      • Elevated TRAF2/6 expression in Parkinson's disease is caused by the loss of Parkin E3 ligase activity.

        <P>Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second leading neurodegenerative disease, and is known to be induced by environmental factors or genetic mutations. Among the verified genetic mutations of PD, Parkin, isolated from the PARK2 locus, shows an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern and is known to be an E3 ligase. However, the physiological target of Parkin and the molecular mechanism of Parkin-deficiency-induced PD have not been clearly demonstrated until now. It has recently been proposed that inflammation, suggesting as a causal factor for PD, is enhanced by Parkin deficiency. Thus, we examined the relationship between inflammation-related factors and Parkin. Here, we provide the evidence that Parkin suppresses inflammation and cytokine-induced cell death by promoting the proteasomal degradation of TRAF2/6 (TNF-α receptor-associated factor 2/6). Overexpression of Parkin can reduce the half-lives of TRAF2 and TRAF6, whereas si-Parkin can extend them. However, mutant Parkins did not alter the expression of TRAF2/6. Thus, loss of Parkin enhances sensitivity to TNF-α- or IL-1β-induced JNK activation and NF-κB activation. Indeed, si-Parkin-induced apoptosis is suppressed by the knockdown of TRAF6 or TRAF2. We also observed elevated expression levels of TRAF6 and a reduction of IκB in an 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine-induced PD mouse model. Moreover, elevated expression levels or aggregation of TRAF6 were detected in approximately half of the human PD tissues (7/15 cases) and 2 cases, respectively. In addition, TRAF6 and Parkin expression levels show a reverse relationship in human PD tissues. Our results strongly suggest that the reduction of Parkin or overexpression of TRAF2/6 by chronic inflammation would be the reason for occurrence of PD.</P>

        Mycobacterium mageritense에 의한 당뇨병성 족부 감염증 1예

        Diabetic foot infection is one of the important complications in patients with advanced diabetes mellitus. Limb threatening infections such as osteomyelitis, abscess, and necrotizing fasciitis are frequently accompanied by the disease. Non-tuberculous mycobacterium (NTM) is a rare causative organism of diabetic foot infection. Thus, if one is not suspicious or meticulous, infection due to NTM will be easily overlooked and this will result in delayed diagnose and treat. Therefore, it is necessary to consider NTM as the causative organism if the wound does not respond to the conventional antibiotic treatment and the culture from the adequately obtained specimen reveals atypical acid-fast bacilli. We present a case of diabetic foot infection with osteomyelitis and abscess due to Mycobacterium mageritense, one of the rapid growing mycobacteria, that was successfully treated with surgical debridement and appropriate antibiotic treatment.

        오늘날 현저한 CO2 레이저의 응용 추세에 발맞추어 보다 다양한 형태의 출력 제어 기술이 대두되고 있다. 본연구에서는multi-Pulse Superposing-Discharge 기술을 이용하여 다양한형태의 CO2 레이저의 펄스를 성형 하였다. 펄스 성형을 위한 방법으로 PIC one-chip microprocessor를 이용하여 삼중 PFN 모률의 SCR을 각각 고유의 지연시간을 가지도록 제어하였다. 실험에 사용된 삼중 PFN 모률의 전원 회로는 각각 캐패시터 인덕터,SCR,고압 펄스 트랜스 그리고 고압 트랜스 2차측에 브릿지 정류기로 구성 하였다. 고압 펼스 트랜스의 1차측을 제어하므로서 PFN 모률의 동작을 저 전압에서 수행 할 수 있다. 트랜스의 2차측에 연결된 전파 정류기는 펄스 에너지를 부하에 지속적으로 전달한다. 본 연구에서는 삼중 PFN 모률의 각각의 SCR을 다른 시간 가격을 두고 트리거 하므로서 다양한 Long pulse shaping을 실현하였다. 또한 약 250-1000μs 의 주기를 가지는 다양한 펄스형 레이저 빔을 얻었다.

No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

        습지생태공원의 갈대확장 조절 기술 개발

        It is very difficult to control the expansion of reed at a wetland ecological park due to their aggressive reproduction capability. Therefore, proper topography and wetland hydrology should be provided before the construction of a wetland ecological park. Appropriate measures should be taken at the initial stages to prevent reed expansion. Field experiments were conducted at the newly constructed wetland ecological park for 15 months to develop methods to control the reproduction and expansion of Phragmites communis. A complete shading method had the best effect on the prevention of reed reoccurrence among other methods. Complete removal of the rhizomes controlled the reed growth to a greater extent than cutting the aboveground shoots. Water-level manipulation was also better than a half-shading method for the prevention of reed reproduction. These results indicated that soil properties and edge effects can influence the reed growth. Cutting only the aboveground shoots facilitates the growth of reed. These results suggest that reed control should be implemented repeatedly and an alteration in the wetland topography and hydrology may be more effective in the long term. Combination of treatments such as water-level management with shading should be considered to control the growth of reed. Adoptive management for created or restored ecosystem might be considered for accomplishment of its original purpose.

      • 최초 임상증상으로 볼부위의 종괴로 나타난 전이성 신세포암 : 증례보고

        신세포암의 골격근으로의 전이는 매우 드문경우로 현재까지 약 20편정도의 증예 보고만이 있을뿐이다. 우리는 이 증례보고에서 매우 드문 경우인 최초 임상증상으로 볼부위의 종괴를 주소로 내원후 전이성 신세포암으로 진단받은 65세 남자의 증례와 전이성 신세포암이 골격근으로 전이된 경우의 문헌들을 리뷰하였다. 환자는 내원 3개월전 왼쪽 볼부위에 무통성 종괴가 있는것을 처음 인지하였다. 절제된 종괴의 병리학적 소견은 전이성 신세포암으로 나타났으며 영상의학검사상 좌측신장에 6x5㎝ 크기의 종괴를 보였고 양측 폐에 다수의 작은 결절들을 보였다. 환자는 근치적 신절제술을 받았으며 이후 폐전이에 대해 5-fluorouracil, interferon-a과 interleukin-2을 이용한 변역요법을 시행하였다. 이후 폐 전산화단층촬영상 암이 진행된 것으로 나타나 Sutene^(?)을 이용한 경구 표적요법을 시행중이다.

