        Quantification of the parameters of twisting–rotating acupuncture manipulation using a needle force measurement system

        Background: To date, much research has been conducted to measure needle manipulation quantitatively and objectively. This study was performed to quantitatively measure the differences in the amount of stimulation caused by various rotation frequencies and angles in twisting–rotating acupuncture needle manipulation. Methods: The torque Z force exerted on a tissue was measured at various rotation frequencies and angles by rotating a needle with a needle force measurement system attached to a needle insertion tissue model. Results: The results show that with rotation frequency at 60°, the torque Z force increased significantly from 0.023 N mm to 0.118 N mm as the rotation angle increased (p < 0.05). In addition, the torque Z force was significantly increased from 0.082 N mm to 0.292 N mm when the rotation angle increased from 60° to 180° at 0.15 Hz. (p < 0.05). A strong linear positive relationship between the torque Z force and rotation angle or frequency was obtained [Pearson correlation coefficient (r) > 0.88; p < 0.001]. Conclusion: The change in needle–tissue interaction force by rotating angles showed a tendency to be higher than those by rotation frequency. Further quantitative research on various manipulations will be required for a standardized education on manipulation and stimulation as well as on needle model development to become possible.

        두드러기의 침치료에 대한 최근 임상 연구 동향

        Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate recent clinical studies on the effect of acupuncture for urticaria worldwide. Methods Based on the PubMed search with the key search terms of 'urticaria, acupuncture', dated between 2002 to 2015, a total of 9 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), 3 case series, and 2 case reports have been found, and were analyzed. Results and conclusions 1. The most commonly used acupoints were Quchi (LI 11), Xuehai (SP 10), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), Dazhui (GV 14). 2. The most commonly used meridians were The Ren Channel, The Du Channel and The Gall Bladder Meridian of Foot-Shaoyang. 3. The treatment period varied from 12 days to 3 months. 4. Acupuncture treatment found to be significantly more or equally effective than the western medicine. 5. More clinical studies are needed to prove a true effectiveness of the acupuncture for urticaria. In case of laboratory tests, serum immunoglobulin E (IgE), interleukin 4 (IL-4) and Helicobacter pylori negative rate might be helpful.

      • Effect of chemical activation of ketjen blacks on hydrogen storage capacity

        In this work, the porous carbon as adsorbents were prepared by using KOH activation of ketjen blacks (KB) to improve hydrogen storage capacity. The structural and morphological properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. The textural properties were investigated by N2/77 K adsorption isotherms using Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) equation. The meso and micropore size distributions were calculated by the Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) equation and Horvath-Kawazoe (HK) method, respectively. The hydrogen storage capacities were analyzed at 77 K/1 bar. From the results, it was found that the hydrogen storage capacities were greatly influenced by chemical activation that increases specific surface area of the prepared samples.

        성장을 주소로 한방병원에 내원한 환아의 한의치료 효과: Deep Learning 기반 골연령 판독 프로그램을 활용한 증례보고

        Objectives We aimed to compare the bone age (BA) estimation by a deep learning-based program and by a specialist in pediatrics of Korean medicine using the Tanner-Whitehouse 3 (TW3) technique for the cases of children who visited a Korean medicine hospital for growth, and to report the effect of Korean medicine treatment. Methods For three children who visited the Korean medicine hospital for growth, BA estimation by the deep learning program and by the specialist in pediatrics of Korean medicine using the TW3 technique was compared, and the time required for estimation was investigated. The change of height, BA, and predicted adult height (PAH) using deep learning program after Korean medicine treatment was observed. Results BA estimation of the left hand bone X-ray by the specialist using the TW3 technique showed a difference of -0.03 to +0.15 years from the estimation by the deep learning program. The mean estimation time was 5 minutes and 49 seconds per one for the specialist and 48 seconds for the deep learning program. During the treatment period, the height percentile and PAH estimated by deep learning program were increased after Korean medicine treatment compared to baseline while acceleration of BA was suppressed compared to chronological age. Conclusions BA estimation using the deep learning program and the TW3 technique showed a difference of less than 0.15 years, and in three cases of patients with growth as the chief complaint, Korean medicine treatment increased height percentile and PAH without accelerating BA maturation.

