        Discordance in Spirometric Interpretations Based on Korean and Non-Korean Reference Equations

        Objectives: Korean regression models for spirometric reference values are different from those of other ethnic groups. The purpose of this study was to evaluate discordance in spirometric interpretations based on using Korean reference equations versus non-Korean reference equations. Methods: Spirometry was performed on 825 Korean male workers from April 2009 to November 2011. The spirometric patterns and disease severity were evaluated using two Korean equations (Choi’s and Lee’s) and three equations for Caucasians (NHANES III, Morris’s, and Knudson’s), and the results of Choi’s equation were compared with the non-Korean equations. The spirometric patterns were defined as normal, restrictive, and mild and moderate obstructive. Results: The mean differences in the FEV1% and FVC% between the two Korean equations were 2.0 ± 1.3% and 3.5 ± 2.2%, respectively. Morris’s equation had the greatest difference in the FEV1% from Choi’s equation: 32.9 ± 8.5%. Knudson’s equation had the greatest difference in the FVC% from Choi’s equation: 10.5 ± 6.5%. Conclusions: The two Korean equations shared similar characteristics of spirometric interpretation. The spirometric interpretations of Choi’s equation were significantly different from those of Morris’s equation and Knudson’s equation.

        DC 마그네트론 스퍼터법으로 제조한 ZnO:Al 투명 전도막의 특성

        Sputter-deposited Al-doped zinc oxide (ZnO:AI) is an attractive transparent conductive oxide material for application as transparent electrode in various electronic devices. In this work, the ZnO:AI films are prepared by the capacitively cooped DC magnetron sputtering on glass substrates and the influence of the substrate temperature and working gas pressure on the electrical, optical and morphological properties are investigated. We find that the ZnO:AI film with the optimum deposition parameters shows the resistivity of 0.96×10^(-3) Ω㎝ and the transmittance of average 90% in the wavelength range of the visible spectrum.

      • 수도의 生育과 數量構成要素에 관한 硏究 : 徵生物製劑 施用을 中心으로

        관행 N.P.K.와 유기물 자원인 볏짚시용과 유기물 부숙촉진제인 미생물제제 첨가시용에 따른 수도작의 생육상황, 수량구성요소 및 수량조사와 토양 미생물상의 소장관계등에 미치는 영향을 규명코자 야외 포장시험을 수행하여 다음과 같은 몇가지 결론을 얻었다. 1. 생육상황은 성숙기에 간장, 수장의 성적이 plot5와 plot6에서 가장 높게 나타났다. 유효경 비율은 plot2인 볏짚 단용시용구에서 높게 나타났으나 수수와 엽면적율은 볏짚, 미생물제재 단용시용구인 plot2와 plot3에서 가장 높았다. 2. 수량은 일반적으로 수행되는 N.P.K. 볏짚처리구인 plot4에 비하여 단일시 용구들은 28% 정도의 수량감소를 나타냈고, 볏짚 및 미생물제재 복합시용구인 plot5와 plot6에서 7%가 증수되었으나 통계적인 유의성은 인정되지 않았으며, 본 연구결과는 1년 성적이기 때문에 계속 검토가 요청된다. 3. 토양 미생물상의 소장조사는 시험전 공시토양의 미생물수 보다도 시험 기간중의 모든 처리구에서 미생물수의 증가를 보였고 N.P.K. 단용구인 plot2보다 유기물 및 미생물제재 첨가구인 다른 시험구들에서 좀 더 많은 미생물수를 나타냈으며 수확후에는 미생물수가 다소 감소되는 경향을 보였다. This experiment was conducted to find out the growth phase, the yield component, and the yield trial of the paddy rice, and the population of the soil microorganisms in the field test area. For this experiment, the author used the conventional N.P.K., the rice straw for source of organic matter, and the microorganism agents for rotting organic matter. Results abtained are summarized as follows; 1. The growth phase of the trunk length and panicle length was the highest in both the plot 5 and 6 at the ripening period. The percentage of effective tiller was high in the plot 2 and that of the panicle number and leaf area highest in the plot 2 and 3. the dry weight was the highest in the plot 2 and 3. 2. In the plot 1, 2 and 3, the yield was as much as 28% less than that of the plot 1. On the other hand, in the plot 5 and 6, it was as much as 7% more than that of the plot 4. As the signification with L.S.D. of the above experiment was ignorable. It will be necessary to continue further study. 3. The population of soil microorganisms was increased in all plot during the period and that it was sparser in the plot 1 than any other ones, ones decreased in all after harvest.

