Staphylococcus lugdunensis is a coagulase-negative staphylococcus (CNS) that is commonly found on the human perineal skin. Contrary to other CNS, S. lugdunensis is a rare contaminant in cultures and has the potential to cause clinically significant infections, including infective endocarditis. Infective endocarditis due to S. lugdunensis have been known to resemble endocarditis due to S. aureus because of its aggressive clinical course and high mortality. We report a case of infective endocarditis caused by S. lugdunensis in a 21-year-old woman. She was cured of the infection with surgical and antibiotic therapy. S. lugdunensis에 의한 감염성 심내막염은 국내에서보고가 없었던 매우 드물지만 다양한 합병증과 높은 사망률을 보이는 감염증이다. 저자들은 S. lugdunensis가 수술적 치료와 항생제 치료로 완치된 감염성 심내막염 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

국내 석탄화력 발전소에서 폐기되는 석탄회를 이용하여 폐수 중 암모니아성 질소 제거용 흡착제를 제조하고자 NaOH를 반응물로 한 수열합성 반응을 이용, 제올라이트를 합성하였으며 제조된 제올라이트를 실제공정에 활용하기 위하여 흡착실험 및 공정모사를 수행하였다. 또한 흡착제를 구형으로 제조하여 암모니아성 질소의 등온 흡착 공정에 이용하였으며 이 결과 Langmuir, Freundlich 및 Sips 식에 잘 일치함을 알 수 있었다. 고정층에서의 흡착 거동은 축 방향 분산흐름, 입자 내부에서의 표면확산 및 Sips 흡착 등온식을 바탕으로 한 고정층 흡착 모델의 주요 공정 변수에 대한 파과곡선을 잘 모사할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. Zeolite was synthesized from coal fly ash produced by a domestic power plant and applied for the removal of ammonia from waste water. Zeolite was synthezied using a hydrothermal method involving an akaline reaction with NaOH, and adsorption experiments and simulations were performed with the pellectized zeolite. The experimental data obtained from adsorption isotherms were consistent with the Langmuir, Freundlich and Sips equation. Also, most of the correlated results for the fixed bed model based on surface diffusion and Sips adsorption isotherms equation were consistent with the experimental data.
만성 간질환에서 혈청 Type Ⅳ Collagen 측정의 의의

To evaluate the clinical significance of serum type N collagen levels in patients with various liver diseases, serum type IV collagen levels were measured by one-step sandwich enzyme immunoassay using monoclonal antibodies in 80 patients from December 1993 to December 1994 at Chung Nam National University Hospital. The results were as follows : 1. Mean age of patients was 45 years. Men was 2.1 times more than women. 2. Compared to 15 normal controls(159.9±34.0 ng/ml), serum type IV collagens were significantly elevated in patients with chronic hepatitis (254.5±158.0 ng/ml), liver cirrhosis(281.0±195.7 ng/ml) and hepatocellular carcinoma(420.5±241.4 ng/ml) (p<0.005). 3. Serum type IV collagen levels were increased without significance in patients with alcholic liver cirrhosis(331.6±244.5 ng/ml) compared to non-alcholic cirrhosis(230.4±117.8 ng/ml. p>0.05). 4. The serum levels of type IV collagen were not correlated with the levels of alanine amino-trnasferase(ALT), aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and alkaline phosphatase(ALP). The results suggest that the serum type IV collagen levels correlate well with the degree of progression of chronic liver diseases. Therefore the measurement of serum type IV collagen is relatively simple and useful method to reflect the progression of chronic liver diseases.

특수형 방사성물질 운반캡슐은 국내외의 수송관련 법규에 규정된 기술기준을 만족하도록 설계, 제작되어야 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 하나로에서 생산된 192Ir 특수형 동위원소 운반캡슐의 건전성을 평가하는데 있다. 법규에서 규정된 낙하시험, 타격시험, 굽힘시헝 및 가열시험조건에 대한 안전성 시험을 수행하였으며, 각각의 시험 전후에 누설시험을 수행하였다. 또한, 안전성시험과 더불어 컴퓨터코드를 이용한 전산해석을 수행하여 안전성시험 전에 시험결과에 대한 예측자료로 활용되었다. 낙하시험 및 가열시험 결과 캡슐 표면에서 약간의 흠집과 변형이 발생하였으나, 각각의 시험에서 평가기준이 되는 캡슐의 손상이나 용융 등은 발생하지 않았다. 또한 각 시험 후 수행한 누설시험 결과 누설이 발생하지 않았다. 따라서 특수형 방사성물질 운반캡슐은 법규에서 규정하는 기술기준을 만족하도록 설계, 제작되었음이 입증되었다. All of sealing capsules to transport a special form radioactive material should be designed and fabricated in accordance with the design criteria prescribed in IAEA standards and domestic regulations. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the safety of a shipping capsule for 192Ir special form radioisotope which produceed in the HANARO. The safety tests were carried out for the impact, percussion, bending and heat test conditions. And leakage tests were carried out before and after the each test. Also, the safety analyses were performed using computer codes in order to verify the test results. The capsule showed slight scratches and deformation, and maintained its structural and thermal integrities in all tests without any severe damage or melting. It also met the allowable limits of leakage rate after earth test. Therefore, it has been verified that the capsule was designed and fabricated to meet all requirements for the special form.

Florid cemento-osseous dysplasia (FCOD) is a fibro-osseous lesion that characteristically affects the jaw bones of multi-quadrant radiopaque cementum-like masses. FCOD is a rare condition affecting jaw bones and is diagnosed principally by its characteristic clinico-radiological features. As the condition remains asymptomatic, no surgical treatment is required. However, surgical trauma in the form of a biopsy, tooth extraction, or poor fitting dentures can lead to a chronically draining site that does not heal and can progress to osteomyelitis. Treatment of osteomyelitis depends on appropriate antibiotic therapy and often requires surgical removal of infected and necrotic tissue. This paper reports a rare case of FCOD affecting mandible with osteomyelitis.
