      • A Basic Study on Leaf and Stem Production of Angelica acutiloba

        This study was conducted to develop effective production system in greenhouse for leaves and stems of Angelica acutiloba by using connect pots in 2003 and 2004. Seed germination rate and plant biomass of Angelica acutiloba collected in 2004 were higher than those harvested in 2003. Germination rate of Angelica acutiloba seeds collected in 2003 was 10%, while germination rate of seeds collected in 2004 was above 90%. Especially, plant growth and yield of Angelica acutiloba grown in connect pots sized with 4×4×5cm(length×width×height) were the highest. These results indicate that leaf and stem production of Angelica acutiloba can be improved by using connect pots and optimizing seed collecting time in greenhouse.

        흰쥐에서 심정지후 뇌의 허혈-재관류 손상과 Tumor Necrosis Factor-α의 상관관계

        Background : Tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) has been thought to play a major role in neurological injury during global brain ischemia and subsequent reperfusion following resuscitation in cardiac arrest. So, we hypothesized that the elevation in TNF-α was dependent upon the duration of the global brain ischemia, and related to delayed neuronal damage. Methods : Fourteen rats were divided two groups ; 1 minute-cardiac arrest group(n=7) and 3 minute-cardiac arrest group(n=7). we induced cardiac arrest by chest compression and clamping of tracheal tube for 1 minute and 3 minutes respectively. And then, resuscitation was initiated. To measure the plasma activity of TNF-α, blood samples were drawn before and at the end of cardiac arrest, and 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes after initiation reperfusion. At 72 hours after resuscitation, the ND(neurologic deficit) score was determined and the histopathologic outcome of hippocampal CA1 neuron was observed by the percent dead hippocampal CA1 neurons. Results : 1. TNF-α level during the early reperfusion period(<2h) was significantly increased in 3 min-cardiac arrest group compared with 1 min-cardiac arrest group(p=0.0001). 2. There was a no significant difference of neurologic deficit score between 1 min-and 3 min-cardiac arrest. 3. Percent dead hippocampal neurons were significantly increased in 3 min-cardiac arrest group compared with 1 min-cardiac arrest group(9.1±1.2% vs 1.2±0.9%, p<0.05). Conclusions : The results suggest that longer duration of global brain ischemia causes a more profound increase in plasma TNF-α level during the early reperfusion period(<2h) and more delayed neuronal damage than lessor duration of global brain ischemia, and that increase in TNF-α level during the early reperfusion period(<2h) is related to delayed neuronal damage.

        유치와 영구치에서 치과용 접착제의 전단결합강도

        The objective of this study was to compare the shear bond strengths of five adhesive systems to the enamel and dentin of primary and permanent teeth. Fifty noncarious primary and fifty permanent teeth were collected and stored in an 0.1% thymol solution at room temperature after extraction. The tested adhesives were: Adper Scotchbond Multi-purpose Plus Adhesive (SM) Adper Single bond 2 (SB), Clearfil SE Bond (SE), Adper Prompt L-Pop (PL), G-Bond (GB). For the shear bonding test, the labial and lingual surfaces of primary and permanent teeth were used. To obtain a flat surface, the labial and lingual surfaces of the teeth were sanded on SiO₂with number 600 grit and then divided into 20 groups of 10 surfaces each. All samples were theromocycled in water 5℃ and 55℃ for 1000 cycles. The results were as follows: 1. For primary enamel, shear bond strengths of SM and SB were significantly higher than that of SE and also SM, SB, and PL were higher than GB(p<0.05). 2. For primary dentin, there were no significant differences among the shear bond strengths of any other bonding systems except differnece between SE and GB. 3. For permanent enamel, SB showed significantly higher mean shear bond strength than those of any other bonding systems(p<0.05). 4. For permanent dentin, SM showed significantly higher mean shear bond strength than that of PL and GB(p<0.05). 5. Between the primary enamel and dentin, there were significant differences in SM, SB, and GB, whereas there was statistically significant difference in PL between the permanent enamel and dentin(p<0.05). 6. Between the primary and permanent teeth on enamel, there were no significant differences among all bonding systems, whereas there were statistically significant differences in SM and SB between the primary and permanent teeth on dentin(p<0.05). 본 연구에서는 최근에 개발된 치과용 접착제를 대상으로 유치와 영구치의 법랑질과 상아질에 대한 결합력을 비교 평가하여 입상에서 상아질 접착제를 적절하게 선택하는데 도움을 주고자 시행하였다. 실험재료로 Adper Scotchbond Multi-purpose Plus Adhesive (SM; 3M ESPE,USA),Adper Single bond 2 (SB; 3M ESPE,USA),Clearfil SE Bond (SE; Kuraray Medical Inc.,Japan),Adper Prompt L-Pop (PL; 3M ESPE,USA),G-Bond (GB:GC Cooperation Toyko,Japan)를 이용하여 전단결합강도를 평가하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 유치 법랑질에서 전단결합강도는 SM이 28.47±7.93 MPa로 가장 높았고 SB (28.18±6.84),PL (24.02± 6.14),SE (21.70±6.56),GB (17.70±6.68) 순이었다. SM과 SB는 SE보다 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 결합 강도를 보였으며,SM,SB,PL은 GB보다 높았다(p<0.05). 2. 유치 상아질에서 전단결합강도는 SE가 28.72±14.44MPa로 가장 높았고,PL (20.10±6.13),SM 07.72± 10.65),SB (15.48±2.66),GB (10.10±5.45) 순이었으며 SE와 GB간 에는 유의한 차이가 있었으나,다른 군 들 간에는 유의한 차이가 없었다. 3. 영구치 법랑질에서의 전단결합강도는 SB가 28.36±5.68 MPa로 가장 높았고 SM (22.77±4.63), PL(22.05 士6.57),SE (21.74±4.62),GB (15.60±6.75)순이었다. SB는 다른 접착제보다 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 결합력을 나타냈으며,GB는 가장 낮은 결합력을 보였다(p(0.05). 4. 영구치 상아질에서의 전단결합강도는 SM이 28.22±5.56 MPa로 가장 높았고,SB (21.68±7.44),SE (20.13 ±9.88),GB (14.30±6.81),PL (14.18±5.88)순이었으며,SM은 PL,GB와 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 5. 유치의 법랑질과 상아질 간에는 SM,SB,GB에서 유의한 차이가 있었고,영구치 법랑질과 상아질 간에는 PL에서 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.05). 6. 유치 법랑질과 영구치 법랑질 간에는 모든 접착제에서 유의한 차이가 없었으나,유치 상아질과 영구치 상아질 간에는 SM과 SB에서 유의한 차이가 있었다(p<0.05).

