        The purpose of this research was to trace the trends in the research subjects related to housing for the elderly in Korea, U.S.A, and Japan. One hundred sixty eight researches were selected from six research journals besides Masters' and Ph. D theses published in Korea, 164 from five research journals and three research subject-lists in Japan, and 124 from three research journals in U.S.A. There were some common research areas of the elderly housing among the three countries such as facilities required for the elderly housing, general issues of the elderly housing, etc. There was some differences in the research areas. For instance, intergenerational coresidence was mainly studied in Korea. The results showed that housing policies as well as research methods related to the elderly housing are beginning areas and must be further developed to meet the rising needs of housing for the elderly in Korea.

        This study inquired into and analyzed total 560 papers (558 master's theses and 2 doctoral dissertations) in the field of Archives & Records Management published in Korea from February 2001 through February 2010 in order to examine the trend of research and changes of the study through the topics and cited analyses of the papers for a degree published in graduate schools for the major of Archives & Records Management in Korea. First, for the analysis of the general situations of the theses for a degree, the status of publication per year, subject fields, the major fields of the academic advisors, research methods, data collection methods, and the target institutions of the research were surveyed. Next, 3 precedents studies that analyzed the trend of the research for domestic journals in the field of Archives & Records Management were compared and analyzed with this study. Second, for the analysis of the cited literatures of the theses for a degree, for 262 theses published in recent 2 years (Aug. 2008~Feb. 2010), the frequency and life span of the cited literatures, etc. were analyzed. In addition, the domestic/foreign journals at the high ranking of citation among the cited journals were listed.

      • 錦江河口둑 建設 前後의 海洋還境 變化에 관한 硏究

        To analyze the variation of the marine environments on Kum River estuary before and after the enclosure of the dam which physical and chemical surveys were made from February, 1986 to June, 1990. The results were as follows ; 1. Water temperatures were 0.20-29.00℃ before the estuary enclosure of the dam, but 1.99∼26.87℃ after that through the years. Comparing with before the enclosure of the dam, it was high in winter and low in summer. 2. Salinity was lower after than before the enclosure of the dam. Specially it was distinguishably low on St. 1,2 by the fresh water discharge in summer. 3. Dissolved oxygen content was decreased after the enclosure of the dam, but it was rather supersaturated partially in the plankton-rich area of the inner bay. 4. pH value was higher after than before the enclosure of the dam, but it was the lowest in summer with the fresh water discharge. 5. COD was gradually increased after the enclosure of the dam and it was high in summer specially It was the reason why the inflow of city foul water was increase and the exchange ability of sea water became low and stagnated with the decrease of tidal current by the enclosure of dam. 6. TSS was greatly decreased after the enclosure of the dam and transparency was distinguishably increased. 7. Ammoniac Nitrogen among the nutritious saline was highly increased after the enclosure of the dam comparing the before. On the contrary, Phosphate-Phosphorus, Nitrite-Nitrogen and Nitrate-Nitrogen were reduced. This phenomenon was low in the closure area which was enrich to the propagation of phyto-plankton with fresh water in spring. From the above results, I feared the change of maring circumstances since that the enclosure of the dam in Kum River estuary did not weaken only the flow of the river and the tidal current, but mede the stagnated water area and the exchange ability of open sea water was low. Thus, it was required the reasonable counter plan to prevent the inflow of industrial pollution for the adequate circumstances.

