Cerebral palsy is a static encephalopathy that is caused by multifactorial disorders. Treatment should be approached by a team of physicians from various specialties. But usually the detection of abnormal behavior might be delayed. We used Bayley scales for the patients which were transfered for the evaluation of behavior disorder and tried to detect earlier as cerebral palsy. We recommended selective posterior rhizotomy to the patients who was spastic quadriplegia as early as possible. We evaluated 154 patients with Bayley scale and 85 patients were followed. Among them we applied selective posterior rhizotomy to 25 patients who were spastic quadriplegia. The result was very excellent. We conclueded that Bayley scale is a good tool for evaluation of developmental delay esp. cerebral palsy earlier than usual physical examination and selective posterior rhizotomy is satisfactory treatment method for spastic quadriplegia.

The authors analyzed 147 cases of basal skull fracture which were treated in the Department of Neurosurgery, Chungnam National University Hospital from Janwuy 1989 to December 1992. These fractures are difficult to diagnose by ordinary X-ray examination and are freguently inferred by clinical signs. The clinical features and radiological findings were reviewed. The results of the analysis are summarized as follows 1) The basal skull fractures were more common in men than women-the ratio being 6 1 1. 2) In decreasing order of cause of basal skull fractures were traffic accident~(77%), fall down, assault and slipping. 3) The minor head injury, Glasgow Coma Scale Score(GCS) of 13 to 15, was 79 cases(54%), the moderate head injury 40 cases(27%) and the severe head injury 18 cases(1996). 4) In decreasing order of clinical features were otorrhea(71 I) rhinorrhea(4856) and raccoon eye(33%) etc. 5) In decreasing order of the combined pathologies were skull fracture(55I 1, subdural hema-toma(l7%), epidural hematoma(l6%) and intraerebral hematoma(l2I) etc. 6) The facial nerve, vestibulocochlear nerve and optic nerve were the most commonly injured cranial nerve. 7) CSF leakage was noted in 139 cases and among them immediate type was far more common(%%) than the delayed type. 8) The incidence of meningitis was 5.4% and most of them associated with CSF leakage and the prophylatic antibiotic treatment has no effect to decrease infection rate. 9) In decreasing order of the frequency associated injuries were facial bone fracture (47%), clavicle fracture(19%), lower extremitics fracture(9%) and upper extremcties fracture(7%) etc.

The synthetic scaffolds for bone augmentation fill the cavity, and act as a template for initial cell ingrowth and subsequent tissue formation. The desirable material as a scaffold need resorbable biomimetics, biocompatibility, mechanical stability, and cell viability. Hydroxyapatite is a synthetic calcium phosphate that resembles bone mineral. Its surface is highly reactive and favorable for attachment. Hydroxyapatite has properties such as biocompatibility, non-toxicity, osseoconductivity. And chitosan is one of the biodegradable polymers in nature. Chitosan has non-toxicity, flexibility, anti-bacterial effect, resistance to heat, and biocompatibility. Mixture of hydroxyapatite and chitosan promotes osteoblastic adhesion, migration, differentiation, and proliferation. This mixture were prepared for the function of guided bone regeneration(GBR). This study makes the chitosan/fibroin-hydroxyapatite composite membrane be a prospective biodegradable GBR membrane for future applications.

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>Vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), a critical mediator of tumor angiogenesis, is a well-characterized target of hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1). Murine arrest-defective protein 1A (mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP>) acetylates HIF-1α, triggering its degradation, and thus may play a role in decreased expression of VEGFA.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>We generated Apc<SUP>Min/+</SUP>/mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> transgenic mice and quantified growth of intestinal polyps. Human gastric MKN74 and murine melanoma B16F10 cells overexpressing mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> were injected into mice, and tumor growth and metastasis were measured. VEGFA expression and microvessel density in tumors were assessed using immunohistochemistry. To evaluate the role of mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> acetylation of Lys532 in HIF-1α, we injected B16F10-mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> cell lines stably expressing mutant HIF-1α/K532R into mice and measured metastasis. All statistical tests were two-sided, and <I>P</I> values less than .05 were considered statistically significant.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Apc<SUP>Min/+</SUP>/mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> transgenic mice (n = 25) had statistically significantly fewer intestinal polyps than Apc<SUP>Min/+</SUP> mice (n = 21) (number of intestinal polyps per mouse: Apc<SUP>Min/+</SUP> mice vs Apc<SUP>Min/+</SUP>/mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> transgenic mice, mean = 83.4 vs 38.0 polyps, difference = 45.4 polyps, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 41.8 to 48.6; <I>P</I> < .001). The growth and metastases of transplanted tumors were also statistically significantly reduced in mice injected with mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP>-overexpressing cells than in mice injected with control cells (<I>P</I> < .01). Moreover, overexpression of mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> decreased VEGFA expression and microvessel density in tumor xenografts (<I>P</I> < .04) and Apc<SUP>Min/+</SUP> intestinal polyps (<I>P</I> = .001). Mutation of lysine 532 of HIF-1α in B16F10-mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> cells prevented HIF-1α degradation and inhibited the antimetastatic effect of mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> (<I>P</I> < .001).</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>mARD1A<SUP>225</SUP> may be a novel upstream target that blocks VEGFA expression and tumor-related angiogenesis.</P>

Extensive use of antibiotics has caused the microbial resistance to rise drastically within the last few decades, and new approaches are therefore needed to develop effective antibacterial substances. In this study, we identified peptide in the hemolymph of Hermetia illucens larvae using reverse-phase chromatography, HPLC and Nano-LC-ESI-MS/MS system. We investigated the antibacterial effect of HP/F9 peptides against Klebsiella pneumoniae in vitro and in vivo. The peptide effectively inhibited the growth of K. pneumoniae in vitro and completely removed K. pneumoniae from the lungs of mice. Importantly, peptides (22,000 Da, HP/F9) successfully reduced lung inflammation upon K. pneumoniae infection. These results indicate that the HP/F9 peptide from H. illucens larva can effectively protect the mouse from K. pneumoniae infection. HP/F9 could be a new candidate for the development of effective antibacterial substance.

본 연구는 70톤 급 초대형 중장비에 사용되는 머플러를 실험과 경험 법칙을 통하여 개발하였다. 머플러 내 부의 파티션 플레이트, 천공관 그리고 파이프 구조를 변경하며 투과손실 성능을 비교하고, 실험 결과를 통하여 머플 러의 성능에 영향을 미치는 내부 음향 요소의 최적 조합과 배치를 결정하였다. In this study, a muffler for the super heavy machinery in the 70 ton class is developed. Developing process relies on experimental and rule of thumb approach. Various muffler internal structures consisting of partition plates, perforated and non-perforated through pipes, and absorbent are tried and compared for the transmission loss performance. Based on the experimental results, the best combination and locations of the internal acoustic components which affects the muffler performance are determined.