      • Effect of Storage Condition on Yield and Quality of Angelica acutiloba Radix

        To develop an optimal storage method of root of Angelica acutiloba Radix, which has been grown as major herbal medicine material to be cultivated, root of Angelica acutiloba Radix, was stored for 10 months with different packing materials and sealing methods. The loss in dry weight as influenced by packing materials and sealing methods was the lowest at vacuum packing and followed by complete sealing methods with transparent polyethylene film. The ratio of root rot during the storage period was not significantly different between packing materials but was significantly different between sealing conditions. In conclusion, vacuum packing and complete sealing with polyethylene film appears to be most optimal for storage of Angelica acutiloba Radix.

        괴사성 치은구내염환아의 증례보고 : CASE REPORT

        괴사성 치은염(Necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis, NUG), 괴사성 치주염(necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis, NUP),괴사성 구내염(necrotizing stomatits, NS), 그리고 수암(noma, cancrum oris)은 급속도로 파괴적이며 쇠약하게 하는 잠재성이 큰 구강감염으로 질환의 같은 진행과정에 대해 다른 임상단계로 간주되기도 하나 집합적으로 Vincent's infection, infectious oral necrosis 또는 괴사성 치은구내염(Necrotizing gingivostomati-tis, NG)라고 한다. 이러한 necrotizing gingivostomatitis(NG)의 발생률은 0.19~0.5%이며 2~6세에 가장 높은 발병율을 보인다. Necrotizing gingivostomati-tis는 치명적인 바이러스 감염과 면역체계가 약화된 경우 발생할 수 있으며 주 진단학적 증상으로 동통, 치간유두 부위의 궤양이나 괴사, 치은출혈이 있으며 이차적인 증상은 위막 등이 있다. 이에 본원 소아과에서 의뢰되어 necrotizing gingivostomatitis로 진단받은 환아의 구강내 소견 및 치료경과에 대해 보고하고자 한다. Necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis(NUG), necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis(NUP), necrotizing stomatitis(NS), and Noma(cnacrum oris) are rapidly destructive, debilitating, and potentially serious oral infection which considered to be different clinical stages of the same process. These have been collectively referred to as: Vincent's infection, infectious oral necrosis, or necrotizing gingivostomatitis(NG). Prevalence of necrotizing gingivostomatitis is 0.19~0.5% and peak incidence is 2-6 years of age. The etiology and pathogenesis of necrotizing gingivostomatitis have been associated with virulent bacteria and impaired host defense and the primary diagnostic signs are pain. interdental ulceration or necrosis. and gingival bleeding. Secondary diagnostic sign is pseudomembrane. This case report was about oral conditions and treatment of the patient who referred from the Dept. of PED and diagnosed a necorotizing gingivostomatitis.

      • Effect of Activated Charcoal on Growth of Zingiber mioga ROSC

        Activate charcoal (AC) can be utilized as a soil conditioner in agricultural crop areas. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of AC on growth and yield of Zingiber mioga ROSC as affected by different amounts of AC. The results obtained are summarized as follows. Growth characteristics including plant height and leaf length were the highest when activated charcoal added with 10-30%, suggesting that optimum amount of activated charcoal was ranged from 10 to 30%. Growth and enlargement of the root were improved by 10% AC with higher rhizome length and weight.

        응급의료센터에서 신경색의 조기진단

        To evaluate appropriate diagnostic studies for renal infartion in emergency medical center, we analysed 33 patients of renal infarction treated in this hospital for last 8 years. Eleven patients, 4 trauma associated and 7 aortic disease associated patients were excluded. They are 11 males and 11 females with a mean age of 51 years. Fourteen came to the emergency medical center and seven came to the outpatient department, in the other one patient renal infarction was developed during hospitalization with other disease. On their past history they had hypertension in 9, valvular heart disease in 5, and diabetic mellitus in 4 patients. Abdominal or flank pain was noted in 17 of 22(77%). The other symptoms were vomiting, nausea, fever and so on. On microscopic examination of initial urine in hospital, 5 patients showed more than 10 red blood cells by high power field examination. The mean lactic dehydrogenase level was 1,239 I.U/L(normal range 218-472 I.U/L), while the mean aspartate aminotransferase and mean alanine aminotransferase were 51 I.U/L(normal range 13-36 I.U/L) and 44 I.U/L(normal range 5-33 I.U/L). Abdominal ultrasonography showed positive findings in 5 of 16(31%), of which 3 were confirmed by Doppler ultrasonography. In 18, computed tomography was done and all those showed positive findings of renal infarction(100%). In conclusion, it is important that identify the elevated lactic dehdrogenase level in case of any suspicion about renal infarction and confirm by computed tomography.