        도로 노면의 형상과 강우의 임계 지속시간을 고려한 적정 우수 유출량 산정 및 영향분석

        When calculating the storm runoff from road surface, it is recommendable to introduce the critical duration of rainfall by means of the RUNOFF (SWMM) model, or the Rational method with the travel time values of the kinematic wave' or Kerby's equation modified by multiplying the correction factor of 2.3 or 1.1, respectively. But the travel time of 5-10 minutes suggested in the Guide Manual for Sewer Design is too long to use for calculating road surface runoff. The peak runoff rate increases as the road sectional slope increases, whereas it shows the opposite results for an increase in the longitudinal slope. Also, the effects of the width and length of the road on the surface runoff rates increases greatly, as their values increase.

        The Effects of Optic Disc Factors on Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness Measurement in Children

        Purpose: We analyzed the effect of the changes of the optic disc area (ODA) caused by the axial length and the refractive error, and the consequent changes of the distance from the optic disc margin to the circular scan (OD‐CS) of Optical coherence tomography (OCT) on the measurement of the retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(RNFLT) were examined. Methods: One hundred two eyes of 51 children (age range 4 to 15 years) were measured using OCT including the RNFLT. For the ODA and the OD‐CS, the relative area formed by the ODA and the circular scan was obtained. In addition, the correlation of the refractive error and the axial length to the optic disc factors was assessed. Results: As hyperopia progresses to myopia, the axial length became longer, the ODA became smaller (r=‐ 0.442, p=0.000) and the OD‐CS showed a tendency to increase (r=0.471, p=0.000). As the OD‐CS became longer, the measured average RNFLT decreased significantly (r=‐0.248, p=0.012), and the ODA and the ODCS showed a significant correlation to the RNFL thickness that was measured in the nasal and inferior areas, the S2, N2 and N3 areas and the I1 area. Conclusions: As ODA becomes smaller and the OD‐CS becomes longer, the RNFLT measured in the nasal and inferior areas, the S2, N2, N3, I1 area has a tendency to be thinner. Hence, consideration of the disc area is required when interpreting the RNFLT of these eyes. Korean Journal of Ophthalmology 22(2):115-122, 2008

      • 이중컨버터방식 직류전원공급장치의 순환전류제어에 의한 입력 역율개선

        이중컨버터방식의 직류전원공급장치는 4상한 운전이 필요한 직류모터, 직류쵸파, PWM인버터등의 대용량 전력변환장치의 직류전원으로 주로 사용된다. 그러나 순환전류를 제어하는 이중컨터방식의 직류전원공급장치에서는 위상제어와 P와 N 두 컨버터 사이에 흐르는 순환전류에 의하여 교류입력측에 무효전력을 발생시키는 단점이 있다. 최근 이중컨버터방식의 순환전류제어에 관한 논문이 몇편 발표된 일이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이 순환전류제어방식을 이용하여 교류입력측 역율을 1로 보상할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였으며 이방안의 가능성을 컴퓨터 시뮤레이션과 실험을 통하여 확인하다.

        연쇄 구균의 세포벽 단백질이 L929 세포의 DNA합성에 미치는 영향 및 SDS-PAGE 양상에 관한 연구

        AbstractBacteria have been regarded as a one of major etiologic factors in root canal infections. In endodontic treatment the effective removal of pathogenic microorganisms in the root canal is the key to successful outcome. Bacterial cell wall components may play an important role in the development of pulpal and periapical disease.The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of sonic extracts of Streptococcus spp. on cultured L929 cells and to characterize cell wall protein profiles of Streptococcus spp. Streptococcus spp. were isolated from infected root canals and identified with Vitek Systems (Biomeriux, USA). Five streptococci, namely S. sanguis, S. mitis, S uberis, S. mutans (ATCC 10449) and 5. faecalis (ATCC 19433) weere enriched in brain heart infusion broth. Cell pellets were sonicated and cell wall extracts were dialyzed and membrane filtered. Prepared cell wall proteins were applied to cultured L929 cell. The cell reaction were evaluated by monitoring DNA synthesis, cell numbers and the change of cell morphology.The total cell wall protein profiles of microorganisms were characterized by sodium dode- cyl sulfate polyacrylamide-gel electruphoresis(SDS-PAGE).DNA synthesis of L929 cells were reduced by the increasing concentration of sonic extra- cts. DNA synthesis was significantly suppressed in more than 50ug/ml of sonic extract conentration in five streptococci. S. nutans (ATCC 10449) showed stronger suppression on DNA synthesis than remaining four streptococci, which had the similar effect on DNA synthesis. Analysis of DNA synthesis measured by PHJ-thymidine uptake was more sensit- vie method than cell counting. Sonic extracts affected the microscopic findings of L929 cells.The protein profiles indicated that all five strains shared two major proteins with molecular masses of 70.8 and 57.5 kD respectively. 5. uberis and S. mutans shared common minor proteins of which molecular weights were 147.9 and 112.2 kD respectively. However some minor proteins were unique for 5. mitis, S. uberis and S. faecalis.