      • Spontaneous Pt Deposition on Defective Surfaces of In<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> Nanocrystals Confined within Cavities of Hollow Silica Nanoshells: Pt Catalyst-Modified ITO Electrode with Enhanced ECL Performance

        <P>Although the deposition of metallic domains on a preformed semiconductor nanocrystal provides an effective pathway to access diverse hybrid nanocrystals with synergistic In2O3 metal/semiconductor heterojunction interface, those reactions that take place on the surface of semiconductor nanoscrystals have not been investigated thoroughly, because of the impediments caused by the surface-capping organic surfactants. By exploiting the interfacial reactions occurring between the solution and nanoparticles confined with the cavities of hollow nanoparticles, we propose a novel nanospace-confined strategy for assessing the innate reactivity of surfaces of inorganic semiconductor nanoparticles. This strategy was adopted to investigate the newly discovered process of spontaneous Pt deposition on In2O3 nanocrystals. Through an in-depth examination involving varying key reaction parameters, the Pt deposition process was identified to be templated by the defective In2O3 surface via a unique redox process involving the oxygen vacancies in the In2O3 lattice, whose density can be controlled by high-temperature annealing. The product of the Pt-deposition reaction inside the hollow silica nanoparticle, bearing In2O3-supported Pt catalysts inside the cavity protected by a porous silica shell, was proved to be an effective nanoreactor system which selectively and sustainably catalyzed the reduction reaction of small-sized aromatic nitro-compounds. Moreover, the surfactant-free and electroless Pt deposition protocol, which was devised based on the surface chemistry of the In2O3 nanoparticles, was successfully employed to fabricate Pt-catalyst-modified ITO electrodes.with enhanced electrogenerated chemiluminescece (ECL) performance.</P>

        Abstract-In order to investigate the phamacological properties of New Wonbang Woohwangchungsimwon Pill (NSCH), effects of Wonbang Woohwangchungsimwon Pill (SCH) and NSCH were compared using various experimental models. In rat aorta, NSCH and SCH made the relaxation of blood vessels in maximum contractile response to phenylephrine (10^-6 M) regardless to endothelium containing or denuded rings of the rat aorta. Furthermore, the presence of the inhibitors of NO synthase and guanylate cyclase did not aftect significantly the relaxing effects of NSCH and SCH, NSCH and SCH inhibited the vascular contractions induced by acetylcholine, prostaglandin endoperoxide or peroxide in a dose-dependent manner. In conscious spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). NSCH and SCH decreased significantly heart rate. These, at high doses, had a negative inotropic effect that was a decrease of left ventricular developed pressure and (-dp/dt)/(+dp/dt) in the isolated perfused rat hearts, and also decreased the contractile force and heart rate in the isolated rat right atria. In guinea-pig papillary muscle, these had no effects on parameters of action potential such as action potential amplitude (APA). V_max and resting membrane potential (RMP) at low doses, whereas inhibited the cardiac contractility at high doses. Furthermore, these had a significant inhibitory effects on palpitation of the heart in normotensive rats and SHRs. These results suggest that NSCH and SCH have weak cardiovascular effects, and that there is no significant differences between cardiovascular effects of two preparations.

        The clinical and economic burden of communityonset complicated skin and skin structure infections in Korea

        Background/Aims: To investigate epidemiologic characteristics, clinical and economic burdens, and factors associated with mortality in complicated skin and skin structure infection (cSSSI) patients in Korea. Methods: A retrospective, observational, nationwide study was conducted between April to July 2012 at 14 tertiary-hospitals in Korea. Eligible patients were hospitalized adults with community acquired cSSSI, who underwent surgical intervention and completed treatment between November 2009 and October 2011. Data on demography, clinical characteristics, outcomes and medical resource utilization were collected through medical record review. Direct medical costs were calculated by multiplying quantities of resources utilized by each unit price in Korea. Results: Of 473 patients enrolled, 449 patients (except 24 patients with no record on surgical intervention) were eligible for analysis. Microbiological testing was performed on 66.1% of patients and 8.2% had multiple pathogens. Among culture confirmed pathogens (n = 297 patients, 340 episodes), 76.2% were gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus; 41.2%) and 23.8% were gram-negative. The median duration of hospital stay was 16 days. Among treated patients, 3.3% experienced recurrence and 4.2% died in-hospital. The mean direct medical costs amounted to $4,195/ person, with the greatest expenses for hospitalization and antibiotics. The in-hospital mortality and total medical costs were higher in combined antibiotics therapy than monotherapy (p < 0.05). Charlson’s comorbidity index ≥ 3, standardized early warning scoring ≥ 4, sub-fascia infections and combined initial therapy, were all found to be associated with higher mortality. Conclusions: Korean patients with community-onset cSSSI suffer from considerable clinical and economic burden. Efforts should be made to reduce this burden through appropriate initial treatment.

