Reactive oxygen species(ROS) are implicated in the pathogenesis of a wide variety of human diseases. Numerous studies indicate that ROS may serve as common intracellular molecules that contribute to the process of nuclear factor(NF)κB activation in response to a diverse stimuli. In our laboratory, we have demonstrated tat antioxidants could reverse the decline of immune function caused by exercise-induced ROS. Furthermore, it in necessary to understand a mechanism underlying ROS-dependent disorder in biological system. Recent studies have been shown that several gene expression were regulated by oxidants, antioxidants and other determinants of the intracellular reduction-oxidation(redox) state. In this process, NF-κB have been shown to play a important role. The purpose of the present investigation was to evaluate the effect of exercise-induced oxidative stress and antioxidnt supplementation on NF-κB activation in peripheral mononuclear cells. Forty male SD rats(4 weeks old) were randomly divided into noraml diet group and antioxidants(ATO) supplement group, and then ATO groups were treated with antioxidants(VE: 2001U/kg, VC: 50mg/rat, β-carotene: 300mg/kg, vitamin B6: 250㎍/100g, selenomethionine: 0.1mg/kg) for 16 weeks. After 16 weeks breeding at each condition, each group divided into two groups: Control group(CR) fed generally, Exercise group(CE) fed generally and followed by acute exercise 16 weeks later. Antioxidant Antioxidants and Exercise group(AE) fed with antioxidants and followed by acute exercise. The activation of NF-κB binding activity was increased after exhaustive exercise bout in both group. In addition, pretreatment of ATO group with the antioxidants mixture lead to the inhibition of NF-κB binding activity. This results suggest that NF-κB activation should be further studies in response to a variety of exercise.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of reduction coefficient according to the limit state design of steel structures in the bolted joints of tension members. It was carried out the tensile testing about high strength bolted connections performed in structural steel channels. Considered parameters are the number and row of bolts, the connection length, connection eccentricity of the specimen. The test results showed that failures generally came (a) classic net section, (b) block shear failures. We found that the professional factor, obtained by calculating the test failure load divided by the nominal specification strength, is lower than 1.00. We thought that the reason was the moment produced by eccentric loading depends upon the connection geometry as well as the rotational stiffness of the connection.

This study focuses on the inspect of effective net area design code, according to limited state design criteria of steel structures, recently established in Korea, by an experiment on the joint of angle tension members on the ground. reduction factor. The methods of this study were to compare other study results on effective net area rupture mode and ultimate capacity, and to evaluate the propriety of the criteria design code. The result is that code in force limited state design criteria of steel structures and AISC-LRFD joint of angle tension members predicted load and experiment depend on ultimate capacity difference. Therefore, it is thought that there is need for supplemental test and study to effective net area of tension joint focused on bolted connection of angle.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Juvenile olive flounders, <I>Paralichthys olivaceus</I> (mean weight 2.69 ± 0.31 g), were raised in bio-floc and seawater for six months, these <I>P. olivaceus</I> (mean weight 280.1 ± 10.5 g, mean length 28.37 ± 2.3 cm) were exposed to different concentrations of waterborne nitrite (0, 25, 50, 100, and 200 mg NO<SUB>2</SUB> <SUP>−</SUP>/L) for 7 days. None of the <I>P. olivaceus</I> individuals exposed to bio-floc and seawater containing waterborne nitrite concentrations of 200 mg/L for 7 days survived. Hematological parameters (hemoglobin and hematocrit) were significantly reduced by nitrite exposure. Regarding plasma components, the concentrations of glucose, glutamic oxalate transaminase (GOT), and glutamic pyruvate transaminase (GPT) increased significantly in response to nitrite exposure, whereas cholesterol concentrations significantly decreased. Stress indicators, including concentrations of plasma glucose, cortisol, and liver and gill concentrations of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) were significantly increased by nitrite exposure. The results of the study indicate that nitrite exposure affected the hematological parameters and stress indicators of <I>P. olivaceus</I> raised in bio-floc and seawater, and these changes were more prominent in the <I>P. olivaceus</I> raised in seawater than those raised in bio-floc.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Hematological paramaters of <I>P. olivaceus</I> were significantly changed by nitrite. </LI> <LI> Stress indicators of <I>P. olivaceus</I> raised in bio-floc and seawater were significantly increased by nitrite. </LI> <LI> Toxic effects on <I>P. olivaceus</I> exposed to nitrite were more prominent in the fish raised in seawater. </LI> </UL> </P>

