Document Clustering Using Reference Titles

Titles have been regarded as having effective clustering features, but they sometimes fail to represent the topic of a document and result in poorly generated document clusters. This study aims to improve the performance of document clustering with titles by suggesting titles in the citation bibliography as a clustering feature. Titles of original literature, titles in the citation bibliography, and an aggregation of both titles were adapted to measure the performance of clustering. Each feature was combined with three hierarchical clustering methods, within group average linkage, complete linkage, and Ward's method in the clustering experiment. The best practice case of this experiment was clustering document with features from both titles by within-groups average method.

Research has taken priority of many activities in universities and it has eventually brought the heat on research support services of libraries to meet high expectation of university researchers. To identify the major content areas and service methods of research guides serviced through digital libraries of universities, this study investigated research guides of 60 university libraries in North America and Korea. As a result, 13 categories for research guide contents were identified and 5 crucial areas for the contents development were suggested. It also analyzed providing methods of online research guides and communicating methods between librarians and users. Librarians were identified as the prime human resource to develope and manage research guides, which will play an important role in expanding diversity of librarians' roles in the future. 대학에서 연구가 중요한 활동으로 주목을 받게 되면서 대학도서관에서도 연구지원 역할이 강조되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 북미 및 국내 60개 대학의 디지털도서관 홈페이지에서 온라인상으로 연구지원 가이드를 제공하는 현황을 조사하여 13개의 주요 내용유형을 분석하였고 이를 기반으로 하여 대학도서관이 연구지원 가이드 내용을 구성하는데 고려해야 할 5개의 주요 영역을 제시하였다. 또한 연구지원 가이드가 온라인상으로 제공되는 방식과 가이드를 통해 사서와 이용자가 소통하는 방식을 분석하였다. 연구지원 가이드를 제작, 제공하는 주체는 사서이며 대학도서관의 사서 역할은 향후 정보를 제공하는 역할에서 이용자를 위한 정보를 생산하는 역할로 확장될 것으로 예측된다.

Instruction is an emerging critical factor of library services and the practice of instructional activities has expanded to related various areas. This study analyses librarian job advertisements to identify roles, responsibilities, and job qualifications of instruction librarian. Findings include reference services and collection development are important Parts for instruction librarians' work as well as instructional activities. Knowledge on web and instructional applications are also emphasized in the job description of instruction librarians.

As the number of users who ask and give answers in the query-answer documents retrieval system is growing exponentially, the query-answer document become a crucial information resource, as a new type of information retrieval service. A query-answer document Consists of three structural parts : a query, explanation on query, and answers Chosen by users who asked the query. To identify the role of each structural part in representing the topics of documents, the three structural parts were clustered automatically and the results of several clustering tests were compared in this study.

The objective of this study is to provide a basis for information literacy instruction in college education. For this purpose, assignments and surveys were distributed to the students in a 3 credit course that deals with the characteristics of information society and information literacy competency. Assignments and surveys were about identification of the information needed and access to the needed information, since that is the first step for the information seeking process. The results were analysed by qualitative methods.

Open access journal has been one of the major academic information sources for researchers characterizing itself as free resource. Recently, as competition among academic information service provides becomes intense, open access journal also needs to enhance its service and expand information service function. This study aims to propose service features for next generation service of open access journals by analyzing service features of leading journal database services. As a result, four service features are suggested such as journal article components and multimedia features, expanded searching features, social service features and mobile information service. 오픈액세스 학술지는 무료로 원문에 접근할 수 있다는 특성을 부각시키면서 학술 연구자들이 학술정보를 찾는 주요 정보서비스로 자리를 잡아가고 있다. 그러나 최근 들어 정보환경이 변화하면서 오픈액세스 학술지 서비스의 실효성을 확보하기 위해서 서비스의 개선과 확장에 대한 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 이와 같은 환경적 변화를 반영하여 차세대 오픈액세스 학술지 서비스에 대한 방안을 기존 학술정보서비스의 서비스 요소를 분석하여 도출하고자 하였다. 분석결과 기존 학술정보서비스에서는 이용자의 참여를 유도하는 서비스가 부족한 것으로 나타났고 개방성 역시 미흡한 것으로 나타났다. 오픈액세스 차세대 모형을 위해 제시된 요소는 총 4개 영역으로 학술논문 구성 요소별 제공 및 멀티미디어 제공, 부가 정보 검색, 개방형 학술정보 공유 서비스, 모바일 서비스 등이다.

비영어권 이용자를 위한 공공도서관 영어독서 프로그램 사례 연구

영어는 국제적 환경에서 중요한 정보 활용의 도구로 인식되고 있어 영어독서능력도 점차 중요한 정보 활용능력으로 주목받고 있다. 이 같은 변화는 공공도서관 독서 프로그램에도 영향을 미치는 요인이 되고 있어 이 연구에서는 비영어권 이용자를 대상으로 하는 영어독서지도 프로그램의 운영 역사가 긴 미국 캘리포니아 지역의 50개 공공도서관에서 운영하는 영어독서지도 프로그램의 현황과 성공사례를 분석하여 국내 도서관이 수용할 수 있는 주요 요소와 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다. 분석결과 중 주목할 만한 사항은 공공도서관이 평생교육측면에서 성인들의 영어독서활동을 지원하여야 하는 역할을 해야 한다는 점과 가정 내에 영어독서환경을 조성할 수 있도록 지원하여 도서관 중심의 독서활동을 가정으로 확장하여 영어독서습관을 형성할 수 있도록 지원해야 한다는 것이다. 또한 모국어 독서습관이 외국어 독서활동에도 중요한 영향을 미치고 있으므로 영어독서 프로그램의 선행과정으로 모국어 독서역량을 강화해야 하는 것도 중요한 시사점이다.
