Anatomical and Clinical Correlates of Depression and Anxiety After Stroke
SeJoo Kim,YooSun Moon,NakKyung Choi,YoungShin Kim,BongKi Son,SangKyu Lee,DoHoon Kim 대한신경정신의학회 2004 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.1 No.1
Objectives-The impact of white matter lesions on depressive or anxiety symptoms after stroke has not been fully investigated. This study was undertaken to investigate the clinical and pathoanatomic correlates of depression and anxiety in acute stroke patients, including subcortical lesions (deep white matter, periventricular white matter and subcortical gray matter) Materials and Methods-Sixty-nine patients with acute stoke were recruited. The numbers and volumes of infarcts affecting the different anatomic sites were evaluated in the brain lesions located in regions such as the cortex, brain stem and cerebellum. White matter lesions and subcortical gray matter lesions were rated by Fazekas classification on MRI images. Depressive and anxiety symptoms were rated by Beck depression inventory (BDI) and Beck anxiety inventory (BAI), respectively. Various anatomical and clinical variables were analyzed between depression or anxiety group and the control group (non-depressive or non-anxiety group), in order to evaluate the correlates of depression. Results-There were significant correlations between depression and periventricular hyperintensity and deep white matter hyperintensity in the acute stroke patients. There were no significant pathoanatomic correlations between anxiety and brain lesions. Conclusions-Our findings suggest that periventricular and deep white matter lesions may increase the risk of depression after stroke. However, to draw more definite conclusions, our findings need to be replicated in larger samples.
“더 이상 연금생활자로 살지 말지니”: 브루스 바튼의 생산자 윤리와 기독교 능력주의
김세주 ( Sejoo Kim ) 서울대학교 미국학연구소 2021 미국학 Vol.44 No.2
This paper examines the service ideal preached by Bruce Barton, a bestselling American author in the 1920s. Based on archival sources and other historical materials, this paper presents Barton’s endorsement of service ideal less as an adaptation to the looming consumerist society than an endeavor to revive the old producer ethos that was more coercive than therapeutic. Revisiting Barton’s messages to Americans, this paper traces the intellectual root of Barton’s service ideal to the Social Gospel and illustrates the ways his producer ethos evolved into a commonplace ideology of Christian meritocracy that endorsed individualism and small government.
Suppressing background noise in STED optical nanoscopy
Jeong Sejoo,Kim Jaeyong,Lee Jong-Chan 한국물리학회 2021 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.78 No.5
Super-resolution microscopy or optical nanoscopy has enabled all-optical observation of nanoscopic objects with resolution beyond Abbe’s diffraction limit. STimulated Emission Depletion (STED) nanoscopy achieves diffraction-unlimited resolution by employing a de-excitation laser with a hollow core in addition to the conventional excitation laser in confocal microscopy. One of the strong unexpected adverse effects in resolution improvement in STED nanoscopy is a structured, systematic background noise, which deteriorates the desired super-resolved image. Suppressing background noise, therefore, has been an important challenge in STED nanoscopy. Here, we introduce the characteristics of the background noise in STED nanoscopy and review several recent approaches that tackle this problem. The methods will be examined in comparison to one another and the advantages and disadvantages of each method will be highlighted.
Association between Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Dopamine Transporter Gene Polymorphism
SangWoo Yoo,SeJoo Kim,ChanHyung Kim 대한신경정신의학회 2006 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.3 No.1
Objective: The definite causes of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are still unknown. Recently, evidence has been growing that OCD has a specific neurochemical and neuroanatomical basis. The most prevailing biological mechanism of OCD is the serotonin hypothesis. However, in addition to this main hypothesis suggesting serotonin abnormalities, many researchers have proposed that dopamine might also participate in the pathophysiology of OCD. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the association between dopamine transporter (DAT1) polymorphisms and OCD. Methods: 115 OCD patients and 160 normalcontrols participated in this study. Genomic DNA was extracted from their blood, and a comparison of the genotypes and allele frequencies of the DAT1 polymorphism between the OCD group and control group was made. The genotypes of DAT1 are classified into 10/10-repeats and non-10/10 repeats. Results: In this case-control study, there were no statistical differences in the observed genotype distributions or allele frequencies of the DAT1 polymorphism between these two groups. Moreover, there were no significant differences in the total Y-BOCS, CGI-OC, GAF or total HDRS scores between the patients with 10/10-repeat and non-10/10 repeat genotypes. Conclusion: In conclusion, DAT1 polymorphisms do not appear to be associated with the development of OCD, the severity of OC or depressive symptoms, or the general functioning
Design and Methods of the Mood Disorder Cohort Research Consortium (MDCRC) Study
ChulHyun Cho,YongMin Ahn,SeJoo Kim,TaeHyun Ha,HongJin Jeon,Boseok Cha,Eunsoo Moon,DongYeon Park,JiHyun Baek,HeeJu Kang,Vin Ryu,Hyonggin An,HeonJeong Lee 대한신경정신의학회 2017 PSYCHIATRY INVESTIGATION Vol.14 No.1
The Mood Disorder Cohort Research Consortium (MDCRC) study is designed as a naturalistic observational prospective cohort study for early-onset mood disorders (major depressive disorders, bipolar disorders type 1 and 2) in South Korea. The study subjects consist of two populations: 1) patients with mood disorders under 25 years old and 2) patients with mood disorders within 2 years of treatment under 35 years old. After successful screening, the subjects are evaluated using baseline assessments and serial follow-up assessments at 3-month intervals. Between the follow-up assessments, subjects are dictated to check their own daily mood status before bedtime using the eMood chart application or a paper mood diary. At the regular visits every 3 months, inter-visit assessments are evaluated based on daily mood charts and interviews with patients. In addition to the daily mood chart, sleep quality, inter-visit major and minor mood episodes, stressful life events, and medical usage pattern with medical expenses are also assessed. Genomic DNA from blood is obtained for genomic analyses. From the MDCRC study, the clinical course, prognosis, and related factors of early-onset mood disorders can be clarified. The MDCRC is also able to facilitate translational research for mood disorders and provide a resource for the convergence study of mood disorders.

The purposes of this paper is to study the characteristics of compared to the speakers voice without depression and speakers with depression, and to propose a objective method for the measurement of the therapeutic effects as well as for diagnostics of depression based on the characteristics. The voice samples obtained from 11 female speakers with depression, aged from 20 to 40, diagnosed as having major depressive disorder by an psychiatrist were compared with those from 12 normal controls with matched sex, age, height, weight, education, smoking, and drinking. The voice samples are taken by a portable digital recorder(TASCAM DR-07, Japan) and analysed using the MDVP(Multi-Dimentional Voice Program) software module from CSL(Computerized Speech Lab, kay elemetrics, co, model 4100). The result of the investigation are as following. First, the average speaking fundamental frequency and loudness range of the speakers with depression group was statistically significantly lower than that of the control group. The pitch range of the control group was rather higher than that of the speakers with depression group, but without statistical significance. Overall speech rates have no statistical difference between two groups. Second, the average speaking fundamental frequency and loudness range have statistically significant negative correlation with Beck Depression Inventory, i.e. more severe depression exhibits lower average speaking fundamental frequency and loudness range. Other vocal parameters such as pitch range and overall speech rate have no statistically meaningful correlations with Beck Depression Inventory.
