Medical humanities are important disciplines in the education of healthcare professionals to achieve the goal of training healthcare professionals with a deep understanding of human beings and society. In this study, we investigated the scope of humanities and social science education proposed by the accreditation criteria of healthcare professional colleges, including medical, dentistry, oriental medicine, and nursing schools in Korea. Specific curricula related to humanities education were investigated from 19 medical schools, nine dentistry schools, 12 oriental medical schools, and 18 nursing schools. The most frequently offered liberal arts courses were English and writing, while major courses included ethics, regulations, communication, psychology, history, and management. Humanities courses tend to be placed in lower grades and social sciences in higher grades, but overall, education in humanities and social studies is spread throughout the entire school grades. This result would be an important reference in designing humanities and social medicine curricula integrated with six-year pharmacy school educational programs. Subjects such as pharmacy ethics, professionalism, pharmacy communication, history of pharmacy, healthcare policies and health insurance, regional public health and health promotion, management, and evidence-based pharmacy are suggested. Further discussions on the best selection of subjects and teaching methods should be continued.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of cigarette filter on in vitro cytotoxicity of cigarette mainstream smoke from the cigarette. In this work, we used 3 types of cigarettes included non-filtered 2R4F cigarette, cellulose acetate-filtered 2R4F cigarette, and carbon dual-filtered 2R4F cigarette which was made from original 2R4F by replacing with an acetate filter containing carbon. The cytotoxicity of both the cigarette smoke condensate (CSC), which was collected in Cambridge filter pad, and the gas/vapor phase (GVP), which was bubbled through in phosphate-buffered saline in a gas-washing bottle, was determined using a neutral red uptake assay with CHO-K1 cells. With regard to cytotoxicity when calculated on an equal puff basis, the cytotoxicity of CSC from the filtered cigarettes was lower than that of the non filtered cigarette. Also, $EC_{50}$ vlaue of GVP from carbon filter cigarette was 40.9 puff/L, indicating the cytotoxicity to be $20\%$ lower than that of the CA filter cigarette. The cytotoxicity of the GVP was correlated to the several vapor phase components (formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acetone, acrolein, crotonaldehyde and MEK). In conclusion, carbon filter, which significantly reduced the amount of carbonyl compounds in mainstream cigarette smoke, results in significant reductions in the cytotoxicity potential of the smoke.

This study was aimed to provide the controlled terminology for adverse drug reactions by selecting an appropriate internationally standardized classifications (WHO-ART or MedDRA). We collected the relevant information on ADR terminology systems including WHO-ART and MedDRA by online searching and visiting pharmaceutical companies and WHO UMC (Uppsala Monitoring Centre, Uppsala, Sweden). For MedDRA, project leader directly communicated with the officer of MSSO (Maintenance and Support Services Organization). Collecting all the pertinent information, two possible terminology classifications or systems (WHO-ART and MedDRA) were compared in the views of acceptability, cost-effectiveness and international feasibility and reviewed by the consultation committee and finally WHO-ART was selected.

Background: CD40-activated B (CD40-B) cells might be an attractive source of autologous antigen-presenting cells (APCs) for immunotherapy due to the convenience to obtain from peripheral blood and expand in vitro. Moreover, CD40-B cells were found to be comparable with DCs in their capacity to raise antigen-specific CD8+ T cells. Here, we have established K562 cells expressing CD40L to expand CD40-activated B cells used for APCs. Methods: After activation of B cell by K562/CD40L, CD40-B cells were examined by counting B cell numbers. Surface expression of CD54, CD80, CD86 and HLA class II was measured by flow cytometry. The CD40-B cells were tested for its function as APC by mixed lymphocyte reactions (MLR) and by induction of T cell responses specific for pp65 peptide in vitro. Results: The expansion of B cells by K562/CD40L increased about 6-folds compared with anti-CD40 or K562. Furthermore, the expression of CD54, CD80, CD86 and HLA class II was up-regulated by K562/CD40L. B cells by K562/CD40L showed comparable antigen presentation activity with mature DCs as shown in MLR, INF-${\gamma}$ ELISPOT assay. Conclusion: These results suggest that K562/CD40L could be used to generate activated B cells as potent APCs which could be useful for cellular vaccination and adoptive immunotherapy.
뇌하수체 세포인 GH3세포에서 non-genomic action을 통한 Nonylphenol의 nitric oxide 증진효과

본 연구는 환경호르몬(endocrine disruptors)으로 분류되었으며,에스트로젠 화합물의 특성을 지닌 4-Nonylphenol(NP)이 설치류 pituitary 세포 중 성장호르몬을 분비하는 GH3 세포의 Nitric oxide (NO)을 증가시키는 작용기전을 규명코자 수행되었다. 먼저 GH3세포에 NP처리 농도에 따른 NO의 생성을 측정한결과 NP처리농도 의존적으로 증가시켰다. 이러한 NO의 증가가 genomic action인지를 확인하기 위해GH3 세포의 NO를 증가시키는 효소인 neuronal oxide synthase의 단백질량을 측정한 결과 CH3 세포에서NP에 의한 nNOS의 단백질의 변화는 없었다. 에스트로젠 화합물인 NP가 에스트로젠 리셉터 (ER)와의관계를 조사하기 위해 ER억제제(ICI 168,780)를 처리한 경우 NP에 의해 증가한 NO가 감소하였다. 또한유전자 전사억제제인 actlnomycin D 및 단백질 발현 억제제인 cycloheximide을 처리한 경우는 NP에 의한NO 증가억제효과가 없었다. 이러한 결과를 종합해 볼 때 GH3 세포에서 NP는 ER을 매개한 non-genomicaction에 의해 NO를 증가키는 것으로 사료된다.