      • 卵重이 孵化率에 미치는 影響

        2年生 White Leghorn의 種卵 1,600개를 卵重別로 購入하여 卵重이 부화율에 미치는 영향을 규명하기 위하여 부화시켰던 바 다음과 같은 結果를 얻었다. 1.標準卵重인 56∼59g인 T_3區는 부화율이 84%로서 T_1區(52∼63g), T_2區(52∼55g), T_4區(60∼63g)보다 높았다. 2.過大卵이 小卵보다는 孵化率이 낮았다. This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of egg weight on the hatchability. 1,600 hatchability eggs laid from 2 year old white Leghorn were used by egg weight level. The results obtained were as follows; 1.T_3 lot (56∼59g), with 84% had the highest hatchability of T_1 lot (52∼63g), T_2 lot (52∼55g) and T_4 lot (60∼63g). 2.Heavier hatching eggs had lower hatchability than the light hatching eggs.

      • 慶北 一部 貯水池의 淡水魚에서 肝吸蟲 被囊幼蟲의 消失

        1990年 4月부터 同年 9月까지 大邱市 丹山池, 慶北 永川郡 紫陽湖 및 安康 霞谷池에서 採集되는 各鍾 淡水魚에서 吸蟲類 被囊幼蟲의 寄生狀을 調査하여 1960年에 調査된 丹山池 및 霞谷池에서의 成績과 比較하였다. 3개처의 못과 湖에, 採集 魚鍾은 붕어(Carassius carassius), 몰개(Gnathopogon atromaculatus), 납지리(Paracheilognathus rhombea) 및 참붕어(Pseudorasbora parva)의 4鍾으로 이중 몰개와 참붕어가 優占鍾이었다. 1960年에는 몰개 및 참붕어에서 肝吸蟲 被囊幼蟲의 寄生率 58.8%에서 83.6%, 寄生程度 4.5에서 8.3個로 檢出되었으나 이번 調査에서는 전혀 檢出되지 않았다. 이상의 成績으로 미루어보아 이들 3個處의 貯水池는 더 이상 肝吸蟲의 浸潤地가 아님을 알았다. In order to compare the infestation status with larval trematodes with that in 1960, fresh-water fish were collected in the Dansan and Hagok ponds and Jayang lake from May to October 1990, and examined for the presence of Clonorchis sinensis metacercaria. Four species of fresh-water fish, the crusian carp, Carassius carassius, the korean shiner, Gnathopogon atromaculatus, the flat bitterling, Paracheilognathus rhombea, and the southern top-mouthed minnow, Pseudorasbora parva were collected in the pond. G. atromaculatus and P. parva were collected frequently in the Dansan pond and Jayang lake. In 1960, C. sinensis metacercaria was demonstrated at the rate between 58.8 and 83.6% and the intensity between 4.5 and 8.3. However, no metacercaria was detected in 1990. In the light of these results, the ponds Dansan and Hagok and lake Jayang are no longer endemic foci C. sinensis.

      • 발달지연 아동 및 뇌성마비 아동의 평가실태와 물리치료사들의 평가에 대한 인식도 조사

        The purpose of this study were to research the current stat of evaluation of children with delayed development and cerebral palsy and determine pediatric physical therapists's knowledge of assessment tools and their use. The subjects were 130 pediatric physical therapists (general hospitals, university-related hospitals, rehabilitation centers, etc.). Data was obtained form August 24, 1999 to October 18, 1999 by means of a survey questionnaire. The results were as follows: 1. the current state of pediatric physical therapist evaluation of children with delayed development and cerebral palsy. 1) Tools used to assess functional areas of children with cerebral palsy were: subjective description format-128 (47.1%); the GMFM-58 (21.3%); facility-generated tool-51 (18.8%); and DDST-15 (5.5%) 2) Tools used to assess developmentally delayed children were: subjective description format-121 (50.6%); the GMFM-43 (18.0%); facility-generated tool-41 (17.2%); and DDST-14 (5.9%). 3) After their college or university study, therapists who had attended lectures on evaluation were 113 (86.9%); 13 (10.0%) therapists had not attended any lectures on evaluation. 2. Test scores of physical therapists' professional knowledge of evaluation procedures: high (more than 36 points)-74 (56.9%); moderate (18~35 points)-39 (30.0%); and low (below 17 points)-none. 1) For therapists treating cerebral palsied children, 73 (65.2%) were in the high range, 39 (34.8%) were in the moderate rage and none were in the low range. 2) For therapists treating children with delayed development, 71 (65.7%) were in the high range, 37 (34.3%) were in the moderate range and none were in low range. Although the general degree of professional knowledge of evaluation was quite high, there was a lack of variety in the assessment tools used with a large number of therapists depending on subjective description. Possible reasons for the low rate of objective assessment tool use: 1) Poor clinical environment: Too many clients and limited treatment time. 2) Lack of any medical insurance fee category for specific assessment tools. 3) Lack of continuing education opportunities in pediatric evaluation skills during or after either college-based(3 year) or university-based(4 year) education programs. Based on the study results, provision of more extended educational opportunities would promote the use of a greater variety of objective assessment tools by pediatric physical therapists.