        Is renal replacement therapy necessary in deceased donor liver transplantation candidates with hepatorenal syndrome?: a 2-year experience at a high-volume center

        Purpose: Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is a fatal complication in patients with end-stage liver disease awaiting liver transplantation (LT). HRS often develops in patients with high model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score. This study investigated the outcomes of peritransplant management of HRS in a high-volume LT center in Korea for 2 years. Methods: A total of 157 recipients that deceased donor liver transplantation (DDLT) from January 2017 to December 2018 were included. In-hospital mortality (IHM) was analyzed in relation to pre- and posttransplant application of renal replacement therapy (RRT). Results: Primary diagnoses for DDLT were alcoholic liver disease (n = 61), HBV-associated liver cirrhosis (n = 48), retransplantation for chronic graft failure (n = 24), and others (n = 24). Mean MELD score was 34.6 ± 6.2 with 72 patients at Korean Network for Organ Sharing MELD status 2 (45.9%), 43 at status 3 (27.4%), 36 at status 4 (22.9%), and 6 at status 5 (3.8%). Pretransplant RRT was performed in 16 patients (10.2%) that did not show IHM. Posttransplant RRT was performed in 69 patients (44.0%), for whom IHM incidence was 15.9%. In 53 patients that had undergone de novo posttransplant RRT, IHM incidence increased to 20.8%. IHM in the 88 patients not requiring RRT was 2.3%. Conclusion: The majority of adult DDLT recipients in Korean MELD score-based allocation system have very high MELD scores, which is often associated with HRS. Pretransplant RRT appears to improve posttransplant survival outcomes. We thereby recommend that, if indicated, pretransplant RRT be performed while awaiting DDLT.

        The Effect of Rosiglitazone on the Cell Proliferation and the Expressions of p27 and Skp2 in<i>Helicobacter pylori</i>Infected Human Gastric Epithelial Cells

        <P>Background/Aims: Ligands for peroxisome proliferator-activated receptorgamma (PPARgamma), a member of the ligand-activated nuclear receptor superfamily, exhibit anti-tumoral effects and are associated with de novo synthesis of proteins involved in regulating the cell cycle and cell survival/death. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is an etiologic agent for gastric adenocarcinoma, and raises the cell turnover of gastric epithelium. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of PPARgamma ligand rosiglitazone on the cell proliferation and the expressions of p27 and Skp2 protein in H. pylori infected gastric epithelial cells. Methods: We examined the expression of PPARgamma by Western blot in H. pylori infected AGS human gastric epithelial cells. The effect of rosiglitazone on the survival of H. pylori infected AGS cells was assessed by cell viability assay. After the treatment of rosiglitazone in H. pylori infected AGS cells, the expressions of p27 and Skp2 were assessed by Western blot. Results: The expression of PPARgamma protein was increased in H. pylori infected AGS cells. Cell growth was inhibited and decreased in dose- and time- dependent manner in H. pylori infected AGS cells treated with rosiglitazone. A decrease in Skp2 expression and a reciprocal increase in p27 expression were found in dose- and time-dependent manner in H. pylori infected AGS cells treated with rosiglitazone. Conclusions: Rosiglitazone inhibited the growth of H. pylori infected AGS cells. Rosiglitazone attenuated Skp2 expression, thereby promoting p27 accumulation in H. pylori infected human gastric epithelial cells. Further studies will be needed to find the effects of accumulation on cell turnover in H. pylori infection and the role in the H. pylori-associated gastric carcinogenesis.</P>
