Vol.24 No.2

The aim of present study was to investigate the relationship between obesity and health fitness in middle school students living Seoul city. The subjects were selected 385 male students and 156 female students of first and second grades. The difference between the groups of the rating of PAPS and health fitness items based on students’ obesity was analyzed by using One-way ANOVA. First, in the relationship of the male students’ PAPS rating and BMI, there is no BMI difference between the first rating and second rating groups while there is the BMI difference among other rating groups. Second, in the relationship of the female students’ PAPS rating and BMI, there is no BMI difference between the first rating group and the second and third rating groups while there is the BMI difference between the first rating group and the fourth rating group. The second rating students do not have BMI difference from the first rating students but they have the BMI difference from the third and the fourth rating students. Finally, in the relationship between the female students’ physical strength elements and BMI, the normal student has the difference from the obese students but has no difference from the overweighted students in terms of the record of 20 meter shuttle run. Contrary to the male students, there is no recording difference between the obese students and the overweighted students. In the sitting trunk flexion test, the result is the same as that of male students. In the 50- meter run, the case of the students who are normal in BMI has the same result as that of male students but there is no recording difference between the obese students and the overweighted students.

Breast Cancer Statistics in Korea, 2018

2021 Journal of breast cancer Vol.24 No.2

Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in Korean women, and its incidence continues to increase. The Korean Breast Cancer Society (KBCS) established a nationwide breast cancer database through its online enrollment program in 1996. This study aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics of breast cancer in Korea, and to assess the pattern of changes in breast cancer management in 2018. We analyzed the KBCS and Korea Central Cancer Registry (KCCR) databases in 2018. In 2018, 28,157 patients were newly diagnosed with breast cancer, of whom 4,510 had noninvasive breast cancer and 23,647 had invasive breast cancer. The age-standardized rate of breast cancer in 2018 was 79.0 per 100,000 women (65.6 invasive, 13.4 noninvasive). The median age of female patients diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 was 52 years, and the incidence of breast cancer was the highest in the 40–49-years age group (9,432 patients, 33.6%). The proportion of patients with stage 0 and stage I breast cancer continued to increase, accounting for 63.8% of cases, and breast-conserving surgery was performed more often than mastectomy (66.2% vs. 33.0%). The most common subtypes of breast cancer were hormone receptor [HR]-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2)-negative types (65.9% of cases), while the HR-negative and HER2-positive types accounted for 9.2% of cases. According to the KCCR data, from 2014 to 2018, the 5-year relative survival rate of patients with breast cancer was 93.3%, which was 14.0% higher than that from 1993 to 1995 (79.3%). The clinical characteristics of breast cancer in Korea have been changing, and national databases can improve our understanding of the disease characteristics of Korean women. Therefore, updating the KBCS registry is important for the effective management of breast cancer in Korea.

Stereotactic vacuum-assisted breast biopsy under lateral decubitus position

2016 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.90 No.1

Purpose: Stereotactic vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (VAB) has been established as a standard method for histological diagnosis of microcalcification or nonpalpable breast lesions on mammography. Generally, the procedure has been done under the prone position or upright sitting position. We herein attempt to evaluate clinical utility of Stereotactic VAB under lateral decubitus position. Methods: One hundred six women (mean age, 51.2 years) with mammographically detected microcalcification underwent lateral decubitus positioning VAB using the 8G probe. In all cases, we obtained mammography specimens for identification of microcalcification and postprocedure mammography. We reviewed mean procedure time, pieces of specimen, pathology and follow-up mammography. Results: The procedure took approximately 20 minutes (range, 15–24 minutes). Average number of obtained specimens was 8.5 pieces (range, 6–12 pieces). Microcalcifications were confirmed in both specimen mammography and microscopic slides. Of 106 cases, 10 cases were diagnosed as ductal carcinoma in situ. Additional surgical management was performed. Atypical ductal hyperplasias were found in 8 cases, and fibrocystic changes in 88 cases. Conclusion: Stereotactic VAB using the 8G probe under lateral decubitus position does not need a dedicated table, and is easier to maintain the position. Also, this procedure is accurate and safe. Thus, stereotactic VAB using the 8G probe under lateral decubitus position will be a useful method for diagnosis of microcalcification or nonpalpable breast lesions on mammography

Frequency of reoperation in patients who underwent breast reconstruction using Allergan implants after an interview about breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma

2022 Archives of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Vol.28 No.2

Background In recent years, breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) has emerged as an important concern. At our institution, patients who received breast reconstruction using Allergan implants were informed individually about BIA-ALCL. The present study analyzed correlations between patients’ level of satisfaction with their breast shape and whether they chose to undergo reoperation (implant removal or replacement). Methods Breast reconstruction with Allergan implants was performed between December 2014 and April 2018. In total, 107 patients were interviewed, excluding those who had died, were unreachable, or had already undergone reoperation. The mean follow-up period was 53 months (range, 26–73 months). Results After the interviews, 68 patients postponed reoperation, 29 had their implant replaced, and 10 had their implant removed. Nearly one-fifth (18.9%) of patients who were satisfied with their breast shape (13 out of 69) underwent reoperation due to anxiety over ALCL. Meanwhile, 68.4% of patients who were not satisfied due to capsular contracture or scar contracture (26 out of 38) underwent reoperation. Sixteen of the 30 patients who received postoperative radiotherapy (53.3%) chose to undergo reoperation. Conclusions Satisfaction with the cosmetic outcomes of implant placement played a meaningful role in patients’ decisions to undergo reoperation. This tendency may be linked to postoperative radiotherapy, which is a major contributor to complications such as contracture. Nonetheless, a substantial proportion of patients who were satisfied with the outcomes chose to undergo reoperation due to concerns regarding ALCL.

Estrous Synchronization and Artificial Inseminationin in European Mouflon (Ovis gmelini musimon)

Vol.24 No.4

To establish a protocol of estrus induction and synchronization in European mouflon, we performed artificial insemination using frozen-thawed semen and exogenous hormones. CIDR was inserted into vaginas of four mouflons for 16 days. A day before removal of CIDR, PG 600 was injected intramuscularly. PGF2α was injected when removing CIDR. Artificial insemination was cervically conducted with injecting LHRH 48 hours after CIDR withdrawal. Even though no pregnancy was confirmed, estrous signs were notified like open cervix, congestion of vaginal wall and discharge of cervical mucus. Further research in the wild sheep would be needed for development of artificial breeding methods and advancing sustainability of domestic zoos.
