        Therapeutic Effects of Recombinant Human Epidermal Growth Factor (rhEGF) in a Murine Model of Concurrent Chemo- and Radiotherapy-Induced Oral Mucositis

        <P>Concurrent chemotherapy with radiotherapy (CCRT) has been applied for the treatment of advanced stage of head and neck cancer patients. However CCRT is associated with several complications including mucositis, dermatitis, stomatitis, etc. This study was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effect of systemically administrated recombinant human epidermal growth factor (rhEGF) in CCRT-induced oral mucositis in a mouse model. Oral mucositis was induced in male BALB/c mice through combination treatment with cisplatin (11 mg/kg, i.p.) and irradiation (17 Gy) of the head and neck area. rhEGF (1.0 mg/kg/day for consecutive 3 days) was administered systemically, and the therapeutic effect was determined by histological evaluation of the oral mucosa. To elucidate optimal dose of rhEGF on CCRT-induced mucositis, various concentrations (0.04–3 mg/kg) of rhEGF were injected for 3 days. Systemic rhEGF administration accelerated the recovery of body weight. Histologically, rhEGF-treated mice showed significantly increased epithelial cell layer thickness, basal cell number, and expression of Ki-67 compared to control mice. Most effective dose was 1 mg/kg among other doses tested. Systemic administration of 1 mg/kg of rhEGF reduces the severity of oral mucositis induced by CCRT in a mouse model, suggesting that rhEGF can be used for treating CCRT-induced mucositis during the cancer treatment.</P>

        Recently progress in metal cutting and machine tool has raised the productivity of cutting operation remakable. Such high productivity, however, has brought troublesome problems on chips, specially, such as continuous chips. Thus manufacturing system can not be automated without controlling the chip forms. Monitoring and diagnosis of various undesirable state in the cutting process are major functions required for the full-automation of manufacturing system. As the computerized monitoring and classifying of the generation of undesirable chips and chip forms which are major obstacle to automation, the algorithm which decide cutting state in this paper.

      • Phosphate 유리들의 구조-물성-조성 상관에 대한 연구

        P₂O -Na₂O-MgO, P₂O-Na₂O 및 P₂O-MgO glass 계에서 조성에 따른 구조변화를 조사하기 위해 glass의 밀도와 물에 대한 안정성 그리고 Raman 과 적외선 흡수 스펙트럼이 측정되었다. 그 결과, P₂O가 60mol% 부근에서 밀도와 물에 대한 안정성의 급격한 증가를 나타내었다. 이러한 변화는 Mg²+ 이온을 중심으로 DBO(double-bonded oxygen)이 배위하면서 glass 구조의 강한 수축을 유발시켜 나타난 구조변화에 기인하는 것으로, Mg²+ 이온을 배위하고 있는 DBO은 이중결합의 성격을 잃어버리고, 다른 하나의 NBO(non-bridging oxygen)과 함께 공명을 일으킨다고 생각된다. Raman, infrared spectroscopy, dnesity, and water resistance in P₂O-Na₂O-MgO, P₂O-Na₂O and P₂O-MgO glass systems were measured to investigate the structural change depending on their composition. The density and water resistance showed an abrupt increase in the range of about 60mol% P₂O. These results can be explained by the structural changes owing to the strong shrinkage of glass network which is caused by the coordination of DBO(double-bonded oxygen) around Mg²+ cations i.e. it seems that the DBOs coordinating Mg²+ cations, losing their characteristics of double bonding, will resonate with other NBOs(non-bridging oxygen).

      • 핵폐기용 실험글라스고화체의 구조 및 특성에 관한 연구

        핵연료의 재처리공정중에서 방출되는 high-level방사성폐액을 안정한 글라스형태로 고화하여 처리하는 글라스고화법이 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 고화글라스구성성분의 하나인 Pb가 글라스의 용해도, 글라스중에서의 존재형태, 결정화에 미치는 영향을 UV, XRD, TG등을 이용하여 검토하였다. Pd의 용해도는 Tg∼1200℃에서 수 십-수 백ppm정도이며, 용해도를 전후하여 각각 2가이온 및 콜로이드상태로 존재한다는 것을 확인하였다. 그리고 Pb는 결정화에있어서 결정화를 촉진하였으나, Mn, Cr, V, Sb등의 다원자가원소의 첨가에 의하여 결정화를 억제할 수 있었다. Glass is an attractive form for the permanent and secure disposal treatment of high-level radioactive liquid wastes from high-level nuclear waste re-management process. In present work, we investigated the effect of glass solubility, existing form from of Pd in glass, and crystallization of glass on the Pd behaviour in the waste glass using UV, XRD, and TG. The solubility of Pd was from several 10s to several 100s ppm in Tg∼1200℃, and we found Pd exists as bivalent ionic or colloidal form at around the value of Pd-solubility in glass matrix. In crystallization, Pd in glass was helpful for promoting the crystallization, but Mn, Cr, V, and Sb additives retarded and controlled the crystallization.

