Objectives : Recently, there has been a growing enthusiasm in biological approach to personality ; the identification of genes responsible for particular personality traits. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between the 5-HT_(1Dβ) G861C polymorphism and personality traits. Methods : We recruited 218 normal subjects. The Korean version of the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) was used to assess personality traits. From blood samples taken from the subjects, DNA was isolated using standard techniques and the HT_(1Dβ) G861C polymorphism was genotyped by means of polymerase chain reaction and Homogeneous MassEXTEND method. We classified the subject into the GG, CG, and GG groups according to their genotypes. The differences in the temperament factors of the TCI between homozygote group (GG+CC genotype) and heterozygote group (CG genotype) weretested. Results : The heterozygote group had significantly lower Harm avoidance (HA) scores and higher Self-directedness scores(SD) than the homozygote group. Conclusion : In conclusion, we found some associations between the 5-HT_(1Dβ) G861C polymorphism and the personality dimension HA and SD in a normal population.

Objectives : The definite cause of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is still unknown, Evidences from familial, twin and segregation studies support the role of a genetic factor. There also are growing evidences indicating that OCD has specific neurochemical and neuroanatomical basis. Derived from the effectiveness of serotonin reuptake inhibitors in OCD treatment, several candidate genes related to serotonin regulation have been hypothesized to play on important role in the development of OCD. One of them is the serotonin transporter gene. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between serotonin transporter gene and OCD. Methods : 124 OCD patients and 119 normal controls participated in this study. Genomic DNA was extracted from their blood. The genotypes and allele frequencies of the 5-HTTLPR polymorphism between OCD group and control group were compared.And we investigated the association between 4 factors derived from YBOCS checklists and 5-HTTLPR polymorphism. Results '. In this case-control study, we could not find any association between 5-HTRLPR polymorphism and development of OCD. In OCD group, patients with L (l/s+s/s) genotype had higher scores for the religious/somatic factor than those with S genotype. Conclusion : In this study, there was no difference in genotype distributions of 5-HTTLPR between OCD and control groups. But, L genotype of 5-HTTLPR polymorphism had negative effects on some factors of the obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

An unconscious 20 year old male carried into the emergency department after an electric shock injury 20 minutes earlier. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was undertaken when asystole appeared on the electrocardiograph monitor. A 12-lead electrocardiograph was taken when in that myocardial infarction was found after performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on an electrical injury patient. We present out case's electrocardiographs with echocardio-graphic findings and radionuclide imaging studies.

We have studied nonvolatile memory properties of MOSFETs with double-stacked Si nanoclusters in the oxide-gate stacks. We formed Si nanoclusters of a uniform size distribution on a 5 nm-thick tunneling oxide layer, followed by a 10 nm-thick intermediate oxide and a second layer of Si nanoclusters by using LPCVD system. We then investigated the memory characteristics of the MOSFET and observed that the charge retention time of a double-stacked Si nanocluster MOSFET was longer than that of a single-layer device. We also found that the double-stacked Si nanocluster MOSFET is suitable for use as a dual-bit memory.

<P>Metastasis is a complex, multistep process by which a cancer cell leaves the primary tumor, travels to a distant site via the circulatory system, and establishes a secondary cancer. A deeper understanding of the molecular events underlying metastasis will provide information that will be useful for the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The B16 and B16F10 mouse melanoma cell lines are widely used as model system for studying many aspects of cancer biology including metastasis. Compared with B16, which has a low metastatic potential, the highly metastatic cell line B16F10 displayed a higher metastatic ability along with higher expression levels of the metastasis-associated phosphatase of regenerating liver-3 (PRL-3). B16 cells transfected with PRL-3 cDNA (B16-PRL3) had metastatic abilities comparable to those of Bl16F10 cells. To study the molecular mechanisms that underlie metastasis, the proteomes of the B16, B16F10, and B16-PRL3 cell lines were compared using two-dimensional differential in-gel electrophoresis. Proteins that varied significantly in levels between these cell lines were selected and identified using mass spectrometry. Interestingly, many proteins, especially those present in membrane fractions, were similarly up- or downregulated in both the Bl16F10 and B16-PRL3 cells lines compared to B16 cell lines. The list of similarly regulated proteins included heat shock protein 70, fascin-1, septin-6, ATP synthase beta subunit, and bone morphogenic protein receptor type IB. These proteins may play a causal role in PRL-3-mediated metastasis. These investigations open an avenue for the further characterization of the molecular mechanisms that underlie metastasis.</P>

<P>Scaffolds composed of biodegradable polymers and biocompatible ceramics are being used as substitutes for tissue engineering. In the development of such techniques, scaffolds with a controllable pore size and porosity were manufactured using solid free-form fabrication (SFF) methods to investigate the effects of cell interactions such as cell proliferation and differentiation. In this study, we describe the adhesion of human bone marrow stromal cells (hBMSCs) and proliferation characteristics of various scaffolds, which consist of biodegradable materials, fabricated using a multi-head deposition system (MHDS) that we developed. The MHDS uses novel technology that enables the production of three-dimensional (3D) microstructures. Fabrication of 3D tissue engineering scaffolds using the MHDS requires the combination of several technologies, such as motion control, thermal control, pneumatic control and computer-aided design/computer-assisted manufacturing software. The effects of a polymer and ceramic on a tissue scaffold were evaluated through mechanical testing and cell interaction analysis of various kinds of scaffolds fabricated using polycaprolactone, poly-lactic-co-glycolic acid and tri-calcium phosphate for bone regeneration applications. Based on these results, the feasibility of application to the tissue engineering of SFF-based 3D scaffolds fabricated by the MHDS was demonstrated.</P>

본 논문에서는 전기자동차의 동력용 모터로 적합한 고효율 고출력 특성의 IPMSM을 적용하여 고 정밀 위치센서에 의한 벡터제어 알고리즘 및 인버터 제어기를 개발하였다. 개발된 제어기의 알고리즘 검증을 위해 PSIM을 이용하여 시뮬레이션을 수행하였고, 다이나모 부하시험을 통하여 제어기의 안정된 운전특성을 가짐을 확인하였다.
