        The Butanol Fraction of Bitter Melon (Momordica charantia) Scavenges Free Radicals and Attenuates Oxidative Stress

        To investigate radical scavenging effects and protective activities of bitter melon (Momordica charantia) against oxidative stress, in vitro and a cellular system using LLC-PK₁ renal epithelial cells were used in this study. The butanol (BuOH) fraction of bitter melon scavenged 63.4% and 87.1% of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals at concentrations of 250 and 500 ㎍/mL, respectively. In addition, the BuOH fraction of bitter melon effectively scavenged hydroxyl radicals (ㆍOH). At all concentrations tested, the scavenging activity of the BuOH fraction was more potent than that of the positive control, ascorbic acid. Furthermore, under the LLC-PK₁ cellular model, the cells showed a decline in viability and an increase in lipid peroxidation through oxidative stress induced by pyrogallol, a generator of superoxide anion (O₂<sup>-</sup>). However, the BuOH fraction of bitter melon significantly and dose-dependently inhibited cytotoxicity. In addition, 3-morpholinosydnonimine (SIN-1), a generator of peroxynitrite (ONOO<sup>-</sup>) formed by simultaneous releases of nitric oxide and O₂<sup>-</sup>, caused cytotoxicity in the LLC-PK₁ cells while the BuOH fraction of bitter melon ameliorated oxidative damage induced by ONOO<sup>-</sup>. These results indicate that BuOH fraction of bitter melon has protective activities against oxidative damage induced by free radicals.

      • 서산시 洞/邑/面별 생활폐기물의 배출성상에 관한 비교(I)

        본 논문은 서산시의 폐기물 특성을 도시화지역(洞지역), 邑지역, 面지역으로 구분하여 조사 분석하였다. 도시화지역은 단독주택, 아파트, 사업지역, 공장지역, 재래시장으로 다시 나누어 시료를 채취하였으며 읍과 면지역은 혼합시료를 대상으로 하였다. 洞/邑/面지역의 겉보기밀도는 각각 0.189ton/㎥, 0.210ton/㎥, 0.191ton/㎥을 보였고 가연성물질비율은 洞지역 79.2%, 邑지역 70.5%, 面지역 73.2%이었다. 서산시 전체평균 삼성분은 수분 45.5%, 강연분 44.0%, 회분 10.5%로 나타났으며, 원소분석은 C38.3∼47.7%, H 4.4∼8.9%, N 0.6∼2.1%, S 0.1∼0.2%, Cl 0.2∼0.6%, O 23.2∼41.9%, Ash 11.2∼21.5%로 분석되었으며, 저위발열량은 1,226∼1,982㎉/㎏(평균 1,619㎉/㎏)으로 조사되었다. This study investigated physicochemical characteristics of Municipal Solid Wastes(MSW) generated in Soesan city. The sources are Dong regions(city-detached dwellings, apartments. commercial, industrial, traditional market), Eup region(1 town), Myun regions(9 rural communities). The bulky densities of solid wastes for Dang/Eup/Myun regions were 0.189ton/㎥, 0.210ton/㎥, 0.191ton/㎥ respectively. The percentages of combustible material to solid wasters were Dong region 79.2%, Eup region 70.5%, Myun region 73.2%. The proximate analysis of solid wasters showed moisture of 45.5%, volatile solids of 44.0%, and ash of 10.5%. In case of moisture content, the maximum value showed 53.3% , in traditional market and the minimum value 41.35% in Unsan Myun, Carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, chlorine, oxygen and ash of combustible solid wastes were 38.3∼47.7%, 4.4∼8.9%, 0.6∼2.1%, 0.1∼0.2%, 0.2∼0.6%, 23.2∼41.9%, 11.2∼21.5% respectively. The low heating values of combustible solid wasters were 1,226∼1,982㎉/㎏(average 1,619㎉/㎏).

