This paper examines how the rapid suburbanization in Seoul's suburbs impacts the local residents who have been lived there for a long time under rural condition. The basic assumption of the paper is that newcomers from the city have greatly influenced local people' value system, involvement of specialized business, and behavior. The material for the analysis was obtained from interviews with residents using questionnaires. The major findings of this study are: First, there is a spatial segregation of natives and newcomers based on socio-economic status. Second, based on the investigation of the native and newcomer population, the impact of social differentiation could be identified as several subgroups of households based on resident periods, education, and career categories. The residents' spatial activity-shopping behaviour and recreation activity-is affected by the length of time they had lived in the area and their education degree. Particulary, many households who have a high level of education tend to orient easily to the urban way of life. On the other hand, the degree of neighborhood integration and social interaction among the native and newcomer groups has been limited and is deteriorating. Third is the degree of social disintegration. Traditional localism and regionalism is loosing ground among both groups. They are becoming a more homogeneous group of urban dwellers. To synthesize the results mentioned above, the heterogeneous or diversity of residents is weakening the social relationship in community life, and increasing the acceleration of social specialization. This trend has an important influence on regional character.

The antimicrobial effects of the natural flavonoids kaempferol, quercetin, apigenin, and naringenin as well as a novel flavonoid 7-O-butyl naringenin against the growth of four meat-born Staphylococcus aureus strains were evaluated. First, the flavonoids were screened for inhibitory effects against the growth of each strain using the paper disc diffusion method. Second, the growth inhibitory effects of flavonoids that showed antimicrobial activity were measured using the microplate method. Third, the bactericidal effects of flavonoids were evaluated in a 0.8% (w/v) NaCl solution. All flavonoids showed bacteriostatic effects at >20 mM. Among the flavonoids studied, quercetin was more effective than the others tested. However, the inhibitory effect of 7-O-butyl naringenin on growth of S. aureus KCCM 32395 was greater than that of quercetin at the same concentration. Additionally, 7-O-butyl naringenin exhibited significant bactericidal effects at >25 μM. When bacterial cells were examined using scanning electron microscopy, it appeared that the S. aureus membranes were damaged or morphologically changed when treated with quercetin and 7-O-butyl naringenin at 200 μM.

With increasing of GDP, the registration number of passenger cars has exceeded 20 million last year in Korea. Especially, the registration number of the diesel engine vehicles has been increasing. However, the WHO(World Health Organization) IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) has reported that diesel engine exhaust gas is an one of HAPs, which has carcinogenic for human, and they have designated it to Group 1. To solve this problem, exhaust gas from diesel engines has to be controlled. Thus, it has been controlling by European regulatory standard in Korea. On the other hand, in order to meet the enhanced emission regulations, all manufacturing company applied $NO_x$ control device to vehicles such as EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and so on. However, these devices (EGR, SCR) were operated by difference reaction mechanism respectively, and the composition of exhaust gas would be differenced from that of them. In this study, it was conducted to evaluate variety characteristics on changing of exhaust gas composition by each $NO_x$ control device, and the heavy duty diesel trucks were chosen as experimental vehicles. From the result, it revealed that vehicles (with EGR) were discharged higher THC as 52.5% than that of others (with SCR). However, it did not followed that trend, in the case of CO; it was discharged as 57.2% lower than that of others (with SCR). In the future, these data would be used to apply to efficient $NO_x$ control device for meeting to EURO 6.

This paper presents a novel technique to express 3D digital garment data as 2D vectorized graphic file format. The 3D garment mesh data, generated by 3D apparel CAD systems, were projected to 2D image plane, maintaining the triangular mesh and color information. The projected image was saved as scalable vectorized graphics (SVG) file format. Each triangle element comprised of three triangular components to express Gouraud shading. To preserve the in-plane continuous Gouraud shading, pseudo-Bernstein polynomial coefficient was adopted. The proposed method was compared with the results of conventional 2D raster-type images.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are well known as ozone precursors from photochemical reactions and contribute to the formation of photochemical smog which pose health hazards. Also, some of these compounds directly affect the human health due to their toxicity such as benzene. In this study, NMVOCs composition in exhaust gas from recreational vehicle (RV) and (MPV) were characterized using a chassis dynamometer. The results for NMVOCs have reported that alkanes emission was higher than alkenes, aromatics and cycloalkanes due to reactive of diesel oxidation catalysts. The NMVOCs composition according to carbon number was highly distributed between C3 and C6~C8. During the engine cold start condition, NMVOCs emission was higher compared to the engine hot start condition due to the increased catalytic activity. The NMVOCs emission with DPF increased compared to that without DPF. The results of this study will be provide to calculate VOCs emissions from mobile source.
Antioxidant, Antimicrobial, and Cytotoxic Activities of Ovotransferrin from Egg White
문선희,이재훈,이용주,백지연,안동욱,백현동 한국축산식품학회 2012 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.32 No.5
The antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cytotoxic activities of ovotransferrin were investigated in vitro. The antioxidant capacity of ovotransferrin was evaluated using the 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging method, antimicrobial effects using the agar well diffusion method, and cytotoxicity using the 3-(4,5-dimethylthizol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenylatetetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. The DPPH radical-scavenging capacity of ovotransferrin at 1 mg/mL level reached approximately 60% after 48 h of reaction. The antimicrobial effects of ovotransferrin against common food-borne pathogens, Staphylococcus aureus KCCM 32395, Bacillus cereus KCCM 40935, Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 15313, Escherichia coli O157:H7ATCC 43895, and Helicobacter pylori HpKCTC 26695 were dose dependant. Gram-positive bacteria was more sensitive to ovotransferrin than gram-negative bacteria. Ovotransferrin showed stronger antimicrobial effect against L. monocytogenes than other gram-positive bacteria tested. The cytotoxicity of ovotransferrin was evaluated in human cancer cell lines, various tissue origins, including the larynx (Hep-2), stomach (AGS), lung (SK-MES-1), liver (HepG2), breast (MCF-7), cervix (HeLa), and colon (HT-29). Ovotransferrin displayed relatively high cytotoxicity (≤60% inhibition effects) at 40 mg/mL. At lower concentrations (≤10 mg/mL), however, ovotransferrin cytotoxic effects were not significant in all cancer cell lines tested. These results indicated that ovotransferrin has potential to be used as an antioxidant or antimicrobial agent in foods or a pharmaceutical agent against cancers.
