        In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

        . The raising and feeding of swine in outhouses(Toilet) arose long ago and become a habit or custom for excrement control. The primary reason for practice is that most Cheju people simply do not like to tauch human feces. As a result of swine living in outhouses (Toilet) there is a great danger to humans of infection with cysticercus cellulosae from eating improperly cooked pork. Farmers do not recognize the offet of cysticercus cellulosae on human beings and must receive adequate education. We can slowly eliminate this problom by teaching and re emphasizing the unsanitary conditions and economic loss arising from this practice of W, C swine raising. The local governments and educated citizens as well as know ledgeable farmers must give continuous instruction and guidance in sanitary practices if we are to alter and eliminate swine feeding in the toilet 1. In Cheju-do the family does not include married children, thus the families are necessarily smaller than the mainland and the number of pigs at any house depends upon number of peoples in the family thus it is usually impossible to feed more than one pig since human feces are utilized as pig feed. 2. Since farmers have only a small amount of feed and feces and aware that the growth rate during a pig's first year is greater than its growth rate during the second year thus indicating a highly efficient utilization of feed during the first year, the farmers usually sell the pig within the first year. 3. Since there is a shortage of sanitary pig feed in Cheju-do greater use should be made of the waste products left over from sweet potato starch production. 4. The primary reason for raising the pig in the toilet is that about 90% of the people do not like to touch human feces out of habit. 5. The first objective in improving the feeding of Cheju swine is the instruction of farmers in the sanitation and health problems and econmic loss involved in raising pigs in the toilet because about 50% of the farmers are ignorant of even the existence of cysticercus cellulosae and its due effect on human beings.

      • 개심술시 혈액 응고 인자의 변화

        경북의대 흉부외과학 교실에서 1982년도에 개심술을 시행한 환자 중 무작위로 10예를 선택하여 혈액응고인자를 검사한 바 다음과 같은 성적을 얻었다. 혈액응고인자 즉 Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅴ, 및 Ⅷ의 활성치는 모두 관류초기 및 관류말기에 심한 감소를 보였고 (p<0.001) 관류후 2-4시간에 대조치인 전신마취 중의 검사치로 회복하는 추세를 보였다. 술후 출혈량은 517±329ml/M^2/day 였으며 결론적으로 관류중 혈액응고인자의 심한 감소현상이 술후 비교적 빠른시간내에 관류전치로 회복하고 있는 것으로 보아 술후 과도한 출혈의 중요한 원인이 되지는 않는 것으로 본다. This study was performed to analyze the magnitude and duration of changes in certain clotting factors during and following cardiopulmonary bypass and to correlate these changes with excessive bleeding, if it occurred. Ten cases of patients were randomly selected for this study. They were examined factor assays such as Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅴ, and Ⅷ, using a Coag-stat BC-2210 Blood Coagulation Analyzer. Blood samples were obtained during general anesthesia, at the beginning of the bypass, at the end of bypass and 2-4 hours after bypass. Factor activities such as Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅴ, and Ⅷ decreased markedly during bypass(p<0.001) and returned promptly to control levels which are values during general anesthesia at 2-4 hours after bypass. Postoperative bleeding presented as 517±329ml/M^2/day.