      • Effect of nickel doping on hydrogen storage behaviors of activated carbon aerogels

        In this work, Ni doped activated carbon aerogels were prepared by using KOH activation of carbon aerogels and nickel nanoparticles deposition to improve hydrogen storage capacity. The presence of Ni particles on activated carbon aerogels was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The pore structure and specific surface area were analyzed by N2/77 K adsorption isotherms using Brunauer-Emmett- Teller (BET) equation H-K methods. The hydrogen storage capacities were evaluated by a volumetric measurement at 298 K/100 bar. It was found that the presence of Ni on activated carbon aerogels created hydrogen-favorable sites which can lead to an improved hydrogen storage capacity.

      • Talairach 좌표계를 이용한 뇌자기공명영상의 반자동 정합법

        이 논문은 뇌 자기 공명 영상을 Talairach 좌표계에 맞추어 반자동적으로 정합시키기 위한 방법을 제시한다. 뇌영상을 Talairach 좌표계로 변환시키기 위해서는 anterior commissure (AC), posterior commissure (PC), 최 전방점 (AP), 최 후방점 (PP), 최고점 (SP), 최저점(IP), 좌측점 (LP), 우측점 (RP)을 정해주고, 뇌의 회전각을 구하기 위해서 좌뇌와 우뇌의 가운데를 지나는 선을 지정해 준다. 이때 제안한 방법을 쓰면 뇌를 좀더 쉽고 안정된 방법으로 정합할 수 있게 된다. 이 논문에서는 일단 뇌의 midsagittal plane을 추출해 내기 위해 사용자가 axial, coronal 방향에서 각각 두 개씩의 점을 지정해준다. 이후 원형정합을 이용하여 Corpus Callosum의 대강의 위치를 찾아내고 다음 단계에서 그 주변의 영역에 대한 원형정합을 통하여 정확한 AC와 PC의 위치를 찾아낸다. 마지막으로 단면의 밝기 정보를 이용하여 뇌의 경계를 이루는 나머지 점들을 찾을 수 있는데 이렇게 찾아낸 점들로 뇌자기공명영상을 정합하면 좀더 편리하고 안정적인 정합 결과를 얻을 수 있다. A semi-automatic registration process of determining specified points is presented, which is required to register brain MR images based on Talairach atlas. Generally, ten specified points that define Talairach coordinates are anterior commissure(AC), posterior commissure (PC), anterior feint (AP), posterior point (PP), superior point (SP), inferior point (IP), left point (LP), right point (RP) and two points for the midline of the brain. The suggested method reduces user interaction for S points, and finds the necessary points for registration in a more stable manner by finding AC and PC using two-level shape matching of the corpus callosum (CC) in an edge-enhanced brain M image. Remaining points are found using the intensity information of cutview.

      • P-10 Comparison of severe respiratory events requiring ICU admission in patients transferred from secondary hospitals and those from long term care beds in institutions and hospitals