The I-gelTM is a single-use supraglottic airway device introduced in 2007 which features a non-inflatable cuff and allows passage of a tracheal tube owing to its large diameter and short length of the airway tube. In this case, the authors experienced a difficult airway management on a 4-year-old boy with underlying Goldenhar syndrome who underwent a tonsillectomy. Intubation using a laryngoscope was unsuccessful at the first attempt. In the following attempt, we used the I-gelTM supraglottic airway for ventilation and were able to achieve successful intubation with a cuffed tube by using fiberoptic bronchoscope through the I-gelTM supraglottic airway. The authors suggest that I-gelTM is a useful device for ventilation and it has many advantages for tracheal intubation in pediatric patients with difficult airway.

In this paper, we propose a license plate detection method of running cars in various road images. The proposed method first classifies the road image into day and night images to improve detection accuracy, and then the tail-light regions are detected by finding red color areas in RGB color space. The candidate regions of the license plate areas are detected by using symmetrical property, size, width and variance of the tail-light regions, and to find the license plate areas of the various sizes the morphological operations with adaptive size structuring elements are applied. Finally, the plate area is verified and confirmed with the geometrical and image features of the license plate areas. The proposed method was tested with the various road images and the detection rates (precisions) of 84.2% of day images and 87.4% of night images were achieved.

<P>This paper reports a study of two HTS racetrack coils wound with GdBCO coated conductors, one without turn-to-turn insulation and the other with Nomex insulation. The coils were characterized by charge-discharge, over-current, and sudden discharge tests. Thermal and electrical characteristics of the GdBCO racetrack coil without insulation outperformed the insulated one. The test results confirmed that although the coil without insulation has a slow charging/discharging time constant, the no-insulation winding technique may enable a compact and protection-free racetrack-typed coil with enhanced mechanical integrity as well as better thermal and electrical stabilities.</P>
High-performance nanopattern triboelectric generator by block copolymer lithography

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Large-area nanopatterning is introduced on a flexible gold substrate by block copolymer (BCP) lithography. We fabricate ultrahigh power energy harvesting nanogenerators based on contact-electrification principle exploiting the effective contact area enhancement by block copolymer lithography. Owing to the facile and effective surface area enhancement by BCP nanopatterning, significant enhancement of triboelectric charge induction is attained. Output currents from TENG increased at least 16 times after BCP nanopatterning. This nanogenerator can generate remarkably high output voltage and current, which can directly light up 504 serially connected LEDs. The resultant nanogenerator attains the maximum instantaneous current of 1.6mA and output power of 93.2W/m<SUP>2</SUP>. Electrical energy generated by single cycle of impact force is 0.54mJ, and the average electrical energy is 114.89mW. The possibility of using additive enzymes to improve the saccharification of lignocellulosic substrates with commercial cellulolytic enzymes was studied. Reed (Phragmites communis) and rice (Oryza sativa) straw powders were pretreated with NaOH/steam via a high-temperature explosion system. The saccharification of untreated reed and rice straw powders by commercial enzymes (Celluclast 1.5 L + Novozym 188) was not significantly increased by the addition of xylanases (Xyn10J, XynX), a cellulase (Cel6H), and a ${\beta}$-1,3-1,4-glucanase (BGlc8H) with broad substrate specificity. The saccharification of the pretreated reed and rice straw powders by the commercial enzymes was increased by 10.4 and 4.8 %, respectively, by the addition of BGlc8H. In the presence of $Ca^{2+}$ and BGlc8H, the saccharification of the pretreated reed and rice straw powders by the commercial enzymes was increased by 18.5 and 11.7 %, respectively. No such effect of $Ca^{2+}$ was observed with Xyn10J, XynX, or Cel6H. The results suggest that the enzymatic conversion of lignocellulosic biomass to reducing sugars could be enhanced by certain additive enzymes such as ${\beta}$-1,3-1,4-glucanase, and that the enhancement could further be increased by $Ca^{2+}$.
