This study was performed to investigate the changes of Monascus pigment, the monacolin K contents, antioxidant components and quality characteristics of several varieties of red yeast rice (Hangaru, Shingil, and Samkwang) that were fermented by Monascus purpureus for seven different time periods (0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 days). The Monascus pigment of all the rice varieties increased with increasing the fermentation period. The yellow group pigment significantly increased from 1.019 to 4.111 and the red group increased from 0.627 to 4.221 at 10 days for the Hangaru variety. The monacolin K contents significantly increased at 15 days fermentation and the amount of monacolin K at 30 days fermentation was the highest (234.92 mg/kg) for Hangaru, followed by Shingil (201.85 mg/kg) and Samkwang (187.33 mg/kg). The total polyphenol and flavonoid contents of Hangaru were 6.02 and 0.67 mg/g, respectively, and these values were higher than those for Samkwang (4.65 and 0.59 mg/g). These results indicated that the processed rice variety Hangaru is suitable for production of red yeast rice, which can be used to enhance the functionality of food. 쌀 품종과 배양기간이 홍국쌀의 색소, monacolin K, 항산화 성분 및 활성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 가공용 쌀인 한가루와 신길 품종 및 일반 쌀인 삼광 품종으로 홍국을 제조하였다. 배양기간에 따라 모든 품종의 황색(400 nm), 오렌지색(470 nm), 적색(500 nm) 색소 생성량이 증가했으며, 한가루 품종이 10일 차에 급격한 증가를 보였다. Monacolin K 함량은 균이 성장한 후 15일 차에 크게 증가했으며, 배양 30일 차에는 한가루 품종이 234.92 mg/kg, 신길 품종이 201.85 mg/kg, 삼광 품종이 187.33 mg/kg 함량을 나타내었다. 총 폴리페놀, 플라보노이드 함량은 한가루 품종이 각각 6.02, 0.67 mg/g으로 높았으며, 신길 품종이 각각 5.72, 0.63 mg/g, 삼광 품종이 각각 4.65, 0.59 mg/g으로 낮았다. 본 실험 결과 가공용인 한가루 품종에서 색소와 monacolin K 함량이 많고 항산화 성분 및 활성이 높게 나타나 홍국쌀 제조에 적합한 것으로 판단된다.

Pulmonary epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (PEH), previously known as "intravascular bronchoalveolar tumor," is a rare vascular tumor of the lung. PEH can be primary in the lung and pleura, or it may arise in the liver, soft tissue or bone. PEH typically occurs as bilateral multiple nodules among young women. But some cases also develop as a solitary lung nodule or a single cavitary nodule, usually without calcification. We describe here an unusual case of PEH in a 74-year-old female with a 3.0 cm dominant mass along with bilateral multiple calcified small nodules. Overall histologic findings of the solitary tumor accorded with conventional PEH. After comprehensive analysis of morphology, radiography, histochemistry, im-munohistochemistry and differential diagnoses, PEH presenting multiple calcified small nodules was confirmed. The patient was treated with analgesics and the chest pain gradually subsided. Six months after the diagnosis, the radiological and clinical status of the patient remained unchanged. The patient continues medical follow-up but without specific treatment.
로봇 팔의 제어를 위한 포텐셜미터를 이용한 팔 움직임 감지 시스템 개발

In this paper, an arm motion sensing system using potentiometer is developed. Most motion sensing systems use optical method for the quality of motion data. The optical method needs much cost for manufacturing capture system and takes much time for correcting the captured data. And mechanical method entails relativity low cost, but it uses the wires and takes much time for correcting the data like the optical method. For solving the problems, in this paper, an arm motion sensing system is newly developed using low cost potentiometer and based on the suggested simple calculation method for the joint angles and the angular velocities. For the verification of the performance of the developed system, practical experiments were executed using real human arm motion and a robot arm. The experimental results showed that the motion of the robot arm controlled by the output of the developed motion sensing system is much similar with the motion of human arm.

It is well known that extracts of purple sweet potato (PSP) have potent antioxidant activity. However, it has not been established whether extracts of PSP inhibit oxidation of low-denstiy lipoprotein (LDL) or protein glycation. LDL oxidation and protein glycation are well-known risk factors for chronic metabolic diseases, such as atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus. Chopped and sliced PSP and yellow sweet potato (YSP) were extracted individually at a concentration of 1g of PSP tuber/mL using either ethanol or water for 6 hours. The PSP ethanol extract (100-fold diluted) showed stronger radical (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical) scavenging activity than the water extract of PSP and the ethanol extract of YSP (up to a sixfold higher activity). The ethanol extract of PSP also exhibited the highest increase in ferric reducing ability among all extracts. Cupric ion-mediated LDL oxidation was strongly inhibited by the ethanol extract of PSP, with similar potency to vitamin C treatment (final concentration, 10mM). The PSP extract strongly inhibited fructose-mediated protein glycation as determined by fluorescence spectroscopy. The PSP extract-treated apolipoprotein (apo) A-I showed a decreased multimerization pattern on sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, whereas glycated apoA-I showed the strongest multimeric band. PSP extract treatment also inhibited the uptake of oxidized LDL into human macrophage cells with suppression of malondialdehyde production in the cell culture medium. In conclusion, these results suggest that the extract of PSP can be used as a putative anti-atherosclerotic and antidiabetic agent with strong antioxidant functions. This is the first report to show the biological functions of PSP extract to treat hyperlipidemic and hyperglycemic disorders.