      • 甘草의 有效性分 含量에 關한 硏究

        시중에 유통되고 있는 4종류의 감초(특감초,원감초,일호감초,이호감초)에 대하여 유효약리성분 glycyrrhizin, 18α-glycyrrhetinic acid 및 glycyrrhizic ammonium salt의 함량을 대한약전의 규격기준에 준하여 검토한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 1. 감초의 수분함량은 7.00-10.16%범위 였다. 2. 감초의 회분 및 산불용성 회분 함량은 3.03-4.09%, 0.02-0.11 % 범위 였다. 3. 감초 품질의 지표성분인 glycyrrhizin,18α-glycyrrhetinic acid 및 glycyrrhizic ammonium sait 을 TLC로 각각 Rt값 0.399,0.932,0.394 위치에서 암자색의 반점을 확인할 수 있었는데 특 감초,원 감초,1호 감초,2호 감초 모두 같은 위치에서 뚜렷한 암자색 반점을 확인할 수 있었고,확인되지 않은 3종 화합 물의 Rt 값은 0.28,0.66,0.78 였다. 4. 감초품질의 지표성분인 glycyrrhizin,18 α-glycyrrhetinic acid 및 glycyrrhizic ammonium salt을 HPLC로 정량한 결과 glycyrrhizin은 4종류 감초에서 분석되어 2.93-4.48g% 범위였고, 18 α-glycyrrhetinic acid는 특감초 및 일호감초에서만 13.64,3.52 g% 함유되었다. 그러나 glycyrrhizic ammonium salt 분석되지 않았다. 5. 문헌상에 기록된 감초의 종류는 16종이었고 이들에서 분리된 화학물질은 약 170여 가지였다. This study was carried out to investigate the content of glycyrrhizin, 18 α-glycyrrhetinic acid, glycyrrhizic ammonium salt, moisture, ash, residue ash in four kinds(teuk-gamcho, won-gamcho, IIho-gamcho, Eho-gamcho) in Glycyrrhizae Radix(Glycyrrhiza sp.) used in Korea. The result were as follows ; The moisture content in four kinds of gamcho was ranged from 7.00-10.16%. The ash and ash of acid residue in all gamcho types ranged from 3.03-4.09% and from 0.02-0.11 %, respectivly. The glycyrrhizin, 18 α-glycyrrhetinic acid, glycyrrhizic ammonium salt in Teuk-gamcho, Won-gamcho, IIhogamcho, Eho-gamcho verified from line of dark purplue color by TLC and Rf value of glycyrrhizin, 18 α-glycyrrhetinic acid, glycyrrhizic ammonium salt were 0.399, 0.932, O. 394, respectivly, and the Rf value unknown compoud were 0.28, 0.66, 0.78. The glycyrrhizin, 18 α-glycyrrhetinic acid, glycyrrhizic ammonium salt content of all gamcho by HPLC were ranged from 2.93-4.48g%, 3.52-13.64g%, and trace, respectively. The 16 kinds of Glycyrrhiza (Licorice) were dassified, and that the identification about 170 chemicals were phamacology action substrate by reported references.

        대량의 각혈로 사망한 장티푸스 1예

        We experienced a 25 year-old male patient with typhoid fever complicated with massive hemoptysis. Pulmonary complication in typhoid fever is very rare and to our knowledge, there has been no report of hemoptysis as a main cause of death with this disease. We herein report a rare case of typhoid fever.

      • Nitric Oxide에 의한 난소 과립세포의 Apoptosis 조절에 대한 연구

        여포의 퇴화가 진행되는 기작에서 apoptotic cell death 와 nitric oxide (NO)의 연관성에 관하여 실험하였다. 난소의 apoptosis는 GnRH에 의해 유도되고 스테로이드에 의해 억제된다. 여포에서 과립 세포의 apoptosis에 대한 호르몬의 영향과 NO 생산효과를 조사하기 위하여 중간크기 (직경 5-6 ㎜)의 여포에서 non-apoptotic 과립세포를 분리하여 스테로이드, GnRH agonist, GNRH agonist+SNP, 그리고 NO 공여체인 SNP를 처리하여 24시간동안 배양하였다. 배양된 과립세포에서 게놈 DNA를 추출하여 apoptotic DNA절편화 경향을 알아보았고, 배양액과 griess reagent를 반응시켜 nitrite 농도를 측정하였다. 스테로이드 호르몬을 처리하였을 때, 대조군에 비해 NO 생성이 다소 증가하였으며 apoptotic DNA 절편화도 억제되었다. GnRH agonist 처리군에서는 apoptotic DNA 절편화가 가속화 양상을 나타내었으며 NO 생성은 다소 감소하였다. 그러나 GnRH agonist+SNP 그리고 SNP 처리군에서는 apoptotic DNA 퇴화가 억제되었으며 NO 농도는 대조군에 비해 현저히 높았다. 위의 실험 결과로 보아 과립세포 분화와 여포성숙과 퇴화과정에서 호르몬과 NO가 밀접한 관련이 있는 것으로 사료된다. To study the regulation of porcine follicular cell apoptosis by steroids, GnRH agonist and nitric oxide, we have analyzed DNA fragmentation, the hallmark of apoptosis, and nitrite production in porcine granulosa cells. In, ovarian apoptosis is induced by GnRH but is prevented by steroids. Apoptosis is confined to the granulosa cells but it was not clear whether apoptosis of granulosa cell was regulated by NO in vitro. So non-apoptotic granulosa cells isolated, grown at 37℃, for 24 hrs, and treated with / without SNP, GnRH agonist, and sterioid, respectively. In cultured granulosa cells were used to extract genomic DNA and culture media was assayed for nitrite concentration. Nitrite production of culture media was increased and apoptotic DNA fragmentation was supressed in SNP treated groups, GnRH agonist+SNP, and estrogen, progesterone. Nitrite concentration in culture media was decreased and apoptotic DNA was induced treated with GnRH agonist. These data suggest that NO production and apoptosis may be involved of granulosa cell differentiation and ovarian follicular atresia by SNP, estrogen and progesterone. Moreover, NO can overcome the granulosa cell apoptosis induced by GnRH agonist.