        간접 복합레진 합착 시 자가부식형과 자가접착형 레진시멘트의 상아질에 대한 미세인장 결합강도

        본 연구는 간접 복합레진 수복물을 1종의 자가부식형 레진시멘트와 3종의 자가접착형 레진시멘트를 이용하여 상아질에 합착하였을 때 각 레진시멘트의 미세인장 결합강도와 결합계면의 차이를 평가하기 위하여 시행하였다. 발거된 상.하악 대구치 교합면 측 상아질에 Tescera 복합레진 블록을 레진시멘트(PA 군: Panavia F 2.0, RE 군: RelyX Unicem Clicker, MA 군: Maxem, BI 군: BisCem)를 이용하여 합착하였다. 증류수에 24시간 동안 보관한 후, 합착된 면의 단면적이 1.0 × 1.0 mm인 막대모양의 시편을 제작하여 각 시편에 분당 0.5 mm의 crosshead speed로 인장하중을 가하였다. 각 군의 미세인장 결합강도는 one-way ANOVA와 Tukey의 HSD 방법을 이용하여 비교하였다. FE-SEM 하에서 모든 파절편의 상아질 쪽 파절양상과 레진시멘트-상아질 및 레진시멘트-복합레진의 계면을 관찰하였다. 본 연구의 결과 간접 복합레진 블록을 레진시멘트로 상아질에 합착할 때 PA 군과 RE 군은 MA 군과 BI 군보다 높은 결합강도와 긴밀한 접착 및 레진테그가 관찰되었고, 복합레진과 레진시멘트 간에는 간극이 관찰되었다. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength (μTBS), failure modes and bonding interfaces of self-etching and three self-adhesive resin cements to dentin and indirect composite resin. Cylindrical composite blocks (Tescera, Bisco Inc.) were luted with resin cements (PA: Panavia F 2.0, Kuraray Medical Inc., RE: RelyX Unicem Clicker, 3M ESPE., MA: Maxem, Kerr Co., BI: BisCem, Bisco Inc.) on the prepared occlusal dentin surfaces of 20 extracted molars. After storage in distilled water for 24h, 1.0 mm × 1.0 mm composite-dentin beams were prepared. μTBS was tested at a cross-head speed of 0.5 mm/min. Data were analyzed with one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD test. Dentin sides of all fractured specimens and interfaces of resin cements-dentin or resin cements-composite were examined at FESEM(Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscope). In conclusion, PA and RE showed higher bond strength and closer adaptation than MA and BI when indirect composite blocks were luted to dentin using a self-etching and three self-adhesive resin cements.

      • 골든 리트리버 종의 전지 원위부에서 발생한 지방종의 수술적 치료 1례

        A 3-year-old intact female Golden retriever dog with a history of increasing mass on the cranial surface of the left distal forelimb was referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. On the physical examination, the patient had normal gait and no pain associated with the mass. The mass was a little fluctuant and multilobulated on palpation. On fine needle aspiration cytology examination, it was revealed clear lipid droplets, few peripheral blood cells and large number of well-differentiated adipocytes. The mass was surgically removed beneath redial nerve and superficial cephalic vein. During surgical resection, there was no evidence of invasion into muscles or fascia. On the basis of histopathological examination, it was diagnosed as lipoma. There has no evidence of recurrence of lipoma for six months.

This paper explains the OMG CORBA, Object Web and Java which is an object oriented interpreter language developed at Sun Microsystems. In this paper, we design the client user interfaces, application objects and database objects of the stock market management systems.

      • 澱粉용액의 리오로지적 性質에 관한 硏究

        The viscometric behavior of rice starch solution was studied with the capillary tube viscometer operated under various pleasures. Heated starch solution ranged from 3 to 9wt% were used as samples and flow constants in an equation r=(1/K)(gcτ- gcτy)n were determined by a non-linear least square method using the digital electronic computer. The value of flow behavior index n was found to be 1.2 in all samples. In the case of 3 and 5 wt% solutions, the values of yield stress could be overlooked, but the values of τy were relatively large and increased with the increase in concentration from 5 to 9 wt%. The temperatue dependence of flow consistency index K measured at 30~80℃ were expressed by Arrhenius equation. The values of activation energy were 3.5 to 10.2 kcal/mol.
