To establish a protocol of estrus induction and synchronization in European mouflon, we performed artificial insemination using frozen-thawed semen and exogenous hormones. CIDR was inserted into vaginas of four mouflons for 16 days. A day before removal of CIDR, PG 600 was injected intramuscularly. PGF2α was injected when removing CIDR. Artificial insemination was cervically conducted with injecting LHRH 48 hours after CIDR withdrawal. Even though no pregnancy was confirmed, estrous signs were notified like open cervix, congestion of vaginal wall and discharge of cervical mucus. Further research in the wild sheep would be needed for development of artificial breeding methods and advancing sustainability of domestic zoos.

We report herein the successful results of estrus induction, sperm cryopreservation and kids born by transcervical insemination of frozen-thawed semen in a Saanen goat. Flugestone acetate (FGA: 60 mg) was inserted into vagina for 15 days. The goat was intramuscularly injected with 400 IU PMSG and 200 IU hCG (PG600Ⓡ: Intervet, Korea) a day before withdrawal of the FGA sponge. Follicles and corpora lutea were identified on both ovaries by laparoscopy. Artificial insemination was performed 46 hours after removal of FGA sponge. The concentration of frozenthawed semen was 3.975×108/ml and 0.5 ml of frozen-thawed semen was transcervically inseminated into uterine body under anesthesia. Three kids, all females, were born 144 days after artificial insemination. This is the first report producing kids by transcervical insemination of frozen-thawed semen in a Saanen goat of which the estrus was induced by FGA sponges, PMSG and hCG during non-breeding season in Korea.

A female Saanen goat was pregnated by a Markhor (Capra falconeri) and three Himalayan tahrs (Hemitragus jemlahicus) were mismated by a conspecific male at Seoul zoo. Cross-breeding whether intentional or unintentional is considered opposite to the primary rule of species conservation. The Markhor, imported in October, 2002, having the number of chromosomes (2n = 60) same as domestic goats accidently mated with a Saanen goat. The mating time was back-calculated on the basis of zookeepers’ record. The Saanen and three Himalayan tahrs (2n = 48) were successfully aborted by intramuscularly injecting 15mg PGF2α (dinoprost tromethamine).

In this paper, optimal spot weld layout design for a shock tower structure is presented. This design increases the fatigue life of the spot-welds thereby increasing the fatigue life of the shock tower itself. In order to predict the fatigue life, a quasi-static analysis has been conducted then a fatigue analysis was performed through the application of random vibration loads. In order to optimize the spot weld layout, the design variables that have an effect on the spot weld fatigue life were determined. A spot weld fatigue analysis was then conducted based on the experiment design. Finally, a response surface model was made using the fatigue analysis results and an optimized spot weld layout model, one that increases the fatigue life of the spot welds and thereby the fatigue life of the shock tower, was developed.
비드 형상 최적화를 이용한 전방 측면 부재의 충돌 최적화 연구

본 논문은 위상최적화 기법을 이용하여 전방측면 부재를 최적화 한다. 전방측면 부재에 최적화를 진행하기 전에 사각단면 부재에 최적화를 진행한다. 목적함수는 1 차 좌굴 계수가 길이방향으로 최소화 되도록 설정한다. 설계변수는 법선방향으로 질점의 이동이다. 사각단면부재의 반응표면법을 이용한 최적화 모델과 위상최적화 모델에 대해 충돌해석을 수행한다. 위상최적화 기법을 검증하기 위해 두 결과를 비교한다. 그 결과 위상최적화 기법을 충돌해석에 적용할 수 있다는 것을 확인하고 실제차량의 전방측면부재에 적용한다. 결과적으로 전방측면 부재는 최적화되고 내충격성이 향상한다. In this study, the front side member is optimized using a topography optimization technique. Optimization of a simple beam is conducted before optimization of the front side member. The objective function is set to minimize the first buckling factor in the longitudinal direction. The design variable corresponds to the perturbation of nodes normal to the shell’s mid-plane space. The crash analysis is conducted on a simple beam, which is optimized by Response Surface Method and the topography optimization technique. In order to verify the topography optimization technique, the results of the RSM and topography optimization model are compared. Consequently, we confirm the satisfactory performance of the topography optimization technique, and apply this topography optimization to the front side member. Thus, the front side member is optimized and its crashworthiness is increased.

Eight female Himalayan tahrs (Hemitragus jemlahicus) were estrus-synchronized, and transcervically inseminated with frozen-thawed semen in September, 2009, about 2 to 3 months earlier than their natural breeding season. Intravaginal progesterone-releasing devices were inserted into vaginas of six Himalayan tahrs on September 7, and the other two on September 8 to suppress luteal function of ovaries. The devices had been placed deep inside the vagina prior to withdrawal on September 23. A day before CIDR removal, a combination of PMSG 400 IU and hCG 200IU was intramuscularly injected. Forty eight hours later, frozen-thawed semen was transcervically inseminated. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed 39 days later by analyzing progesterone level of serum. Every treatment was done under anesthesia inducted by xylazine injection. In conclusion, vaginal discharge of cervical mucus, hormonal changes induced by implant-typed or muscularly injectable hormones and widening of cervix enough to insert an insemination gun into uterine body were achieved in non-breeding season. Moreover, the first inseminated Himalayan tahr, 36 hours after CIDR removal was assumed to be pregnant but the fetus may have been lost due to the use of anesthetic drug.

In this paper, optimal spot weld layout design of the shock tower structure is performed for increasing fatigue life of spot weld and fatigue life of shock tower simultaneously. To predict the fatigue life, linear static analysis is conducted then fatigue analysis is performed by applying random vibration load. To optimize the spot weld layout, design variables that have an effect on spot weld fatigue life are selected. Based on the DOE table, spot weld fatigue analysis is conducted. Finally, response surface model is made from fatigue analysis results and optimized spot weld layout model which increases fatigue life of spot weld and fatigue life of shock tower is determined.