        This is study intended to develop the high performance concrete by using Fly Ash, Silica Fume and Expansive Additives in order to prevent the crack from caused by dry-shrinkage and get the economical efficiency. Form the test results, the optimum addition rate based on the fluidity, segregation resistibility, strength and length-change test can be achieved at 5% of Expansive Additives in the combination of 15:5 (Fly Ash : Silica Fume).

      • 반도체 미립자를 함유한 Silica Glass의 제조 및 특성

        본 연구에서는 Sol-Gel법을 이용하여 우수한 양자 사이즈 효과를 가진 ZnS를 함유한 실리카 유리를 제조하였다. 출발 물질로서 Si(OC₂H)₄와 Zn(CH₃COO)₂·2H₂O를 사용하여 무색 투명한 겔을 제조하였다. 얻어진 겔을 600℃에서 열처리를 하여 상온에서 H₂S gas와 반응시켜 유리 내에 ZnS 미세결정을 형성시켰다. ZnS 미립자의 밴드갭 에너지 3.71∼4.27eV였는데 이 값은 벌크상 ZnS의 밴드갭보다 약 0.1∼0.5eV 더 높은 수치를 나타내었다. ZnS 미세결정의 크기는 EMA(Effective Mass Approximation)에 의해 구하였는데, 이는 ZnO의 투여량과 H₂S gas와의 반응시간에 따라 변화하였다. ZnS 미세결정의 크기가 증가함에 따라, 광흡수단은 낮은 에너지영역으로 이동하였는데, 이 현상은 양자 사이즈 효과를 보여주고 있다. In this study, Sol-Gel process has been applied to make ZnS-doped silica glass having a significant quantum size effect. Si(OC₂H)₄ and Zn(CH₃COO)₂·2H?O were used to prepare transparent and colorless gels. These gels were heated at 600℃, then reacted with H₂S gas to form fine ZnS microcrystals in glasses. The opical band gap of the ZnS microcrystals was 3.71∼4.27eV, which was 0.1∼0.5eV higher than that of bulk ZnS crystal. The size of ZnS microcrystals calculated by EMA(Effective Mass Approximation) in glasses changed with ZnO concentration and H₂S gas reaction time. As the size of the ZnS microcrystal increased, the absorption edge of spectra shifted to the low-energy side, thus providing quantum size effect.

        EtOAc soluble part of MeOH extract of Anemarrbena asphodeloides rhizome was evaluated for the cytotoxicity against the five kinds of human tumor cell lines (A-549, SK-OV-3, SK-MEL-2, XF498 and HCT15) in vitro. Bioassay-guided fractionation of EtOAc soluble part led to the isolation of active compound which was identified as timosaponin A-Ⅲ1 showed potent cytotoxic activity, but its genin, sarsasapogenin, did not show cell growth inhibition.

        The structure which was introduced in this case study of the safe degree was the structure of Chungju Mun Wha Hall located in downtown in Chungju City, Chungbuk. In this case that our country had been developed the rapidly economic development since the 1970's, the several problems of the maintain and management of the existing structure had been started finding on the starting point of the breakdown of Sampung Department and Seongsu Bridge in building a large construction business like the apartment construction of 2 million houses in new town; Illsan, Bundang, Pyongchon, Sanbon, express electric railway and new airport construction, etc, for solving the housing problem including Seoul Olympic Games. In this situation, the evaluation of a concrete crack and its durability, the forecasting of concrete life, the caution in time of selecting the repair method of construction, and the importance of technology development were emphasized again. As a structure which had been built ten years ago, because there have been some cracks in sub-material parts, this thesis researched a crack and the modified state like the several present, the iron frame and the concrete reinforcing degree, the existance or nonexistance of the deficient of the iron framed trust, etc. On the basis of this result, after this thesis investigated the state degree of the structure, it presented the proper repair and the reinforcement of this structure.

        연구개 및 구개수에 발생한 편평세포암종

        Carcinoma of the mouth accounts for approximately 5% of all carcinomas occurring in man. Carcinoma of the oral cavity develops as a result of invasion of malignant epithelial cells through the normally intact basal cell layer into subcutaneous and submucosal tissuse. The sofe palate and uvula may be involved in oral cancer but are not common sites. Early lesions of soft palate carcinoma appear as red, white, or mixed changes in the mucosa. The earliest symptom is mild sore throat. Advanced lesions interfer with swallowing and may cause a voice change. Although surgical method of soft palate carcinoma is successful, prognosis is relatively poor to swallowing and speech problem. Occasionally marginal recurrence may be developed. This article reports a case of squamous cell carcinoma occurred unusually in the soft palate and uvula. The case was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, local radicalexcision and postoperative irradiation. Patient was followed up for 2 years. There was no tumor recurrence. The overall result including function was satisfactory.
