        REMOVAL OF METAL IONS BY ULTRAFILTRATION OF A MICELLAR SOLUTION CONTAINING ANIONIC SURFACTANT

        Heavy metals in wastewater were removed by ultrafiltration of a micellar solution containing surfactant such as sodium dodecyl sulfate. Experimental results showed that permeate flux was primarily controlled by the operating parameters such as transmembrane pressure difference, flow rate and feed concentration. The average permeate flux incrcased at a higher transmembrane pressure, feed velocity, and at a lower solution concentration. The transmembrane pressure had a relatively small effect on metal removal whereas the level of surfactant-to-metal ratio (S/M) had a substantial effect. The optimal ratio of S/M for a best removal of metal ions was measured around 5 and 8 in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate, and the affinity resulted in the order of Cr$gt;Co$gt;Ni$gt;Mg.

      • Ionic conductivity of Ga-doped LLZO prepared using Couette-Taylor reactor for all-solid lithium batteries

        <P>A Couette-Taylor reactor and a batch reactor were used to synthesize garnet-related LLZO materials (Li7-3xMxLa3Zr2O12, M = Ga, Al) for all-solid batteries, and the properties of the resulting samples were compared. Ga-doped LLZO synthesized with the Couette-Taylor reactor comprised cubic phase primary nanoparticles; the calculated lattice parameter and crystallite size for the Couette-Taylor and batch reactor samples were a = 12.98043 angstrom and 129.8 nm and a = 12.97568 angstrom and 394.5 nm, respectively. The parameters for the Al-doped LLZO congener synthesized with the Couette-Taylor reactor were a = 13.10758 angstrom, c = 12.67279 angstrom, and 132.5 nm. The cross-section of the Ga-doped LLZO pellet synthesized with the Couette-Taylor reactor showed a denser microstructure than that of the other pellets, with a relative density of 98%. The total ionic conductivity of the Ga-doped LLZO pellets synthesized with the Couette-Taylor reactor was 1.2-1.75 x 10(-3)S/cm at 25 degrees C. This value contrasts sharply with that of the sample from the batch reactor (3.9 x 10(-4) S/cm). This is may be related to the large size of Ga doped into the LLZO crystallite structure and the primary nanoparticles, which promoted sintering of the pellet.         The development of information technology has been expected to change the living style and upgrade the living environment. These expectations are somewhat realized, but there are certain groups that will be less benefitted by these upgrades compared to other groups. These phenomena are called digital divide, which is the latest issue around the world these days. There are several factors that raise digital divide such as gender, education, job, age, income and region. in Korea, the most critical factor may be considered as region but so far this has only been assumed and there has been no empirical surveys about this. This study is proposed to survey the remote rural areas to find out the actual situations of digital divide compared to the urban areas in Korea. And the results will be used as a basic data to make strategies and policies in order to improve the rural living environments.

        In addition to the removal of dying or dead lutein cells by phagocytosis in many species, macrophages exert both luteotropic effect during maturation period and luteolytic effect during degenerative period via mediating autocrine/paracrine actions of self-producing cytokines in the corpus luteum. In this experiment, immunohistochemical and transmission electron microscopic (TEM) studies were performed to observe the morphologic changes of luteal macrophages during luteolysis. A small number of macrophages and low immunoreactivity were present at the mature stage. The number of macrophages and immunoreactivity gradually increased along the advance of luteolysis. Two subtypes of macrophages could be observed through TEM observation. One type of macrophage located between the large lutein cells contained no lipid droplets in their cytoplasm at mature stage. The other type of macrophage located near the blood vessels contained many lipid droplets in their cytoplasm during luteolysis. Particularly, no phagocytic macrophages were observed, which suggested the macrophages in the porcine corpus luteum did not involve in the phagocytotic elimination of dying lutein cells.

        원발성 간암에서 PIVKA-II 및 Lens Culinaris Agglutinin-A 반응성 Alpha-fetoprotein(AFP-L3)의 임상적 유용성

        Background/Aims: Des-γ-carboxy prothrombin(DCP), a protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-II(PIVKA-II), and Lens culinaris agglutinin-A reactive AFP-L3 have been reported to be useful markers for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the present study, both the PIVKA-II and AFP-L3 were analyzed and compared with a conventional AFP to determine its usefulness, specificity and sensitivity in the diagnosis of HCC. Methods: Sera were collected from 108 patients consisting of 17 patients with chronic hepatitis, 22 patients with liver cirrhosis and 69 patients with HCC. The AFP-L3 was determined by an lectin affinity electrophoresis coupled with an antibody-affinity blotting. Level of DCP was measured by an enzyme immunoassay with an anti-DCP monoclonal antibody. Results: The sensitivity and specificity of PIVKA-II and AFP L3 were 49.3% and 89.5%, and 32.5% and 85.7%, respectively. No significant correlation was found between the PIVKA-II or AFP L3 and serum AFP. No correlation was found etween the PIVKA-II or AFP L3 and the characteristics of HCC.         폐경기 여성에서 칼슘 제품간의 생체이용률 비교