        Background: We aim to identify the clinical features and outcomes of patients with severe respiratory events transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a tertiary referral hospital from secondary hospitals and long-term care beds in institutions and hospitals (LTCHs). Methods: Following a retrospective review of clinical data between 2010 and 2016, we included a total of 253 patients(142 from secondary hospitals vs. 111 from LTCHs) requiring ICU admission transferred from another hospital due to severe respiratory events. Results: Mean age was higher (76 years vs. 71 years, p=0.001) and neurological comorbidities were more common (53.2% vs. 22.0%) in the LTCHs group. Pneumonia was the most common cause of ICU admission in both groups (89.2% [99/111] in LCTH transfers; 81.7% [116/142] in secondary hospital transfers). Multidrug-resistant (MDR) respiratory pathogens (47.7% vs. 14.4%, p<0.0001), the need for invasive ventilation (69.4% vs. 55.7%, p=0.018), and the development of acute respiratory distress syndrome (26.1% vs. 7.9%, p<0.0001) were more common in the LTCH group. However, there were no significant differences in hospital mortality (19.8% vs. 22.7%, p=0.800) between the two groups. Aging and lower serum albumin level were independent predictors of in-hospital mortality in total subjects. Conclusion: The clinical progresses were worse in the LTCH group regardless of in-hospital mortality. Considering the prevalence of MDR pathogens, selection of appropriate antibiotics in patients with pneumonia is essential, especially in patients transferred from LTCHs.

        소아 청소년의 과민성 장증후군이 식습관, 피로감에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate how irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) affects fatigue scales and eating habits in children and adolescents using Rome IV criteria. Methods Questionnaires and The PedsQLTM Multidimensional Fatigue Scale (MFS) have been given to 211 children and adolescents aged 8 to 18 years old who were admitted to ○○ university Korean medicine hospital pediatric departments, from 29th, July, 2016 to 12th, August, 2016 to evaluate their eating habits and fatigue. Additionally, PASW statistics 18.0 were used to analyze influence of irritable bowel syndrome on eating habits and fatigue in children and adolescents by using chi-square test, independent t-test and linear regression. Results In total of 211 subjects, 29 (13.7%) were diagnosed with IBS according to the Rome IV criteria. 1. There was a statistically significant difference (p<0.05) between IBS group and non-IBS group on a specific question in the eating habit questionnaire: the amount of sugar intake and the prevalence of IBS. 2. There was a statistically significant difference in general fatigue and cognitive fatigue categories when comparing the MFS subscores according to the prevalence of IBS. Conclusions Considering patients eating habits and fatigue is a necessary process for the successful treatment of irritable bowel syndrome. Korean medicine that maximizes quality of life while minimizing the potential risks to the patients of gastrointestinal disease should also include administrative interventions that may be helpful in the daily life of IBS patients.

        0.18 ㎛ CMOS 공정을 이용한 실리콘 뉴런 회로 설계

        Using 0.18 ㎛ CMOS process silicon neuron circuit of the pulse type for modeling biological neurons, were designed in thesemiconductor integrated circuit. Neuron circuiSt providing is formed by MOS switch for initializing the input terminal of thecapacitor to the input current signal, a pulse signal and an amplifier stage for generating an output voltage signal. Synapsecircuit that can convert the current signal output of the input voltage signal, using a bump circuit consisting of NMOS transistorsand PMOS few. Configure a chain of neurons for verification of the neuron model that provides synaptic neurons andtwo are connected in series, were performed SPICE simulation. Result of simulation, it was confirmed the normal operationof the synaptic transmission characteristics of the signal generation of nerve cells. 생물학적 신경 세포의 모델링을 위한 펄스타입 실리콘 뉴런 회로를 0.18 ㎛ CMOS 공정을 이용하여 반도체 집적회로로 설계하였다. 제안하는 뉴런 회로는 입력 전류신호를 위한 커패시터 입력단과, 출력 전압신호 생성을 위한 증폭단 및 펄스신호 초기화를 위한 MOS 스위치로 구성된다. 전압신호 입력을 전류신호 출력으로 변환하는 기능의 시냅스 회로는 몇 개의PMOS와 NMOS 트랜지스터로 이루어지는 범프회로를 사용한다. 제안하는 뉴런 모델의 검증을 위하여, 2개의 뉴런과 시냅스가 직렬연결된 뉴런체인을 구성하여 SPICE 모의실험을 실시하였다. 모의실험 결과, 뉴런신호의 생성과 시냅스 전달특성의 정상적인 동작을 확인하였다.
