Industrialization has introduced various working systems into the modern society. Shift work is a good representative among those. So far various adverse health effects, possibly caused by this shift work, have mainly been reported in the fields of manufacturing industry by many other researchers ; sleep disorders, gastrointestinal disorders and cardiovascular disorders and so on, These health effects were thought to be caused by the changes of circadian rhythm on shift working. This study was especially planned to evaluate effects of shift work on sleep disorders among shift-working medical manpower like hospital nurses, important persons dealings with lives, and ultimately to provide them with basic evidence for improving work environment. The study subjects were arbitrarily selected among shift-working female nurses and day-working female pharmacists in one university hospital in Seoul, and finally 79 nurses and 58 pharmacists were enrolled. The research was conducted by using self-administered questionnaire, consisting of items about socio-behavioral factors including demographic factors which can affect sleep patterns and questions which make it possible to evaluate sleep disorders(e.g. sleeping duration, sleep latency, re-sleep latency, days of insomnia per week, drug use for sleep, and subjective symptoms). The result showed that the shift workers had significantly longer sleep and re-sleep latency, more days of insomnia, and a stronger likelihood of using drugs when they had sleep difficulty than day-working pharmacists. And the number of night shift duties per month was discovered as the only significant predictor of sleep latency. Additionally, the subjective symptoms related to sleep disorders when awake and at work, showed negligible differences between the shift workers and dayworkers. In conclusion, we found shift-work was risk factor for sleep disorders.

Background:The kidney size is important in differentiating many renal diseases. Some studies have been reported about the normal kidney size in the foreign countries. However, no studies were performed by using ultrasonography in Korea. Therefore, we investigated the normal kidney length, the factors affecting the kidney length and the relationship of each other. Methods:One thousand three hundred eighty eight healthy Koreans were scanned for the kidney length by ultrasonography and were measured for their body index(height, weight, body surface area, total body water, and fat free mass). We analyzed the association between kidney length and body index. Results:Eight hundred four male and five hundred eighty four female were involved in this study and their mean age was 47.8?10.3 in male, 48.1?9.5 in female. 1) The average value of left and right kidney was 10.65±0.80cm, 10.50?0.78cm respectively, and the left kidney was greater than right one(P$lt;0.01). 2) The difference between male and female was 10.77cm, 10.49±0.78cm respectively in the left kidney and 10.66±0.76cm, 10.27±0.75cm in the right kidney(P$lt;0.01). 3) The aging process nearly does not affects the kidney size from 4th decade to 7th decade. However, the kidney size is getting smaller after 8th decade. 4) The correlation coefficient between the kidney size and height, weight, body surface area, total body water, fat free mass was 0.37, 0.41, 0.43, 0.37, 0.38(P$lt;0.01) respectively. Conclusion:The kidney length showed normal distribution in normal Korean adult and the length greater than 12.36cm, smaller than 8.76cm means out of its range of normal(±2SD) irrespective of sex and position. The body surface area has the largest correlation with kidney size in both sex(r=0.38/0.44; left/right, P$lt;0.01).

To recover much residual lignin from the black liquor of kraft pulp, the black liquor was extracted and purified with many organic solvents. Many kinds of lignins were isolated from each fraction obtained and the characteristics of these lignins investigated by ^(13)C-NMR spectroscopy. If Mo¨rck's method was compared with Kirk's method, Morck's method was better than Kirk's method because the particular signals of each lignin occur more in the former than in the latter. Especially the ^(13)C-NMR spectrum of the MCS traction identifies with those of other researchers. The experiment that the kraft lignin from Pinus densiflora S. et Z. found in Korea was investigated by ^(13)C-NMR spectroscopy was performed first in Korea.
Oil Removal Using Diethyl Ether Extracted and Ground Kenaf Core

<P>Kenaf core was tested for its ability to sorb diesel oil from the pure diesel oil bath and the diesel oil containing water bath after extracting with diethyl ether to remove wax from fiber surface, grinding to disrupt lumen structure and presoaking in water. Oil sorption capacity was the highest as 8.0 g/g in diethyl ether extracted fiber in oil bath, and the lowest as 1.3 g/g in water soaked kenaf core in water bath. Diesel oil sorption capacity was much higher in oil bath than in water bath. In diethyl ether extraction the diesel oil sorption capacity was not changed much in kenaf core, compared to that of control. Also, even after grinding and passing through 20 mesh screen (0.86mm) the diesel oil sorption capacity was almost same. When kenaf core was presoaked in water the oil sorption capacity was decreased to about half of control as 1.3g/g in water bath. Grinding, extracting and water presoaking all contributed to the changes in oil sorption capacity. The results show that if in lignocelluloscic fiber like kenaf core the fiber structure is not disrupted during processing and the intact lumen structure can be kept, the oil sorption capacity may not be affected much by physical and chemical changes.</P>
Enhancement of Feed Gas Distribution of Heterogeneous Catalytic Fixed-bed Reactor

다상 고정층 촉매반응기(Multiphase catalytic fixed-bed reactor)에서 기체 유동과 관련, 반응기 내부 구조 디자인에 따른 feed 가스의 분산성 변화를 분석하였다. 다상 촉매반응기의 경우 feed gas의 투입방법이 전체 공정의 반응효율을 크게 결정하는바 본 연구에서는 산업현장에서 활용도가 높은 환형 가스 주입부로 구성된 다상 고정층 촉매반응기를 대상으로 다양한 조건하에서 촉매 반응기 내부에서의 feed가스 분산성 변화를 분석하였다. 다상 촉매반응기의 feed gas 주입과 관련하여 다양한 방안이 제시되고 있는데 그 중 환형 가스 주입방식을 활용하는 방법은 타 기술대비 상대적으로 저렴한 투자비와 좁은 작업공간하에서 기체의 분산성을 향상 시킬수 있는 특징이 있어 실제 상업 공정에서의 활용성이 매우 높다. 본 논문에서는 특히 기-고 촉매 반응기 내부 반응기체의 분산성 향상을 위해 환형 가스 주입장치 내부에 설치된 가스 주입홀 구성방법에 따른 반응기 내부 유동을 분석하였다. 분석결과 주입홀의 위치가 가스 투입라인의 접선방향에 위치하는 것은 전체 분산성에 큰 영향을 주지 못하며 대부분 가스투입 입구와 맞은편 부분에 위치하는 경우 분산성이 향상되는 것으로 분석되었다. 결과적으로 환형 가스주입장치의 최적 설계는 feed 가스의 분산성에 큰 영향을 미치므로 초기단계에서 이러한 점을 고려한 설계 및 분석연구가 선행되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

As for the research direction of existing household electric range, research on efficiency increase and electricity consumption through resonant circuit configuration was conducted. In recent years, the research direction of household electric range is being actively researched to apply the user’s convenience. Therefore, this paper confirms the applicability of a circuit configuration with a remote(Wifi) control function added for user convenience for eco-friendly household electric ranges. In the future, the disabled and the elderly plan to test whether the proposed device can be controlled remotely.
