The purpose of this study was to compare the sealing abilities of four endodontic temporary restorative materials using a methylene blue dye penetration test under dynamic loading. Standardized access cavities were prepared in forty-four intact human permanent molar teeth, and the cavities were restored with Caviton, MD-Temp, IRM, or ZOE. After thermocycling, an intermittent load of 98 N at 1 Hz was applied for 1,000 cycles to the long axis of the functional cusp of each of the teeth, which were immersed in a 1% methylene blue solution. The teeth were split in half, and the linear depth of dye penetration was evaluated according to the criteria. The results were analyzed using one-way ANOVA (p = 0.05) and Duncan' s multiple range test. The results demonstrated that Caviton and MD-Temp showed significantly lower microleakage than IRM and ZOE. It was concluded that Caviton and MD-Temp exhibited better sealing ability than IRM and ZOE under dynamic loading.

The fringe-field switching (FFS) mode was known to exhibit both a wide viewing angle and high transmittance, especially when using the liquid crystal (LC) with negative dielectric anisotropy. In the device, the LC director rotates almost in-plane. However, in the bright state the device shows bluish and yellowish color along parallel and perpendicular to the LC director at off-normal directions since the LC director rotates only in one direction. Such a problem was greatly improved using a wedge shape of only pixel electrodes. In this way two different field directions exist in a pixel, enabling the LC director to rotate in two opposite directions. Consequently, owing to dual domain effect when using the LC with negative dielectric anisotropy, the viewing angle characteristics are greatly improved.

Background and Objectives:Although the complication of using e-PTFE as augmentation material in rhinoplasty for ocidental patients have ben reported, but only a little information is available for oriental patients. The aim of the present study is to analyze complications of e-PTFE for nasal augmentation in rhinoplasty for oriental patients. Materials and Method:The subjects consisted of 1376 patients who had been performed augmentation rhinoplasty with e-PTFE betwen January 1994 and October group revision cases. The revision group was divided into two groups according to the diferent techniques performed, one being the minor group that had been performed the simple technique, and the other group that had been performed the complicated technique. We reviewed postoperative complications of augmentation rhinoplasty with artificial implants including displacement, surface irregularity, infection, dorsal line and height problem, soft tisue reaction, extrusion and resorption. Results:Side efects occured in 127 (9.2%) of the 1376 patients:38 (29.9%) was displacement, 29 (22.8%) dorsal height problem, 23 (18.1%) surface irregularity, 18 (14.2%) dorsal line and 18 (14.2%) infection and others. Conclusion:Compared with other autogenous and artificial materials, the study found e-PTFE as a good material for augmentation rhinoplasty for the orientals.