        Despite the potential utility of calcium supplements in menopausal women, there are few data concerning the absorbability of different calcium salts. This four phase cross over study was conducted to compare pharmacokinetic indices of calcium absorption after a single oral administration(600㎎ as an elemental calcium). We selected calcium lactate and calcium gluconate, calcium carbonate, ergocalciferol complement(A), calcium carbonate and cholecalciferol complement(B) as calcium salts and vitamin D complexes, and calcium carbonate (C), calcium citrate(D) as mono calcium salts. In 8 healthy postmenopausal women aged 45-61(mean:54.9years), venous blood samples were obtained for the measurement of serum calcium concentration before and at 1, 3, 5 hours after preload, at 3 hours A(0.613±0.557) and C(0.5±0.472) showed higher than D(-0.113±0.398), and at 5 hours A(0.650±0.607) and B(0.588±0.146) were higher than D(0.075±0.296) (p<0.05). Among the four supplements only A(2.17±1.99) had greater change in area under the curve (ΔAUC_(1~5hr)of C with D, and C with B, and A with B. Only C(1.57±1.42) had higher ΔAUC_(1~5hr) than D(-0.25±1.27, p=0.018). Comparing bioavailability of four commercial calcium supplements by ΔAUC_(1~5hr) calcium citrate(D) had relatively lower bioavailability and we couldn't convince that vitamin D complexes had higher bioavailability than mono calcium salts. Considering the similarity in bioavailability of each calcium supplements, it is favorable so select calcium supplements according to the patient compliance, simplicity of taking the medicine or medical cost.

      • Characteristics of Expanded Graphite Filled Conductive Polymer Composites for PEM Fuel Cell Bipolar Plates

        This study aims to optimize the mechanical and electrical properties of electrically conductive polymer composites (CPCs) for use as a material of bipolar plates for PEM fuel cells. The thin CPCs consisting of conductive fillers and polymer resin were fabricated by a preform molding technique. Expanded graphite (EG), flake-type graphite (FG) and carbon fiber (CF) were used as conductive fillers. This study tested two types of CPCs, EG/FG filled CPCs and EG/CF filled CPCs, to optimize the material properties. First, the characteristics of EG/FG filled CPCs were investigated according to the FG ratio for 7 and $100{\mu}m$ sized FG. CPCs using $100{\mu}m$ FG showed optimal material properties at 60 wt% FG ratio, which were an electrical conductivity of 390 S/cm and flexural strength of 51 MPa. The particle size was an important parameter to change the mechanical and electrical behaviors. The flexural strength was sensitive to the particle size due to the different levels of densification. The electrical conductivity also showed size-dependent behavior because of the different contributions to the conductive network. Meanwhile, the material properties of EG/CF filled CPCs was also optimized according to the CF ratio, and the optimized electrical conductivity and flexural strength were 290 S/cm and 58 MPa, respectively. The electrical conductivity of this case decreased similarly to the EG/FG filled case. On the other hand, the behavior of the flexural strength was more complicated than the EG/FG filled case, and the reason was attributed to the interaction between the strengthening effect of CF and the deterioration of voids.

      • 대학생의 암 예방 수칙에 대한 인식 및 실천행태 연구

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify college student's perception and practice of 'National Cancer Prevention Actions' and the factors that influence the perception and practice. Method: The participants were 310 undergraduates selected by convenience sampling at colleges in Seoul. Instrument was 2014 Survey of Perception and Practice of National Cancer Prevention Actions by National Cancer Center(2014), and has been modified for the purpose of the study. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe test with SPSS 23.0 Windows software. Results: The most recognized action for cancer prevention in college students was "Do not smoke, also avoid smoking smoke"(96.8%) while the most unrecognized was "Get a type B hepatitis vaccination"(58.7%). The most practiced action for cancer prevention in college students was "Sexually as to safe sex"(94.8%) while the most unpracticed was "Exercise five times a week or more, for at least 30 minutes a day"(33.9%). Among general characteristics, participants' age (t=-2.015, p<.05), major (F=3.109, p<.001), and residential type (F=4.959, p<.01) were statistically significant in the recognition of Cancer Prevention Actions and major(F=3.341 p<.05) and residential type(F=3.827, p<.05) were also significant in the practice of Cancer Prevention Actions. Among health characteristics, health concern(F=3.154, p<.05) and education in cancer(t=-3.112, p<.01) showed statistically significant differences in the recognition of Cancer Prevention Actions while health concern(F=7.896 p<.001) and subjective health status(F=9.913, p<.001) showed differences in the practice of Cancer Prevention Actions. Conclusion: These findings showed the gap between the perception and practice of cancer prevention actions. Considering the importance of individual characteristics, it is essential to develop a differentiated cancer prevention education program for college students. Also, nursing intervention program should be developed to raise the alertness of cancer in order to enhance cancer preventive practice.