        Jones Jig를 이용한 하악 제 1 대구치 원심이동의 치험례

        The first permanent molar takes important place in the occlusion. Malposition of the lower first molar is frequently due to mesial migration, which is occurred by early exfoliation of the second deciduous molar or proximal caries of deciduous teeth. Above things happen without any consideration of space maintainer, prompt measures for space regaining have to be started. Especially in the case with early loss of the second deciduous molar, it has been said that there is no suitable appliance for maintaining the space before the eruption of the permanet first molar. In distalizing the upper first molar, headgears have been routinely used, which its resrlt was definitely depended on cooperation of the patients. Nowadays, appliances such as pendulum appliances, K-loop, magnets, which can be used without cooperation of the patients, are introduced. Jones Jig, one of the molar distalizing appliances, was used on the patients who visited department of pediatric dentistry in Seoul National University Dental Hospital complaining of no eruption space for the lower second bicuspid. Either removable splint or lingal arch was used as the anchorage. Jones Jig was favorably used in the lower molar, where vestibule is shallow, and this is a case report on the satisfactory result thereof.

        관상동맥 시술 도중 발생한 좌주간부 관상동맥 박리에 대한 스텐트 삽입 치료의 단장기 임상 결과 : acute and long-term results

        목적 : 심도자 사용 시술과 관련된 좌주간부 관상동맥박리에 대한 적절한 치료는 아직 확실히 정립되지 않은 상태이다. 이에 본 연구는 좌주간부 관상동맥 박리에 대한 스텐트 삽입술의 단장기 임상결과를 후향적으로 분석하였다. 방법 : 좌주간부 관상동맥 박리에 대한 치료로 즉각적인 스텐트 삽입술을 시행하는 것이 안전하고 효과적인 방법임을 가설하였고, 이러한 즉각적인 스텐트 삽입을 시행한 10명의 환자를 대상으로 단장기적 임상경과를 의무기록 고찰과 전화 면담을 통해서 평가하였다. 결과 : 전체 환자 모두 처음부터 좌주간부 관상동맥에 유의한 협착을 가진 환자는 없었으며, 8명의 환자는 심도자의 조작으로 인한 박리가 발생한 경우였고(진단적 혈관 조영술 중에 3명, 유도 도자 조작 중에 5명), 나머지 2명은 다른 병변에 스텐트 삽입시술을 하는 중에 박리가 발생하였다. 이 10명의 환자에서 모두 즉각적인 스텐트 삽입술이 시행되었고, 4명의 환자에서 시술 도중 혈압 저하로 Intra-aortic Ballon Pump (IABP)를 장착하였다. 모든 환자에서 성공적으로 스텐트가 삽입되었고, 병원내 사망은 1명도 없었다. 6개월 추적 관상동맥 조영술은 8명의 환자에서 시행되었다. 혈관 조영상의 재협착(직경 협착 50% 이상)은 8명 모두에게서 관찰되지 않았으며, 퇴원 후 평균 31±25개월의 추적관찰 결과 주요 심장사건은 1건도 발생하지 않았다. 결론 : 비록 대상 환자가 적은 연구였지만 좌주간부 관상동맥 박리에 대한 스텐트 삽입술은 기술적으로 안전하고 빠르게 시행 할 수 있으며, 훌륭한 단장기적인 치료 효과를 보여준다. Background : The optimal treatment of patients with left main coronary artery (LMCA) dissection during catheter-based procedure remains uncertain. We retrospectively analyzed the acute and long-term results of bail-out stenting for LMCA dissection. Methods : In cases with significant LMCA dissection occurring during catheter-based procedure, prompt stent implantation may be safe and associated with favorable clinical outcome. We evaluated the acute and long-term results of bail-out stenting for LMCA dissection occurring during catheter-bases procedure in 1- patients. Results : Initially, there was significant stenosis of LMCA segment in these patients. Catheter-induced dissection occurred in 8 patients (during diagnostic angiography in 3 patients and guiding catheter manipulation in 5 patients). Two patients suffered dissection in the setting of stent deployment in other vessels. Therefore, bail-out stenting LMCA dissection was performed in a total of 10 patients. In 4 patients, hypotension developed and intra-aortic balloon pump was placed during procedure. Stents were successfully deployed in all patients. There was no in-hospital mortality. Six-month angiographic follow-up was performed in 8 patients. Angiographic restenosis(diameter stenosis 50%) was not observed in all patients at follow-up study. During a mean follow-up of 31±25 months after hospital discharge, there was no major adverse cardiac event (death, myocardial infarction, and target lesion revascularization). Conclusion : Bail-out LMCA stenting is technically feasible, and showed good acute and long-term results in a small series of patients.
