이 가장 유의한 차이가 있었음을 알 수 있었다. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of bridging exercises performed with different knee-joint angles on static and dynamic balance between before and after the exercises; it ultimately looks to present more effective bridging exercise methods. A total of 54 staff members and students at Yongin-si’s Y University, respectively, were selected as the subjects of this study. The subjects were divided into three knee-joint angle groups of 18 members each (60°, 90°, 120°), and both static balance After being measured before the exercise, the values were remeasured after the subjects performed bridging exercises five times repeatedly for 10 s each, five times a week for two weeks, at the various individual angles. The results of the study are as follows. Among static balance items, EO C90A showed significant differences between before and after the exercises at 60° and 90°; EC C90A showed significant differences at 60°, 90°, and 120°; EO TL showed significant differences at 60° and 90°; and EC TL showed significant differences at 60°, 90°, and 120°(p < 0.05). However, there were no significant differences among the angles. Among dynamic balance items, the forward direction showed significant differences between before and after the exercises, as well as among the various angles (p < 0.05).

      • 스피드 스케이팅 경기복 항력감소를 위한 풍동시험 연구

        3년(’14년~’16년)에 걸쳐 스피드 스케이팅 경기복에 대한 항력 특성 분석을 위한 풍동시험 연구를 수행하였다. 풍동시험의 목적은 한국스포츠 개발원에서 스피드 스케이팅 경기력 향상을 위해 개발한 경기복에 대해 기존의 제품과의 항력특성을 분석하는 것이다. 항력특성을 분석을 위해 실제 스피드 스케이팅 경기중 가장 많은 비중을 차지하는 Glide 포즈 형상의 마네킹을 제작하여 경기복을 착용시킨 후 항력을 측정하였다. 데이터의 신뢰성을 확보하기 위해 각 경기복 별로 3회 반복시험을 실시하였으며, 시험결과 한국스포츠 개발원에서 개발한 경기복이 기존의 시제품보다 0.6 ~ 2.7%가량의 항력 저감효과가 있는 것으로 확인하였다. A wind tunnel study for drag reduction of speed skating suits were performed at KAFA subsonic wind tunnel laboratory in the past three years. The objective of wind tunnel test is to analyze the drag characteristics of newly developed speed skating suit by comparing existing suits. In this study, 1 newly developed suits and 4 existing suits were performed in wind tunnel test. Three repetition test are performed to verify the accuracy of experimental data. The results show that the drag characteristics of newly developed suits better than the existing ones, which reduced the total drag by 0.6~2.7%.
