김치 추출물에 의한 Aflatoxin B_1의 돌연변이 억제 효과

The inhibitory effects of Kimchi extracts on the mutagenicity induced by aflatoxin B₁(AFB₁) in Salmonella and Drosophila assay systems were studied. The kimchi extracts had inhibitory activity for His^+ to His^+ reverse-mutations induced by AFB₁acting on S. typhimurium TA98. A similar inhibitory effect was detected in somatic cell mutation assaying system of D. melanogaster. In Drosophila wing hair spot test, mutant clone frequency induced by AFB₁was consideranly inhibited by the kimchi extracts. These facts suggest that kimchi rxtracts can inhibit gene mutation, deletion, mititic chromosomal recombination and suppress the formation of cancer and mutation by DNA damage.

저자들은 Creutzfeldt-Jacob병 1례를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. 환자는 약 4개월에 걸친 비교적 짧은 기간 동안 중증의 인지 기능 장애와 시각 장애, 보행장애와 하지의 약화, 불수의적 운동 등과 함께 섬망상태에까지 이르게 되어 본원 정신과에 입원하게 되었다. 정신상태 검사상, 반응시간의 지체, 언어장애와 보속증, 시간에 대한 지남력 장애, 주의 집중력 장애, 단기 및 장기 기억 장애, 추상적 사고능력 장애 등의 소견을 보였고, 이러한 증상들은 입원후 치료에도 불구하고 빠르게 악화되었다. 뇌파검사상 지속적인 다발초점성 서파가 모든 전극에서, 특히 우측 전두부에서 현저하게 나타나는 소견을 보였고, 병리조직학적 검사상 대뇌 피질에 신경손실을 동반한 해면화와 신경교 증식증을 나타냈다. 이상의 소견들은 모두 CJD의 진단에 합당하였다. We report a case of Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease and review the relevant literatures. This 56-year-old male patient was admitted to our hospital with a history of rapidly progressing cognitive dysfunction, visual disturbance, gait disturbance, weakness, involuntary movement of lower extremities, and the symptoms of delirium. On mental status examination, he showed psychomotor retardation, speech disturbance, perseveration, disorientation, impairment of short-term and long-term memory, and inability of abstract thinking. He had a rapid downhill course, along with shakiness of trunk, rigidity of the limbs, myoclonus, confusion, and finally, inability to speak or move on the bedside. On electroencephalogram(EEG), continuous multifocal show delta activities were found in all leads, especially in the right frontal areas. Brain biopsy showed, spongiosis with neuronal loss and gliosis noted at the cerebral cortex. These findings were compatible with Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease.

In 2017, the Korean Diabetes Association (KDA) published a position statement on the use of antihyperglycemic agents for patients with type <sub>2</sub> diabetes mellitus (T<sub>2</sub>DM). The KDA regularly updates its Clinical Practice Guidelines, but since the last update in 2015, many results from clinical trials have been introduced, and domestic data from studies performed in Korean patients with T<sub>2</sub>DM have been published. Recently, evidence from large clinical studies assessing cardiovascular outcomes following the use of sodium-glucose cotransporter <sub>2</sub> inhibitors and glucagon-like peptide <sub>1</sub> receptor agonists in patients with T<sub>2</sub>DM were incorporated into the recommendations. Additionally, new data from clinical trials using dipeptidyl peptidase <sub>4</sub> inhibitors and thiazolidinediones in Korean patients with T<sub>2</sub>DM were added. Following a systematic review and assessment of recent evidence, the KDA updated and modified its clinical practice recommendations regarding the use of antihyperglycemic agents and revised the treatment algorithm for Korean adult patients with T<sub>2</sub>DM.

Random network single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT)-based thin film transistors show excellent properties in sensors, electronic circuits, and flexible devices. However, they exhibit a significant amount of hysteresis behavior,which should be solved prior to use in industrial applications. This paper provides optimum conditions for the growth of random network SWNTs and reveals that the observed hysteresis behavior originates from the charge exchange between the SWNTs and the dielectric layer rather than from changes in the intrinsic properties of the SWNTs. This was proven by studying the conditions of stepwise gate sweep experiments and time measurements. This paper also shows that top gate SWNT thin film transistors (TFTs) with an SU-8 dielectric layer could provide a practical solution to the hysteresis problem for SWNT TFTs in electronic circuit applications.

Purpose: Intraductal papillary mucinous tumor (IPMT) of the pancreas pathologically shows papillary proliferation and its tumor cells display a spectrum of changes ranging from adenoma to infiltrating carcinoma. Because of this variability, there have been many difficulties for making an accurate diagnosis and administering proper treatment. The aim of this study was to determine the treatment strategy and differential diagnosis of benign and malignant IPMT. Methods: Between January 2000 and June 2007, 24 patients with IPMT of the pancreas underwent surgery. The relationships among the clinopathologic features and tumor locations and subtypes were retrospectively investigated. In addition, the type of surgical procedures and findings, the microscopic finding, the immunohistochemical staining and the clinopathological features were analyzed. Results: There were 17 men and 7 women with a mean age of 65 (range: 45∼81). Pathologically, 11 cases were benign, 9 were borderline and 4 were malignant. The tumor was located in the head of the pancreas in 17 patients. 16 cases received Whipple’s procedure and pylorus preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy, and the others were received different kinds of operations. Regarding the subtypes of IPMT, 2 cases were the main duct type, 19 were the branched type and 3 were the combined type. There were no statistically significant differences in the clinical manifestations, radiologic findings and immnohistochemical staining between the patients with benign and malignant IPMT. Except two patients who were not followed up, all the patients had no recurrence and they survived. Conclusion: It is very difficult to exactly differentiate malignant IPMT from benign IPMT with using the current preoperative evaluations and immunohistochemical staining of the resected specimens. The patients who were operated on and followed in our hospital had no recurrence and they all survived. Therefore, if IPMT is suspected, we think the patients should be operated on and we should continue studying other specific antibodies for immunohistochemical staining.