        한국 재래산양에서 Bovine Viral Diarrhea, Bovine Herpesvirus-1, Parainfluenza Type-3 바이러스에 대한 혈청학적 연구

        The 948 goat sera were serologically tested for ten pathogens including bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), bovine herpes virus type-1 (BHV-1) and parainfluenza virus type-3 (PI-3). By viral neutralizaion test, three pathogens including BVD virus, BHV-1, PI-3 were applied for screening each neutralizing antibody and its titration. Among 948 sera, there were 215 seropositives (22.7%) against BVD virus, 25 (2.6%) against BHV-1 virus, and 161 (17.0%) against PI-3 virus, respectively. In the seropositive cases to BVD virus, provincial prevalence of them were recorded as Gyeongnam(30.8%) for the highest one, while as Jeonbuk (15.8%) and Gyeongbuk(l6.7%) relatively for the lower ones. Among them, higher than 1:8 in antibody titration was classified as 74 cases (34.4%) which were suspected the cycle of its infection in their herds. Among the seropositives to BHV-1, it was relatively lower prevalence rate ranging from 1.7% to 6.7% that those of BVD virus and PI-3, but more importantly they were prevailing across the country. Most of the seropositive cases (42.9%) to PI-3 were classified as 1:4-1:16 in titration, but also distributed all around the country. The prevalence in goats varied according to areas (15.8 to 30.8%). Related to the provincial prevalence of three viral agents in Korean goats, it seemed that three viral pathogens would be directly or indirectly involving in various disorders as primary or secondary causative agents resulting in decreased productivity.

      • 생물학적 질산화의 영향 인자에 따른 알칼리도 변화

        Although many factors such as ammonia nitrogen concentration, pH, temperature and dissolved oxygen were revealed to influence on the biological nitrification, so far the influence is not wellknown in detail. This study was focused to find how each factors effect on the biological nitrification and alkalinity consumption in wastewater treatment under high ammonia nitrogen concentration. Batch reactors in aerobic conditions were used to test the treatment efficiency of mixed liquor, nightsoil and piggery wastewater. The results of this experiment, the alkalinity consumption rates were showed the range of 1.9∼7.1 mg alk./mg NH_(4)-N.

      • 고농도 암모니아성 폐수의 질산화과정에서 아질산염 축적의 영향인자

        This study was focused to find how each factors effect on the biological nitrification in wastewater treatment under high ammonia nitrogen concentration. Batch reactors in aerobic conditions were used to test the treatment efficiency of mixed liquor, nightsoil and piggery wastewater. The results are summeried as follows ; Initial ammonia nitrogen concentration and pH were the direct influencing factors of nitrite build-up. More than 250mg NH_(4)^(+)-N/L in initial concentration built up nitrite and then the inhibition rate to Nitrobacter was above 70 percentage. And maximum nitritation rate was showed at pH 8.3 and nitrification could be completely achieved by pH control. Temperature and dissolved oxygen were the indirect influencing factors of nitrite build-up. These were a great effect on the activity of nitrifying microbes and ammonia nitrogen removal. Maximum nitritation late was showed at 30℃. The effect of DO concentration was negligible at more than 3 mg/L.
